If you think modern-day tackles by the likes of Nigel de Jong and Ryan Shawcross are horrible,
take a look at the above video from a 1970 Manchester derby where United legend George Best comes
late to a ball and fiercely tackles City's Glyn Pardoe. The result was a horrific broken leg for
Pardoe, a double fracture in fact, and the referee didn't even immediately stop the play to award a
foul or red card.

The final score, a 1-0 road victory for the Seattle Sounders Friday night, hardly mattered in
the grand scheme of things.
Steve Zakuani, one of the up-and-coming talents in MLS known for his ability to make things
happen on offense with blazing speed on the wing, suffered what looked to be a broken leg or ankle
in the third minute of Seattle's match against the Colorado Rapids.
Colorado midfielder Brian Mullan's reckless tackle of Seattle winger Steve Zakuani was the talk
of the weekend in MLS, with Zakuani sidelined with a broken leg and Mullan facing a stiff
suspension.
There has been plenty of talk about what sort of punishment Mullan should receive. Some believe
it should only merit the usual suspension for a red card, while plenty feel a harsh punishment
(some believing a season-long suspension) is justified.
Liverpool's need for a left back is inching them closer to proposing a loan move for Manchester
City defender Wayne Bridge.
The Reds are short of options in that part of the field having seen Emiliano Insua, Paul Konchesky,
Fabio Aurelio and Glen Johnson all turn out in that position to differing levels of success over
the past two years.
After losing to Monterrey at home in the final leg of the CONCACAF Champion's League Final on
April 27 Real Salt Lake has not looked like the same team that was considered to be the class of
MLS by many observers at the beginning of the season, myself included. A bit of a let down could be
expected after the loss to Monterrey and it did come in the form of a 1-0 loss to the Portland
Timbers on the road.
I'm working on a U.S.-Mexico piece for SI.com; I will file it first thing Tuesday and it should
be up shortly afterward.
Meanwhile, a quick word about something that happened in Kansas City over the weekend:
Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes is hopping mad about a red card shown to Omar Bravo.
LONDON, England Arsenal succeeded where Manchester United failed days earlier to become only the
second team to win at St Andrew's in 30 games with a 3-0 victory over Birmingham City on Saturday.
Their success saw Arsenal stay within two points of both Premier League leaders Manchester United,
top on goal difference, and Manchester [.
Diouf's is up to his usual antics again. If he's not strutting the streets of Manchester
pretending to be 50 cent, then he's on the football pitch pretending to be a good
footballer...
"For many years I have thought he was the gutter type I was going to call him a sewer rat but that
might be insulting to sewer rats.
Seattle Sounders star Steve Zakuani looks set to miss the rest of the 2011 season after
suffering a horrific broken leg early in Friday's Colorado-Seattle match.
Rapids midfielder Brian Mullan broke Zakuani's leg when he raced in on a reckless challenge just
seconds after being involved in a sequence where he felt he was fouled.

Where oh where has Oguchi gone? Onyewu has not been playing at all lately for his club Twente, and

The relationship between player and manager just wasn't what it used to beLuka Modric was signed by
Spurs for a club record fee and brought all the way from the quiet Eastern European divisions to
arguably the biggest league and stage in the world. To say that Spurs had taken something of a
gamble, spending so much money on a talented but unproven player, is an understatement.
Can Wilshere and Ramsey replace Fabregas and Nasri? - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Stats show that youngsters Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey are ready to fill the
creative void in Arsenal's midfield left by the departures of Cesc Fabregas and
(soon-to-be-confirmed) Samir Nasri.

All is not well in London — more specifically, at Arsenal.
The club confirmed today that long-time regular right back Bacary Sagna suffered a broken leg in
Arsenal's 1-2 defeat at the hands of Tottenham in the North London derby on Sunday.
The injury-curse blighting Arsenal's season struck again on Monday when goalkeeper Wojciech
Szczesny pulled out of the Poland squad for two upcoming friendlies against South Korea and
Belarus with a bad back.
Szczesny, 21, who has played six time for Poland, was due to meet up with his international team
mates this week but the official Polish FA website (www.
Ireland and Leicester left-back Greg Cunningham, on loan from Manchester City, suffered a broken
leg after in his side's 1-0 victory over Hull City this Saturday.
Galway born Cunningham suffered the break as a result of Liam Rosenior's late tackle on 62 minutes,
which earnt him a red card.
Newcaslte United have completed the signing of former Marsellie player Hatem Ben Arfa

The former Newcastle loanee is currently nursing a broken leg which happened against
Manchester City in September. As a result he has only played four games since joining the club,
but this was all that was needed to impress the manager.

Wigan 2 Arsenal 2
Birmingham 0 Arsenal 3
Work, a busy life, and actually having to travel too and from two away games prevented me from
having a chance to write about either of these games in any depth until now.
A couple of points I would make nonetheless about the Wigan match:
- In a sense, we were lucky to play Wigan before Birmingham.

