In an interview with ESPN's Jeremy Schaap on SportsCenter, United States National Team forward
Charlie Davies says he expects to "make a full recovery" from injuries suffered in a single-car
accident on October 13th. Davies was a passenger in the vehicle. A fellow passenger was killed.
Davies is rehabbing a broken leg along with a broken elbow and facial fractures.
The summer transfer window is coming to a close, and there looks to be a flurry of activity
still yet to come before the window shuts.
There are still quite a few deals that are up in the air with the deadline approaching, and
you've got to be on the lookout for at least a couple of surprises and some nutty speculation from
here, there, and everywhere as the hours tick down.
This is one of the most distressing posts that I've had to write on this site. I'm sure you all
know the news by now that US national team striker Charlie Davies was a passenger in a SUV that was
in a horrific one-car accident this morning on the George Washington Memorial Parkway just outside
of Washington DC.
Not as easy a game as many would have you believe.

The two protagonists of the last meeting between these clubs Arsenal's Eduardo and
Birmingham defender Martin Taylor both miss out through injury.
Wenger considers raiding his arch-rivals!
The Rumour
ARSENAL are planning a £7million swoop for Chelsea's Salomon Kalou.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sees the 23-year-old young African Player of the Year as the ideal
replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor, following his £25million move to Manchester City.
By now you probably have heard that USMNT forward Charlie Davies, 23, was seriously injured in a
fatal car accident early Tuesday morning.
Certainly the image of the vehicle above would make anyone sick to their stomach.
One other passenger died in the one-car crash. Davies suffered a broken leg, fractured elbow and
facial fractures among other injuries -- it could take him 6-12 months to recover.
Jermaine Jones' recovery from a broken leg suffered in the summer is steadily progressing, however
his club Schalke 04 is setting no firm date for his expected return.
Just when you thought Jermaine Jones' recovery from multiple surgeries to heal a broken leg, now
come words that problems with his rehab have reportedly led to a falling out with Schalke 04
manager Felix Magath.
According to German publication Bild, Jones expressed his unhappiness with Schalke's plan for
his rehabilitation, stating he needs to rest more so as not to have another setback.
In what sounded like a wild and wooly second half, Christine Latham and Kristin Luckinbill were
major contributers in a decisive 3-1 win for the Boston Breakers.
The Breakers scored first, on a PK by Kelly Smith in the 54th minute after Scurry fouled Hucles
in the box. Lori Lindsey equalized soon after, and Abby had a chance to give the Freedom their
first lead of the new season on a second PK (after a handball).
The biggest transfer-related news of the day might actually be something that's not related to
an actual transfer.
With Arsenal star Samir Nasri being ruled out for an extended period of time
due to a broken leg suffered in training today, we could see Arsenal become a lot more active in
the market in the coming weeks before the season gets underway.
Arsenal are perennial fantasy favorites - one of the best teams in the league with a well-earned
reputation for stylish, attacking football. Certainly that hasn't changed this season. But what
perhaps has changed is their value to fantasy managers. In attack there are any number of
combinations for the six advanced roles, be they in the traditional 4-4-2, or Wenger's new 4-3-3.
I'm being completely serious when I say don't even watch this. It's truly horrifying and will
probably make you cry.
Anderlecht's Axel Witsel earned a much deserved red card for snapping the leg of Standard
Liege's Marcin Wasilewski and basically ruining his life on Sunday. The expression of sheer terror
and shock as Wasilewski's face as he looks down at his crazy straw leg is something that will
molest your nightmares for days.
It is being reported by
Corriere di Livorno that American midfielder Ricardo Clark could
finalize a move to Livorno in the coming days. According to the article, a transfer fee has been
agreed upon by the two sides. All that remains is for Clark and his new club to agree upon a
contract.
Clark's strong showing at last month's Confederations Cup really opened some eyes, as transfer
rumors began to swirl around the Houston Dynamo stalwart.
Redknapp moves nearer to midfield capture.
Sky Sports Sources understand Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Portsmouth star
Niko Kranjcar.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has lined up a move for Kranjcar as a replacement for injured Croatian
compatriot Luka Modric.
Well, Luka Modric suffered a broken leg in Spurs' 2-1 win over Birmingham Saturday on a
challenge where he was the one credited with a foul and Eduardo, of course, also had a horrible
injury against Birmingham way back in February 2008. So, you know, the English especially that
Birmingham hit squad are obviously out to systematically destroy all Croatians.
Well, it looks as if Lee Bowyer has upset the Croatian Football Association. Following Bowyer's
tackle on Luka Modric during the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Birmingham City on Saturday,
which resulted in a broken leg for the Croatian international, the president of Hrvatski Nogometni
Savez (the Croatian Football Federation), Vlatko Markovic, has concluded that there is a conspiracy
amongst English clubs to injure Croatian players.
Samir Nasri would make his come back away at West Ham this weekend. The 22-year-old midfielder has
been in the sidelines for three months due to a broken leg that he suffered during pre-season
training.
Both Nasri and Fabianski were played for the reserves on Tuesday which they drew 2-2 against
Wolves.

