If you happen to notice a sense of relief coming from ESPN in the last few days, there is a reason
for it. It's because, while they are not coming in World Cup numbers, viewers are tuning in
to the network's broadcasts of Euro 2008. ESPN announced today that, for the 15 Euro 2008 matches

This comes to us via our mailbag:
" I've never written ya'll before but i thought this was pretty big news so I thought it would
be useful for your website. It was shown by a Mexican News Show (show to be named after i find out
which one it was) that broadcasts here in Houston that, Oscar De La Hoya has shown interest and is
going to stop at nothing to bring Jared borgetti to the big orange machine.
Lots of stuff going on tonight, watching the Houston-New England MLS match along with the
Portland-Silverbacks match on USL Live.
Thoughts:
- New England has been pretty impressive, even without their missing stars. The more I see this
Dube kid, the more I like him.
- Tony Caig is possibly the worst goalkeeper in MLS.
Watching the game between Chicago fire at CD Chivas USA, last night, we were struck by what seemed
like yet another increase in the production value of the broadcast. From the pre-game show to the
slightly higher field of view and the sideline camera angles, everything just looked much better
than at the start of the season.
So, after having over 1 million viewers tune in for the UEFA Champions League Final last month, how is ESPN doing with the early broadcasts for Euro 2008? The answer is not as well as the final, but fairly decent overall. According to the Associated Press, these were the numbers for each game broadcast over [.
Yle started their Veikkausliiga broadcasts today as FF Jaro played FC Lahti. The system in Finland
is quite interesting: Urheilukanava broadcast the games from April to September, and Yle are only
interested when the title is about to be won. The move from Urheilukanava to Yle may raise the
number of people watching, as Urheilukanava is [.
*For those of you who watched last night's US-Mexico match, you just witnessed a star being
born.
Thrown into the wolf den known as the fiercest rivalry in North America, the much-heralded Jozy
Altidore shined. Even without the deft header he scored to put the States up 2-1, the 18-year-old
looked like a man amongst boys many times.
Much more going on today than the Euro 2008 broadcasts, which we hope will perk up now that the Dutch side has reminded us that the object of the game is to put the round spheroid in that big net at the other end of the field.
- Explaining transfers (esp. McBride's): MLS has issued a clarification to its 2008 media guide on the transfer window.
As promised, in MLSR's effort to help in the task of giving our country's oldest knockout competition and out National Cup some exposure we are providing the following links to watch or listen to tonight's games. Some are carried on Video others on Radio or Online Audio. We are hoping to provide a centralized "one-stop" to listen or watch tonight's 94th US Open Cup First Round.
So I decide that I need a footie fix on Saturday night. I proceed to invoke the power of MLSlive.tv
to drop in on the Red Bulls-Revs match, when what to my wondering ears should appear, but some
halftime bimbette on MSG (read as: Red Bulls TV) narrating the highlights of the United-Crew match.
Almost immediately, she pulls off a Christian Miles-esque "Nahm-off", and follows it up
with a
As a football-loving American, I've often gone to great lengths to see broadcasts of live
matches. Justin.tv, Sopcast, various dodgy looking sites from China- I've scoured them all
for English-speaking footy commentary at one time or another. Though the Euro2008
matches are shown on ESPN, I would rather listen to vigorous elephant-on-pig action than hear [.
Only three USL Second Division teams remain in the US Lamar Hunt Open Cup race as we head in to the
third round. Joining the fray are the eight MLS teams who qualified through MLS' play in
tournament.
Matches across the United States will take place Tuesday night, July 1st to determine who advances
to the quarterfinals the following week.
