There is a buoyancy to both of these teams given their undefeated starts to the season, and with
the respective managers having also acquired a host of fresh recruits prior to the close of the
transfer window it feels likely this fixture will be characterised by a sense of adventure and
renewed excitement.
Match Review: Stoke 1 Liverpool 0
Liverpool feel to their first defeat of the season as their poor record at the Britannia Stadium
continued. The Reds have yet to win a league game at Stoke's ground in four attempts, and Jonathan
Walters' first half penalty was enough to secure victory for the Potters on this occasion.
victoria.

Now that deadline day's out the way, it's time to take a look at who's feeling smugly
self-satisfied about the whole affair and who spent the small hours of last night crying into their
pillow at the injustice of it all. Here, in no particular order, are the four biggest winners and
losers to emerge from yesterday's dealings.
Liverpool hasn't won at the Britannia Stadium in the Premier League and they will be in for another
tough game at Stoke on Saturday.
Tony Pulis has done some great business in the transfer market and it's been a real show of
ambition by Stoke.
They've brought in the likes of Peter Crouch, Matthew Upton, Jonathan Woodgate and Cameron Jerome
and look set for a good season.
When Liverpool signed 20 year old Uruguayan centre back Sebastian Coates from Nacional on the
30th of August, they picked up a great young player who could be a big name player in the Premier
League for the next ten to fifteen years. They didn't however necessarily target a player who will
make an immediate impact on the team.
Kenny Dalglish has revealed he has no fresh injury worries ahead of Liverpool's trip to Stoke City
this weekend as he confirmed Steven Gerrard continues to make good progress in his recovery.
The boss expects to have Charlie Adam available for selection at the Britannia Stadium after the
midfielder was ruled out of Scotland's Euro 2012 qualifier with Lithuania.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has revealed that he is delighted to have signed Craig Bellamy and
Sebastian Coates and admitted that he is considering the pair for the weekend trip to Stoke
City.
Both players joined the Reds during the summer, and the Scot stated that they are now "champing at
the bit" to play a part in the game against the Potters this weekend.

Liverpool are down 1-0 at the fortress known as Britannia Stadium, as a penalty converted by
Jonathan Walters has handed Stoke City a 1-0 lead heading into half-time.
Reds vice-captain Jamie Carragher was whistled for fouling Walters and the 27-year old Potters
winger made no mistake in confidently smashing his spot-kick in the upper center of the goal.

After Jon Walter's 20 minute legitimate penalty against Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium, the
away team were compelled to attack Stoke at every opportunity.
To their credit, Dalglish's team did just that.
They played posession football, attacking Tony Pulis's team incessently, without any end result.
Liverpool stumbled over a familiar hurdle at the Britannia Stadium as they slipped to their first
defeat of the season.
In four visits to Stoke since the Potters earned promotion to the Barclays Premier League, the Reds
have collected just two points and lost their last two matches.
Not since 1968 have Stoke recorded back-to-back home league wins over Liverpool and the result
brought a side brimming with confidence before the international break back down to earth with a
hefty bump.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish says he will consult the club's owners over how to deal with what
he perceives to be poor refereeing so far this season.
The Reds boss was unhappy with a number of decisions during his side's 1-0 defeat at Stoke on
Saturday.
And afterwards he said: "The first four games have had contentious decisions in them and every one
has gone against us.
Stoke City boss Tony Pulis has expressed his satisfaction at stopping Liverpool from playing after
his side beat the Reds 1-0 at the Britannia Stadium.
The win came courtesy of a contentious penalty after Jamie Carragher was deemed to have illegally
brought down Jonathan Walters, incurring the wrath of Kenny Dalglish after the game, with the Scot
displeased that his side had seen several appeals fall on deaf ears.
Stewart Downing believes Liverpool have every right to feel frustrated at the manner of the defeat
to Stoke City on Saturday - but insists there are positives to be derived from their
performance.
The Reds slipped to a narrow 1-0 loss courtesy of Jon Walters's 21st minute penalty after Jamie
Carragher was adjudged to have brought down the Potters forward inside the box.
Calm Down, Calm Down
When it comes to supporting a team, there are no better fans in the world than that of Liverpool
Football Club. Unfortunately, though, there are also none worse. A string of good results and we
are title contenders, one loss against a well drilled defensive unit away from home and suddenly we
are no better off than we were last season.
Stewart Downing feels Liverpool deserved more after defeat away at Stoke
The England winger believes the Reds' loss at the Britannia stadium was unfortunate and stressed
the need to repeat the positive performance against Tottenham
