Arguez, Three Others Sent Home From US U-20 Camp

Letters From Vagabondia 03 January @ 04:45 AM EDT
Steven Goff and others are reporting that Hertha Berlin's Bryan Arguez and three other unidentified players were sent home from the recent US U-20 camp, reportedly for disciplinary reasons. For Arguez in particular, it confirms a pattern of disciplinary problems which began early in his tenure at Hertha; missing practice and showing up late for practice - unpardonable sins when you are being paid to play. Americans In Action All Over Europe This Weekend

Letters From Vagabondia 20 September @ 01:01 PM EDT
American Jozy Altidore was named to the squad for tonight's match against Primera newcomer Numancia. Given that coach Manuel Pelligrini is without three starters due to injury and is just coming off a midweek Champion's League draw with Manchester United, and Altidore's encouraging debut last week against Deportivo, there is a good chance that Altidore will see more playing time this week. OUR TEAMS

Everton (1-1-0, 10th in Premier League): Home vs. Portsmouth (10 a.m. ET Saturday, Setanta). Who did Portsmouth annoy to get a schedule that starts with Chelsea, Manchester United and Everton? In any case, Everton picked up Ecuadorian midfielder Segundo Castillo on loan from Red Star Belgrade, but the player they're really chasing is Victor Obinna, last seen with Nigeria at the Olympics.

Cherundolo and Hannover Down Hertha 3-1

Letters From Vagabondia 03 August @ 11:24 PM EDT
After a mistake-ridden 4-2 preseason loss to RCD Mallorca last week, Hannover 96 redeemed itself last night with a 3-1 win over fellow Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin. As expected, American Steve Cherundolo went the distance at right back while newcomer Sal Zizzo was not selected for the team.

Among the good news for Hannover was to see newcomer (and former Bayern Munich player) Jan Schlaudraff score goals in the 19th and 68th minutes. Click to continue reading...

Sal Zizzo: Rough Outing For Hannover Against Mallorca

Letters From Vagabondia 01 August @ 06:56 PM EDT
There has been some speculation during the preseason that Hannover veteran Steve Cherundolo may get bumped from his starting right back role by a younger player, including possibly young American Sal Zizzo. After a 4-2 friendly loss to RCD Mallorca Friday night in which coach Dieter Hecking gave Zizzo a start, Cherundolo's job looks as secure as ever. Click to continue reading...

Arguez in Hertha Coach's Doghouse

Letters From Vagabondia 29 July @ 12:22 AM EDT
Accroding to several Berlin news sources, young American defender Bryan Arguez is in Hertha Berlin coach Lucian Favre's doghouse these days after missing two practices in the past few weeks. His most recent was last week when he skipped an afternoon practice to join 200,000 other Berliners (including many other expat Americans) to see Senator Barack Obama speak in front of the Siegesaule. According to several French press reports, AS Monaco boss Jerome de Bontin is still working to bring Benfica's Freddy Adu to his club. Arguez Shows Well in Pre-Season Matches

Letters From Vagabondia 12 July @ 07:31 AM EDT
Hertha Berlin's American midfielder, Bryan Arguez, has had a few growing pains in recent weeks but now looks to be on track. After passing out in a training session two weeks ago (reportedly due to jet lag), the Miami native acquitted himself well in two friendlies last week against Hoeppel Tel Aviv with the latest result being a 0-0 draw. Still waiting on Arguez's transfer...

The DCenters 20 January @ 09:48 PM EDT
I'm hearing that Arguez's transfer is gummed up in MLS Headquarters because their attention through this week was on the draft in Baltimore. Hertha wants him ASAP and expect him to be challenging for first team minutes immediately. Did DCU let him languish on the field, or was he really motivated to impress and jump overseas?
