Editor's note: As a follow-up to the recent article about ESPN2's number of viewers for
Premier League games it has shown so far this season, I asked EPL Talk readers if anyone would be
interested in analyzing the data more closely. New York City resident LD Montejo responded to the
call and has produced these very eyeopening observations and charts below.

Ever have that girlfriend or boyfriend who drove you absolutely nutso batty? You fought like
gangsters. You both knew the buttons to push to make the other pop like a tart.
But the sex rocked and you had someone to eat breakfast with. Life was far more interesting with
them, and came one moment every single day you were deliriously happy they were around.

This might be the 3rd biggest match in the team's short history (the win over DC United to take
the Open Cup, and the away game against Houston in the playoffs were bigger).
World Cup previews. They can be a bit dull and not particularly helfpul when it comes to
predicting who will qualify from each group. One reason for this is that they focus too much on
things like players and formations and not enough on the really good things. Like quality of
national anthem, team nickname and potential celebrity spokesperson.
With the 2010 World Cup in South Africa just a few days away you will want to be sure that you
are able to watch every game of this prestigous competition and you may have to consider being able
to watch the World Cup online if you are going to be stuck at work where your employers won't allow
you to watch the matches.
The 2010 World Cup has exploded on US television with record ratings. During the first weekend,
the audience numbers for the first five games for the 2010 World Cup on ESPN were twice as high as
those from four years ago during the 2006 World Cup. And now, during the second weekend, Univision
is reporting that their broadcast of Mexico against France was the largest audience for a World Cup
match on its network.
I was really motivated this morning by the Guardian's discovery of Darius Vassell's lonely blog
from Turkey, which includes typical footballer fare like "Can't get any sleep, just thinking about
the many problems that i have here and the best solution. Lying there awake in bed, the sound of
the air conditioning is like the engine room to a train of stressful thoughts .
ACES (Any Club Except Seattle), the supporters group which has a cup for the team which beats the
Sounders the most times each season, pulled off a big Stunt at the Sounders' home opener against
the Philadelphia Union. They had a plane fly over Qwest with the banner "ACES: GO UNION!"
Now that you know the back story, read this information from an anonymous source (who also provided
the picture above):
Just before game time and as the broadcast was switching between ESPN studios there was a little
activity in the booth as Harkes and Dellacamera were drawn to the window.
A few weeks ago, ESPN2 achieved a record high TV viewing audience for a broadcast of a Premier
League match on US television. That game on April 3, 2010 between Manchester United and Chelsea
drew an audience of 526,000 viewers. And now with this past Saturday's derby between Manchester
City and Manchester United, ESPN2 scored an equally impressive viewing audience.

Take that, FIFA broadcast Uploaded with ImageShack.us Apart from Ricardo Osorio, whose howler let
in Gonzalo Higuain, the fall guy of Argentina's second goal was the cameraman who ended up taking a
couple of whacks from Gabriel Heinze. The cameraman was firstly headbutted by Heinze as he filmed
the goal celebrations.
It seems the English broadcast giants Sky Sports have run out of iconic sports
figures to help in their advertising campaigns and have turned to former Manchester
United legend Eric Cantona instead. The controversial Frenchman is always
one who has a way with words, and in this commercial (entitled "the Word") Cantona is back to
quoting his best!

Stay in the game long enough, doing whatever it is that keeps you afloat, and you're bound to

Beeb broadcasts c-word at tea-time The c-word is one of the last remaining taboos in British
broadcasting. It occasionally slips out in live interviews (just ask Steven Bywater), but rarely
makes it into an edited news package. Produced by the BBC. Broadcast as people are tucking into
their dinner. But when Rangers fans visit Manchester [.
FootBrazil picked out ten players who are set to have a massive future in the game. Some of them
you'll already know. Some will be new names. But all of them have bags of talent and also fitted
our criteria of being under 23. Naturally, we couldn't fit everyone on the list. So, if you want to
see seven more young stars in the making, check out Brazil: the talent factory 2010.
Sunday's massive match between Chelsea and Liverpool (11am ET, Fox Soccer Channel) should be a
relatively straightforward game for the Blues. Considering how both teams have played so far this
season, Chelsea should overpower Liverpool with ease. But such is the game of football that you
never know.

