Google and Apple may not exactly be the first names that spring to mind when looking for
alternatives to challenge Sky's dominance of sports broadcasting in Britain, but it should be no
surprise that two of the giants of the tech and online world are eyeing up sport as a way to lure
consumers into their new offerings.
No holds barred: Retiring Houston defender Eddie Robinson is one of a kind
Former Dynamo broadcaster Jonathan Yardley offers an excellent retrospective on the career of
Eddie Robinson. Definitely worth your time.
Now THAT'S a SuperDraft!Wow that's a lot of punnage in one title. With reason
though, as something is definitely going on behind the scenes which will help explain Toronto FC's
two First Round draft picks at the MLS SuperDraft. (Don't you just hate those non-Super Drafts? So
boring.) With their braintrust gathered in Kansas City, TFC did their best to confound those who do
mock drafts.
39-year-old Rogério Ceni gets ready for another Paulista for São Paulo FC
The São Paulo state league gets underway on Saturday and here are the games we'll be covering
up to round 7.
This year, we'll also be transmitting live midweek games but commentary will be provided by your

Where's Waldo? The question should instead be, Where isn't he?
Former US international and current Fox Soccer broadcaster Eric Wynalda may be called many
things, but one of them is definitely not "shrinking violet." Wynalda, at the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
"The BBC's governing principles, closely associated with its first Director-General, Sir John
Reith, are to educate, inform and entertain the whole nation, free from political interference and
commercial pressure. These ideals continue to underpin an enduring vision of the BBC as the
"national" broadcaster.
Without a "Group of Death," and without 5 of the top 8 ranked African countries (Egypt, Algeria,
Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa all failed to qualify), the opening stages of the African Cup of
Nations lacks a bit in the tasty fixtures department. For perspective, Tunisia, the participating
country with the fourth-highest FIFA ranking is still behind tiny Cape Verde Islands (who also did
not qualify).
Former New England Revolution star Clint Dempsey could be changing teams before England's
January transfer window comes to a close at 6PM ET on Tuesday. The current Fulham FC midfielder has
been lighting it up in the Barclays Premier League with 15 goals through all competitions and could
see a dream move to one of the top clubs in the league before Tuesday's deadline.
This certainly isn't going to go down that well with the FA.
England manager Fabio Capello laid out his thoughts on John Terry and the FA's decision to strip
him of the England captaincy to Italian broadcaster Rai 1 today. To say he's not pleased
with what has transpired would be a gross understatement.
Fabio Capello is furious at the English FA for firing his captain John Terry, and you have to
begin to wonder whether Capello will still be in charge of England when this summer's Euro 2012
rolls around.
Capello was interviewed by national Italian broadcaster Rai 1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
afternoon, where he attended Chelsea's 3-3 draw with Manchester United, and he stated openly how
angry he was.
Bob Bradley has always been a tremendous example for his players and leader as a soccer coach. Now,
in the wake of a terrible tragedy, he is asked to do the same for a nation.
Bradley insisted Monday that he is "totally committed" to coaching Egypt's national soccer team
despite the turmoil in the country following the riot at a game last week that left more than 70
dead.
One of the disadvantages of working a paying job whilst trying to build a readership on your own
blog is that sometimes we get blindsided by events that need immediate reporting such as we saw
today in London as England manager Fabio Capello resigned his position immediately following a
meeting with FA Chairman David Bernstein.
Many have complained about the low sales numbers for Wednesday night's match between Seattle
Sounders FC and Santos Laguna. The first leg match in the knockout stages is already above 16,000
sold (a great number for most MLS sides), but most Sounders fans want to see more people. Here at
Sounder at Heart we want to help that number grow as well.
Good to see that the season is underway and that we're headed down to Mexico with a 2-1 lead
going into the second leg. It was a great performance against a team that's in mid-season form.
Don't forget the Santos Away Viewing Party, not to mention it will be the unveiling of the 2012
Sounder At Heart Scarf (can't wait to get mine though I'll be waiting for the mail man).
After a week off, Pitch Pass is back with a fresh episode featuring Sporting Kansas City play by
play man, Callum Williams. Cal gives us some insight on what it's like for an English broadcaster
calling MLS matches, what to expect from Soony Saad, and the bright outlook for SKC.
Then, Houston Dynamo CB Geoff Cameron calls in to discuss Geoff's with a G, his transition to
CB, and his hairstyles.
A refusal by Spanish television stations to bid at current rates for rights to broadcast next
season's top league Spanish soccer matches creates an opportunity for Al Jazeera to push into
Europe and become the world's premier global broadcaster, says writer James Dorsey.

The viewership numbers are in for a few of mid-week clashes from across the pond and the numbers
are quite impressive. From the AP (via Cnnsi.com, "Both Champions League semifinals and the
Manchester derby for first place in the Premier League averaged more 1 million television viewers

The Match According to Kelyn Rowe

that did not stop him from giving us his play by play throughout! See future broadcaster Kelyn
Rowe's reactions.