Morning all,
it's not football we start with this morning but boardroom goings-on. Yesterday Stan Kroenke
purchased shares from the Carr family to bring his stake to the club to 28.3%, making him the
largest shareholder ahead of the porcine Uzbeki tubster.
What's interesting is that last month, when Kroenke purchased shares from Danny Fiszman, it
brought his stake to 20.
We don't know how much PT they will get on Monday, but props to the four collegiate players that
U.S. head coach Pia Sundhage has called in four this event, all of whom have represented the USA at
a FIFA youth Women's World Cup. The players have just 17 caps between them, but 16 of those belong
to Lauren Cheney, one of the top forwards in the country at UCLA and a member of the gold
medal-winning 2008 Olympic Team.
Most of the big European leagues are done, but the summer leagues around the world are going
strong, and that includes leagues with a few former Wizards in them.

Broken leg vs. Chinese National Team
So happy Bastille Day to all of the my french readers.
The U.S. team got out of the hotel for a nice dinner tonight in downtown Charleston, one of the
most picturesque and historic small towns in America. The excursion gave the U.S. players a chance
to get out of their soccer clothes and stretch their legs before getting some well-deserved rest on
a travel day.
Two weeks from ground zero. This is not great.
Massimo Murdocca (broken leg)
Charlie Miller (groin)
Danny "I was going to retire but got talked out of it' Tiatto (back and hamstring)
Michael Zullo (shoulder)

We have big injury troubles ahead of our first competetive game this weekend versus Everton. The
list is:
Tomas Rosicky (hamstring) and Samir Nasri (broken leg) were already sidelined before the
manager spoke to Arsenal TV Online on Thursday afternoon. However, in that interview, the Frenchman
ruled out Theo Walcott (back), Johan Djourou (knee) and Lukasz Fabianski (knee) from the trip to
Goodison Park, while Abou Diaby (groin) is classed as a doubt.
Two weeks into the 2009-2010 season, Arsenal are playing fantastic football and getting supporters
excited.
In the Premier League, two wins from two games, 10 goals scored and the team is performing at a
high level. The new 433 formation is getting rave review from all quarters, particularly from the
fans who are treated to beautiful football all over the pitch.
Table toppers take on newly promoted Brum.
Tottenham came through their Carling Cup match with Doncaster without any new injury
worries.
But Benoit Assou-Ekotto will undergo a late fitness test on a ankle knock picked up against West
Ham last Sunday.
Birmingham's Kevin Phillips (back) and Keith Fahey (bereavement) return to the squad after
missing the midweek Carling Cup win over Southampton.
Time for Harry to raid Fratton Park again?
Even though Portsmouth have now successfully been taken over by Sulaiman Al-Fahim it seems that
the club may still see a few faces leave the club and one of those faces may well be Niko Kranjcar
if the Croatian international decides that the club is unlikely to prosper after selling off the
heart of the team in the past year.
Tottenham's midfielder Luka Modric will be out for at least six weeks after suffering a broken leg
in yesterday's win over Birmingham. The news means that the Croatia international will miss the
World Cup qualifier against England on 9 September.
Croatia have qualified for three successive World Cups since Independence, reaching the Semi Final
in 1998. It's a remarkable record for a nation of 4 Million. It could be about to end.
Croatia may have been resurgent under Slaven Bilić, qualifying emphatically for the EURO 2008
tournament, pimping McClaren's England along the way, but 2007-8 was a long time ago.
No love lost!
Chelsea's Joe Cole will not be involved as boss Carlo Ancelotti is saving him for the
Carling Cup match with QPR.
Didier Drogba and Jose Bowsingwa will both return to the side after their Champions League
suspensions.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has a dilemma in goal as he has to decide between fit again
Heurelho Gomes or current number one Carlo Cudicini.

Arsenal striker Eduardo's season over due to fresh injury

A freak collision with Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand has ended the luckless Arsenal striker
Eduardo's season a matter of weeks after making his return from a year out of the game with a
broken leg.
We've got a nice treat to wrap up the holiday weekend. The US Women are playing Canada on Monday
at 6:00 pm in a friendly that will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel. This match will be the
first of a three-game summer series with Canada as the USA will also face its northern neighbor on
July 19 in Rochester, N.
It would be like another signing if Arsenal can get Eduardo back to fitness before next season. The
goal-poaching Croatia international finished the season with a groin injury and still was having
lingering effects from his broken leg suffered a...
It wasn't always pretty and it wasn't without its cost, but the Aztex got the win last night over
the El Paso Patriots. They've advanced to the 3rd round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and will
face the Houston Dynamo, here in Austin at Nelson Field, on July 1.
(Regarding that date: the date original announced for the 3rd round was June 30.
Givet signs for Blackburn - Not terribly exciting. He was a reasonable pick up late last season
when he was dirt cheap and Rovers had some favorable match-ups. But because of that, his price
jumped. And remember, Rovers kept maybe two or three clean sheets all season.
Coyle hoping Mears chooses Burnley - Mears could be a nice buy at defender.
More former Wizards are involved in more US Open Cup games tonight, so there will be an update to

Here's your weekly update on former Wizards around the world. One former Wizard was competing in
the Gold Cup this week, as Shavar Thomas appeared for Jamaica in the Gold Cup against El Salvador.
There will be an update to this with stats for tonight's SuperLiga game, Rochester's USL game
tonight and a few PDL games.