The Kansas City Wizards took part in the pre-draft ritual of endless trade talk, but unlike
other teams, the Wizards wound up the subjects of one of the juicier rumors of MLS Draft Day 2010.
Various reports, including one on the ESPN broadcast of the MLS Draft, reported that the Wizards
were shopping around U.
WV Hooligan found the TV schedule for the big show. Looks like the games will generally be on at 4
a.m., 6:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Pacific time (eek!).
Both ESPN and ABC have a huge blowout planned for the broadcast. They've already signed Martin
Tyler and hinted to 3-D coverage. Games will all be covered live and on site -- unlike last time,
where some games were broadcast from the studio.
Chelsea has been eliminated from UEFA Champions League, having lost 1-0 to José Mourinho and
Internazionale at Stamford Bridge, leaving the tournament on Tuesday after a 3-1 aggregate defeat.
On this edition of the EPL Talk podcast, Kartik Krishnaiyer and myself review the Special One's
return to the Bridge and ask how the surviving English Premier League sides would fair against
Mourinho's Inter.
Since this weekend features the semi-finals of the FA Cup, I thought it'd be interesting to take
a trip down memory lane to see what a FA Cup semi-final from 1982 was like featuring two teams that
in today's age would seem like unlikely participants at this stage in the tournament.
Queens Park Rangers played West Bromwich Albion in the 1981-82 semi-final.
Boy, Steve Davis hits it on the head with this one. I know I've harped over MLS broadcasts
before and Davis made several points I'd said in the past. Quality read for those (like me) who get
annoyed easy while listening to a MLS game.
I always say the best cure for it is to do what Seattle is doing, a single broadcaster calling
the game.
Sadly, most of them can be applied to national tv broadcasts, too.
Stop talking. Seriously. You aren't being paid by the word. Your witty banter ... well,
it isn't. Witty that is. In one match this weekend, two goofballs were going back and forth about
their anniversaries and their sons and daughters and such.
It happened over a week ago, but I just acquired a tape of the Rowdies' first home game
broadcast against Austin on May 8, and, for those of you who haven't seen the highlights, here they
are. To paraphrase the old Bullwinkle cartoons, it's "Penalty Kick Theatre" or "When

The most anticipated game for England in four long, long years, one marked by optimism and hope
and all those nasty words that lead down the inevitable road to tears for all but one. And then
Steven Gerrard, the captain by default...and default again, found some space, kicked the ball and
held his arms aloft so that fans could celebrate alongside him after years of disappointment
and.

By Tuesday morning, the BBC had received 545 complaints from viewers about the constant buzzing
sound of the plastic horns used by fans at games in South Africa.

Seems Jurgen Klinsmann was thisclose to being named the new USA head coach not once, but twice in
the last four years. The California based ex-Germany manager was favourite to succeed Bruce Arena
after the 2006 World Cup, until Bob Bradley was announced as interim and then perma-coach.
We'll start our weekend recap in Chicago, where almost 32k saw an entertaining match between the
US and Poland. Soldier field was chosen as the venue for the match (rather than Toyota Park) and
the additional capacity was important. The crowd looked good and appeared to be a reasonable mix
of Polish and US fans.
Juan Pablo Angel is moving on after this season.. (Getty Images)
In a way most of us weren't shocked to hear the news last night that New York Red Bull striker
and Designated Player Juan Pablo Angel was most likely not to return to New York after this season.
When asked last night on the broadcast of the US-Colombia game if he would return next year to the
Red Bulls he said "I probably won't".

As Major League Soccer enters its sixteenth season, it is reaching an impasse. Average attendance
