Will David Beckham and Landon Donovan be celebrating on Sunday? (Getty Images)
This is a game I've gone back and forth with all week. Two western conference squads meeting in
the league final is going to be interesting. Not many had picked both the LA Galaxy and Real Salt
Lake to make it this far back at the start of the season.

FYII will be off Friday and Monday enjoying all that Seattle has to offer. So our good friend Graham
Fox will be filling in. I have no doubt you will like it. His work here in the past has been
fantastic. Have fun everyone, and don't miss MLS Cup.

STARTERSIf last Saturday's USA game at Slovakia was disappointing, then yesterday's game at Denmark was
down right pathetic.

In the first part of our 2009 MLS Cup Final preview, the Real Salt Lake and Los Angeles Galaxy
players were assessed and compared, with a slight advantage being measured for the Galaxy. In this
continuation of our analysis, attention is paid to the coaches and intangibles for both clubs.

It is not just that Real Salt Lake's captain, Kyle Beckerman, has been working on his
dreadlocks longer than the LA Galaxy's David Beckham has been coifed with an under-cut resembling a
mullet with a racing-strip, that leads me to predict RSL as the 2009 MLS Cup winner.
Rather, it is that RSL is peaking at the right time and relishes the underdog role.

Shep seems to think that Bruce Arena's performance this season is proof that the coach RBNY should
hire one that they already fired. He also believes that set pieces win the game and that fly-away
cuffs are the look for fall/winter 2009.

Ladies and gentlemen of America, I don't know you. I don't know what you like or what you
dislike. I have to assume you enjoy things that are fun and exciting. I also have to assume you
hate things that are boring and dull. Thus, I just don't understand why you are not eating up the
2009 MLSÂ Playoffs.

All you who criticized Bruce Arena, said the game had passed him by, said he relied too much on old
veterans...all you who said Dema Kovalenko was a one-dimensional hack...all you who said there was
no way Ricketts or Berhalter would make it through the whole season...all you who said that Beckham
and Donovan couldn't work together.

And those words are: Western Conference Champions!
In another step in the worst-to-first journey that MLS Coach of the Year Bruce
Arena has taken the team on, the Los Angeles Galaxy turned away a stiff challenge from the
Houston Dynamo in 30 minutes of extra time with a 2-0 scoreline.

Wow, wow, wow. What a game!
Like commenter Diane, I LOVE me some AJ Delagarza! Magee was fairly worthless with a horrible
first touch for most of the match. Kirovski was brought in, why? Beckham did very well, but boy he
was soooo tanked in overtime. I really felt for him and the others.

The Western Conference Finals was a long, hard slog between the Los Angeles Galaxy and the
Houston Dynamo. With an 8:30 starting time to accommodate ESPN2's college football schedule, two
blackouts that interrupted play in each half, and a half hour of overtime, the Galaxy did not
trudge off the pitch with their Western Conference trophy until almost midnight.

Tonight starts the conference finals in the 2009 MLS Cup Playoffs. We all know the pairings
going into the conference finals and for the most part we know who the league and ESPN are hoping
to see in the MLS Cup.
We have our favorites and we certainly have our underdog. These next two games will put either a
really high profile match in MLS Cup 2009 or one that sees a couple of western conference clubs
battling it out like last year's two eastern conference teams did in LA.

The Major League Soccer season heads down the final turn this weekend, and with just three games
remaining, the stakes are high. Friday night at the Home Depot Center, the Los Angeles Galaxy host
the Houston Dynamo with a trip to Seattle and a spot in the MLS Cup final on the line.
It's a tale of two clubs over the past four-five seasons: one has been a proven winner, and is
in search of their third cup in the past four years.

Galaxy central defender Omar Gonzalez, the club's top draft pick out of Maryland didn't miss a
game for the Galaxy this year and was literally head and shoulders above other candidates.

You may have recently read that Bruce Arena received the award for Coach of the Year for rescuing
the LA Galaxy from the depths of the last few seasons all the way to the Western Conference final.
The most high-profile part of his salvage job was the healing of the San Andreas Fault-sized rift
between Lando & Becks.

Los Angeles Galaxy's Bruce Arena was named the 2008 Major League Soccer coach of the year
Wednesday, after guiding the club to its first playoff berth since 2005.
That line does not do justice to the job that Arena did for the Galaxy this year. Last season
the Galaxy finished bottom of the Western Conference after conceding a league-high 62 goals.

While newly-minted MLS coach of the year Bruce Arena has assembled an LA Galaxy team largely from
scratch (outside of its two superstars of course) the squad they host in the Western Conference
final tomorrow night counts on a core of players that has played together for years. "You kind of
know when you need to step it up and raise your game," said
Brian Ching said.

No a real shocker for most folks out there, Major League Soccer has announced the 2009 Coach of
the Year is LA Galaxy front man Bruce Arena.
The turnaround in LA this year has been nothing short of remarkable. Arena found a way to get
everything on board with stars like Landon Donovan and David Beckham by plugging in solid veterans
