By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Feb 6, 2012) US Soccer Players -- As halftime came to an end
during Sunday's Chelsea - Manchester United broadcast on Fox, studio host Rob Stone fell back on
what has become a cliché of getting professional soccer over to a broader audience. Each and every
game is of unquestioned importance.
The first ever live Premier League match shown on free-to-air network television in the United
States delivered 1.3 million viewers for the Sunday, January 22 match between Arsenal and
Manchester United on FOX. The broadcast delivered a 0.8 rating...

Kobe Bryant had a busy night yesterday. Not only did he break Michael Jordan's All-Star game
scoring record, he helped lead the Western Conference to a 152-149 victory over the Eastern
Conference. And on top of that, he suffered a broken nose.
Kobe Bryant broke his nose after a hard foul by Dwyane Wade.
On the final day of the 2012-13 Premier League season, the incredible match between Manchester City
and Queens Park Rangers on ESPN2 was viewed by a US audience of 600,000 people according to

As we do every so often, we thought we would take a look around the web to see how mainstream
websites and publications are covering the annual SuperDraft. We'll start across in the pond in
England, where the Guardian continues its regular (and impressive) MLS coverage with a
team-by-team look at the upcoming draft through the eyes of various team supporters.

Sunday will mark a significant milestone in the progession of soccer in America.
When Fox airs the Arsenal-Manchester United match at 11 a.m., it will be the first live Premier
League broadcast in the United States on network television.
The first live telecast of an English Premier League game on a United States over-the-air network
was seen by 1.3 million viewers last weekend, more than double the high for previous broadcasts on
cable television.
Fox says Thursday that Manchester United's 2-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday received a 0.
Grayson gone! This weeks show looks at the implications of this sadly expected sacking and in
true Twiggster style, looks forward to the future with hope and looks back on Grayson's tenure at
our club.
The sacking overshadows an horrendous 4-1 home defeat to Birmingham in midweek and a truly
abysmal January transfer window.
By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Feb 13, 2012) US Soccer Players -- Watch enough English soccer
broadcasts, and you might begin to notice a few trends. Saying the last name of whoever happens to
have his foot on the ball at a given moment might be more of a cliché, but it's an expected part
of an English soccer broadcast.
"On this week's Gadsby's England roundup, the search for a new England manager continues as
caretaker-manager Stuart Pearce prepares to name the squad to take on Holland at Wembley next week,
and England change their kit – again. On the only broadcast in the world dedicated exclusively to
the England football team.
-Portland and San Jose played to a 1-1 draw last night. Here is a link to the highlights.

-US mens team prepares for its friendly in Italy tomorrow. I will have a full preview of the match
later today.
The match was supposed to be a tune up for the CONCACAF Champions League match against Santos
Laguna, and if the Tuesday night Community Shield is any indication Seattle Sounders FC are as
ready as they could be. Fredy Montero's brace highlighted an evening that saw a visiting Mexican
team play a fairly strong side.

Beware the Autoplay!
Will Ferrell has a new film out called 'Casa de mi Padre' which is set in Mexico and in which he
talks Spanish for the duration though it appears Ferrell's grasp of the language may not be quite
so fluent in what we have collectively been indoctrinated by the Queen shape-shifting reptile to
refer to as 'real life.
For those watching at home, ESPN broadcast is getting better
"ESPN is ramping up its camera complement for the regular season, with plans to roll out eight
hard cameras, including one super slo-mo camera, for every match.
For select matches, such as the season opener in Portland, ESPN will up the camera complement to
include a jib, a handheld Steadicam, and a goal-line cam.
Their Words "It's their home opener and they brought it." Philadelphia defender Danny Califf. Other
Sources Firepower can boost US Olympic bid - from FoxSoccer.com's Ives Galarcep: Porter will look
to stretch defenses with speed on the wing.... NBC Sports draws viewership spike for first MLS
broadcast of season - from The Sporting News's Brian Straus: The number seems low, but it
represents a more than threefold increase from last year's opening telecast on Fox.
The 2012 Major League Soccer season kicked off this past weekend with a noticeable difference,
the first match of the season was not broadcast on national television, in fact it wasn't till
Sunday afternoon that an MLS match was broadcast nationally. While the realization of no national
broadcast dawned somewhat late on many MLS fans, it did not go unnoticed on Saturday as fans
scrounged to find free previews of either MLS's internet/cable season subscription packages or for
an unsanctioned online feed.
Chris and Ted are back discussing all Champions League and as Boris Aguilar from the Red Patch
Boys is on to discuss Toronto's shock victory over the Galaxy. In the second segment, Josh Guessman
gives his perspective on the Galaxy's defeat on Wednesday. Dave Clark from sounderatheart.com drops
in to discuss the Sounder's collapse in Mexico at the hands of Santos Laguna.
On the plus side of things, the Philadelphia Union put in a significantly better performance
than in their opener against Portland. On the negative side of things, lack of finish and poor
defensive play, including a howler from Zac MacMath, resulted in the Philadelphia Union dropping
all three points to Colorado Rapids in a 2-1 defeat at PPL Park.
Gadsby is in the Ukraine—no, the Euros haven't begun three months early! It's a special Euro
2012 preview show on the only broadcast in the world dedicated exclusively to the England football
team.
Did I overstate it in the headline? Perhaps. Or perhaps, I'm dead on. To find out, I talk to
Jonathan Tannenwald who covers the Union for philly.com. And just to get the full perspective, I
talk to Taylor Twellman, who did color commentary for Union broadcast last season, to get his
input.

Downright classy stuff from Houston Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark who, during Dynamo's 2-0
defeat against Seattle Sounders on Friday, yelled 'f**king f*gg*t' in a young ballboy's face after
the kid had the temerity to drop the football near him rather than directly at his
feet while Clark was trying to take a quick throw.

This weekend during a match between Seattle and Houston on NBC Sports Network, Colin Clark called
the ballboy a, "fucking faggot". His voice was very clear on the broadcast. Today the MLS suspended
Clark for three games, fined him an undisclosed amount, and will make him attend sensitivity
training.
Last night the US Women played their second and final match of the Kirin Challenge Cup. The
initial kickoff time was an inconvenient 4am Pacific, but due to impending bad weather the match
was moved up to a more reasonable midnight. Unfortunately, ESPN stuck with the initial time for the
broadcast, so Twitter was the only source for live updates.
On this week's roundup, one of FIFA's very own says the organisation is rotten to the core,
Oxlade-Chamberlain puts the curse on as he declares England can win Euro 2012, and the FA continue
to dither over the appointment of the next England manager. On the only broadcast in the world

Noticed this over the weekend on the NBC broadcast of Philadelphia and Columbus. Whatcha
think?
The lead-up to Monday's top of the table showdown between Man City and Man United was inflated
by a number of erroneous and ridiculous claims of the match being a "title decider," comparable
to the Super Bowl and that the 650-million person global reach of the match's broadcast was
actually the estimated viewership.

Following a dogged pursuit and intense negotiations, former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola has
been put in charge of every professional club in Europe. Even before stepping down from his job
with Barcelona at the end of the season, Guardiola has been linked named as the prime target by a
number of Europe's top clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool and Milan.
Greetings from Los Angeles. Trading in the training ground for the studio has been an
interesting switch. Few people realize how much hard work, precision timing and copious amounts of
caffeine go into making a broadcast (particularly a studio show). Below are some shots from my time
on set for FOX Soccer's Match Day and Goals on Sunday.
