Greetings from Los Angeles. Trading in the training ground for the studio has been an interesting switch. Few people realize how much hard work, precision timing and copious amounts of caffeine go into making a broadcast (particularly a studio show). Below are some shots from my time on set for FOX Soccer's Match Day and Goals on Sunday.

Last night the US Women played their second and final match of the Kirin Challenge Cup. The initial kickoff time was an inconvenient 4am Pacific, but due to impending bad weather the match was moved up to a more reasonable midnight. Unfortunately, ESPN stuck with the initial time for the broadcast, so Twitter was the only source for live updates.

This weekend during a match between Seattle and Houston on NBC Sports Network, Colin Clark called the ballboy a, "fucking faggot". His voice was very clear on the broadcast. Today the MLS suspended Clark for three games, fined him an undisclosed amount, and will make him attend sensitivity training.

Did I overstate it in the headline? Perhaps. Or perhaps, I'm dead on. To find out, I talk to Jonathan Tannenwald who covers the Union for philly.com. And just to get the full perspective, I talk to Taylor Twellman, who did color commentary for Union broadcast last season, to get his input.

On the plus side of things, the Philadelphia Union put in a significantly better performance than in their opener against Portland. The 2012 Major League Soccer season kicked off this past weekend with a noticeable difference, the first match of the season was not broadcast on national television, in fact it wasn't till Sunday afternoon that an MLS match was broadcast nationally. While the realization of no national broadcast dawned somewhat late on many MLS fans, it did not go unnoticed on Saturday as fans scrounged to find free previews of either MLS's internet/cable season subscription packages or for an unsanctioned online feed.

For select matches, such as the season opener in Portland, ESPN will up the camera complement to include a jib, a handheld Steadicam, and a goal-line cam.

Will Ferrell has a new film out called 'Casa de mi Padre' which is set in Mexico and in which he talks Spanish for the duration though it appears Ferrell's grasp of the language may not be quite so fluent in what we have collectively been indoctrinated by the Queen shape-shifting reptile to refer to as 'real life.

NBC Sports announced today that it has hired Arlo White as the play-by-play voice of its MLS coverage starting in 2012. White had served as the voice of the Seattle Sounders the past two seasons.

His first broadcast with NBC Sports will be March 11 on opening weekend.
