Liverpool stalwart Jamie Carragher will join Sky Sports from the start of next season. The veteran defender had previously announced that he would retire at the end of the current campaign, although the rumour mill had suggested he was thinking of performing a U-turn and staying on for one more season.
Anglo-Scottish 'Battle of Britain' European nights can be full-blooded affairs, but it's not
usually the cameraman who bear the brunt. That was the case in last night's clash between Hearts
and Liverpool, where the Reds' young winger Raheem Sterling lunged in on a hapless pitchside
broadcaster. The camerman was visibly shaken by the foul.

Fabio Capello is furious at the English FA for firing his captain John Terry, and you have to
begin to wonder whether Capello will still be in charge of England when this summer's Euro 2012
rolls around.
Capello was interviewed by national Italian broadcaster Rai 1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
afternoon, where he attended Chelsea's 3-3 draw with Manchester United, and he stated openly how
angry he was.

At long last we know for sure that next Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup final between the Seattle
Sounders and Sporting Kansas City will be nationally televised. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean it
will be available to everyone. In a bit of a surprise, GolTV has won the right to broadcast the
Open Cup final.
Good to see that the season is underway and that we're headed down to Mexico with a 2-1 lead
going into the second leg. It was a great performance against a team that's in mid-season form.
Don't forget the Santos Away Viewing Party, not to mention it will be the unveiling of the 2012
Sounder At Heart Scarf (can't wait to get mine though I'll be waiting for the mail man).
Many have complained about the low sales numbers for Wednesday night's match between Seattle
Sounders FC and Santos Laguna. The first leg match in the knockout stages is already above 16,000
sold (a great number for most MLS sides), but most Sounders fans want to see more people. Here at
Sounder at Heart we want to help that number grow as well.
The U.S. squandered a first half lead in their second 2014 World Cup qualifier against Guatemala
to continue an unimpressive run of form. Clint Dempsey scored in the 40th minute to give the U.S. a
1-0 lead that they would hold in spite of physical play and dodgy ref decisions all the way up to
the 83rd minute when the Chicago Fire's Marco Pappa pinned a beauty of a free kick to the top of
the net.
Clarification on why tonight's USMNT game is on pay-per-view
"Who owns the rights to World Cup qualifying matches?
The worldwide television rights to each World Cup Qualifying match are initially the property of
the hosting country. The host Federation, who often works with a third-party to commercialize these
television rights, is the rights holder and can distribute the broadcast in various countries at
its sole discretion.
Broadcaster Joe Tolleson talks about the USA National Team and previews the upcoming Guatemala
match. Joe will be broadcasting the match with Shaka Hislop which can be seen on PPV/In Demand
(check your local provider) as well as on Ustream.TV here.

The Premier League's £2bn-plus auction of live UK television rights has gone to a second round
with sources indicating a new bidder, thought to be al-Jazeera, has entered the fray against
incumbents BSkyB and ESPN.
This article titled "BSkyB and ESPN lead field for Premier League auction of live UK TV rights"
was written by Mark Sweney, for guardian.co.uk on Thursday 7th June 2012 12.53 UTC
The Premier League's £2bn-plus auction of live UK television rights draws to a close on Friday,
with a field of potential bidders including al-Jazeera, Google and Channel 4 understood to have
dramatically thinned.
While on Twitter a few weeks ago, a topic regarding the status of Major League Soccer, compared
to other professional leagues around the world, as a 'retirement league' or lower-level league
sparked a heated debate that I could not stop thinking about.
New England Revolution great and current ESPN soccer analyst Taylor Twellman was at the center
of this debate, which began when Alessandro Nesta spoke about his reasons for leaving AC Milan at
the end of the season.
The viewership numbers are in for a few of mid-week clashes from across the pond and the numbers
are quite impressive. From the AP (via Cnnsi.com, "Both Champions League semifinals and the
Manchester derby for first place in the Premier League averaged more 1 million television viewers

Former New England Revolution star Clint Dempsey could be changing teams before England's
January transfer window comes to a close at 6PM ET on Tuesday. The current Fulham FC midfielder has
been lighting it up in the Barclays Premier League with 15 goals through all competitions and could
see a dream move to one of the top clubs in the league before Tuesday's deadline.
Google and Apple may not exactly be the first names that spring to mind when looking for
alternatives to challenge Sky's dominance of sports broadcasting in Britain, but it should be no
surprise that two of the giants of the tech and online world are eyeing up sport as a way to lure
consumers into their new offerings.
Arlo White, broadcaster for the NBC Sports Network, talks about the USA National Team, Major
League Soccer, and England's chances at Euro 2012. You can follow Arlo on twitter @ArloWhite.