QPR striker Jamie Mackie has admonished the behaviour of 'repulsive' Blackburn
winger El-Hadji Diouf after the Blackburn winger apparently goaded the stricken
striker as he lay prostrate on the turf having just suffered a broken leg (a double
fracture, no less) when the two sides met in the FA Cup on Saturday.
By Tony Alvarez
Following many sections of the media reporting that the FA are going to look into the
allegations made by QPR about comments made by Diouf to Jamie Mackie whilst he lay on the floor
with a broken leg. We look into Diouf's behaviour and ask the question, how much longer will people
put up with him?
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is wanted by Premier League newcomers Blackpool who want the
Welshman on loan for the rest of the season, it has been revealed.
Ramsey, 20, has only recently returned from a loan spell at Nottingham Forest where he was sent
by Arsène Wenger to complete his recovery from the broken leg he suffered against Stoke City in
February of last year.

You just wouldn't let it lie, would you?
The ongoing tiff between Blackburn mongrel El-Hadji Diouf and everyone
on the staff at Queens Park Rangers is showing no signs of abating any time soon, after the
Senegalese forward responded to Neil Warnock's 'sewer rat' taunts by calling the
R's manager a non-entity.
Championship side Cardiff City have signed Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey on a one month loan
deal, the Bluebirds have confirmed.
Ramsey, who rose through the Cardiff City academy from the age of eight, moved to the Emirates
after starring in his first full season as a professional in 2008.
Craig Burley reacts to Rangers' signing of El Hadji Diouf with a reasoned treatise on the power of
forgiveness and moving soliloquy about avoiding the temptation to pre-judge people based on their
past mistakes.
Well, no. He doesn't.
Rather Craig gets out his crampons and heads straight for the highest peak on the moral high
ground.
When it was announced that Venky's, an indian company specializing in chicken processing, had
bought Blackburn, numerous atrocious puns about ‘falling fowl' began circulating. When one of the
club's new owners claimed to have never seen a football game, many began to speculate that
Blackburn could be in serious trouble.

Just a quickie to let y'all know that, after six months out with a broken leg, Bobby Zamora made
his Fulham comeback last night and marked his return with a goal in a reserve team match against
his former side Brighton.
Zamora is now due to return to first-team action in around three weeks' time, after shattering
his fibula against Wolves back in September of last year.

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Roma from the Donbass Arena, Donetsk (Shakhtar lead 3-2 on
agg.)
The Ukrainian hosts are up for this one, and are ready to fight according to manager Mircea
Lucescu. The 3-2 win in the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico was a massive result, giving Lucescu's
side three away goals and one foot in the quarter finals.
What started as a grassroots idea for a Steve Zakuani tribute has apparently reached the ears of
ownership. Drew Carey, one of the team's minority owners, recently made this comment on
twitter:
#11 cards for next #Sounders game in honor of Zakuani and his broken leg have been
requested.
Just a day after Seattle Sounders star Steve Zakuani was lost for the season with a broken leg,
reigning MLS MVP David Ferreira joined the list of severely injured stars, suffering a broken ankle
in FC Dallas' 2-1 win vs. Vancouver on Saturday.
Ferreira suffered the broken ankle on a challenge from Vancouver defender Jonathan Leathers.
The hard knocks and misfortune continues for the Seattle Sounders. Steve Zakuani is still in a
hospital in Colorado recovering from a broken leg and may not make it back to Seattle for the
planned tribute for him on Saturday (although I'm sure he'll catch some of the love on the T.V. or
internet).
On the weekend Steve Zakuani's and David Ferreira's legs were snapped (as was former Crew player
Duncan Oughton's last Wednesday). Steve's was sickening - I didn't see David's or Duncan's. For the
first, I'm going to stick with my non-answers after the game:
(Did you see the play?

There have been a number of high profile injuries in the football world in recent years. Some
have been career threatening and some sadly career ending. It seems that Arsenal have suffered more
than their fair share of injuries in recent years and their manager Arsene Wenger isn't reluctant
to keep mentioning this fact.
Aaron Ramsey is looking forward to being captain of his country again tomorrow when Wales take on
Northern Ireland, and he thinks that his progress from being on a hospital bed with a broken leg at

clashes between the two teams.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew dismisses 'whispers' alleging that Ben Arfa will never be the
same player after his broken leg. Apparently there have been 'whispers' that Hatem Ben Arfa will
never properly recover from the double leg break inflicted upon him by Nigel de Jong. All I can say
is that they must have [.
"More Than a Club" is the slogan for Barcelona FC.
Since its founding, Barcelona has been on a road of self-discovery. Some time along the way, the
people of Catalonia started to envisage Barcelona as a symbol of their country—more than a
club.
To some, especially in times of oppression under Fransisco Franco's long dictatorship in Spain,
Barcelona FC was envisaged as the club who expressed the rights and freedom of the Catalonian
people.
After yet another successful season at Broadhall Way, here are FC Boro's End of Season awards.
It was a much easier season than last to pick the winners. Take a look and comment below.