One of the disadvantages of working a paying job whilst trying to build a readership on your own
blog is that sometimes we get blindsided by events that need immediate reporting such as we saw
today in London as England manager Fabio Capello resigned his position immediately following a
meeting with FA Chairman David Bernstein.
This certainly isn't going to go down that well with the FA.
England manager Fabio Capello laid out his thoughts on John Terry and the FA's decision to strip
him of the England captaincy to Italian broadcaster Rai 1 today. To say he's not pleased
with what has transpired would be a gross understatement.
Rookie Kelyn Rowe did not dress for Wednesday night's match against the Colorado Rapids, but
that did not stop him from giving us his play by play throughout! See future broadcaster Kelyn
Rowe's reactions.
After a week off, Pitch Pass is back with a fresh episode featuring Sporting Kansas City play by
play man, Callum Williams. Cal gives us some insight on what it's like for an English broadcaster
calling MLS matches, what to expect from Soony Saad, and the bright outlook for SKC.
Then, Houston Dynamo CB Geoff Cameron calls in to discuss Geoff's with a G, his transition to
CB, and his hairstyles.
Bob Bradley has always been a tremendous example for his players and leader as a soccer coach. Now,
in the wake of a terrible tragedy, he is asked to do the same for a nation.
Bradley insisted Monday that he is "totally committed" to coaching Egypt's national soccer team
despite the turmoil in the country following the riot at a game last week that left more than 70
dead.
Without a "Group of Death," and without 5 of the top 8 ranked African countries (Egypt, Algeria,
Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa all failed to qualify), the opening stages of the African Cup of
Nations lacks a bit in the tasty fixtures department. For perspective, Tunisia, the participating
country with the fourth-highest FIFA ranking is still behind tiny Cape Verde Islands (who also did
not qualify).

Bo Hansson, a veteran Swedish sports commentator broke the cardinal rule of the casually racist broadcaster he forget to check if the microphone was still on when he decided to go all Big Ron on us.
Referring to some of the players on show during AIK's clash with Gefle, Hansson was heard muttering the word 'darkies' by eagle-eared listeners to the Sveriges Radio programme.
Drew Moor hasn't played for FC Dallas for almost three years now after the Dallas native was
traded to Colorado in Sept. 2009 for current FCD captain Ugo Ihemelu. But before being shipped to
the Rapids, he had nearly four good seasons with Dallas. One of his teammates during that span was
Bobby Rhine, the former FCD player turned broadcaster and front office employee who left us way too
early last September.
As the Supercopa de Espana draws near and Spanish bakeries sell their finest "fingers of Mou,"
Jose Mourinho himself has publicly acknowledged that, yeah, jabbing Tito Vilanova in the eyeball
during the scuffle that followed last year's Super Cup win for Barca was poor form. Obviously.
Though Mourinho and the newly promoted Vilanova shook hands and made up long ago and their bans
have been lifted as part of a general amnesty from the Spanish football federation, Jose finally
decided to admit that the incident was his bad.
Super slo-mo has been a great addition to the football broadcaster's arsenal in recent seasons.
Usually it's been deployed to give us a good look at some superb skills. But in this new adidas
video, the super slo-mo cameras turn their attention to the Euro 2012 fan parks to capture in-game
reactions during the Germany [.
A refusal by Spanish television stations to bid at current rates for rights to broadcast next
season's top league Spanish soccer matches creates an opportunity for Al Jazeera to push into
Europe and become the world's premier global broadcaster, says writer James Dorsey.
"The BBC's governing principles, closely associated with its first Director-General, Sir John
Reith, are to educate, inform and entertain the whole nation, free from political interference and
commercial pressure. These ideals continue to underpin an enduring vision of the BBC as the
"national" broadcaster.
Where's Waldo? The question should instead be, Where isn't he?
Former US international and current Fox Soccer broadcaster Eric Wynalda may be called many
things, but one of them is definitely not "shrinking violet." Wynalda, at the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
Now THAT'S a SuperDraft!Wow that's a lot of punnage in one title. With reason
though, as something is definitely going on behind the scenes which will help explain Toronto FC's
two First Round draft picks at the MLS SuperDraft. (Don't you just hate those non-Super Drafts? So
boring.) With their braintrust gathered in Kansas City, TFC did their best to confound those who do
mock drafts.
