Stoke City 0-1 Sunderland Premier League 4th February 2012
Martin O'Neill's Black Cats continued their ascent of the table on Saturday against Stoke,
although the very harsh sending-off of Robert Huth on half-time was undeniably a game-changing
moment.
Liverpool turn their attentions back to the Premier League this weekend when they welcome Stoke to
Anfield after two games in the FA Cup and Carling Cup.
The Reds go into the clash boosted by the news that skipper Steven Gerrard has signed a new
long-term deal which is likely to see him end his playing career at Anfield.
The new timebomb Stoke City are aiming to make amends for their 'turning down The Beatles' moment
with their latest transfer target. Tony Pulis and co. infamously rejected the Premier League's
current in-form striker, Demba Ba, this time last year. Ba failed a medical at the Britannia
Stadium, with Pulis subsequently describing the Senegal international's [.
Boxing Day is one of the most exciting days of the year for soccer fans as all 20 Premier League
teams take to the field over a two-day period and Monday's offerings did not disappoint.
Manchester United are now tied at the top of the Premier League title after a 5-0 destruction of
Wigan.
After the defeat to Stoke at the Britannia Stadium recently, it was important for Spurs to get
back to winning ways. White Hart Lane has been a fortress for us in recent seasons but the Martin
O'Neil factor was always likely to threaten our chances last Sunday against Sunderland.
In the end a moment of magic from Dutchman Van der Vart and an emphatic finish from forgotten
man Roman Pavlyuchenko secured the points.

The Daily Mail's photos of Ryan Shotton and his amazing hidden unicolor ball-dryer
According to the Daily Mail, the powers that be are investigating Stoke City after their rather
clever/sneaky use of towelling vests worn by their players in the game against Tottenham.
Stoke City ended Tottenham's six-match Premier League winning streak while Martin O'Neill's
Sunderland left it late to heap more misery on Steve Kean and Blackburn Rovers.
Simon Vukčević's early goal seemed destined to give Blackburn their second consecutive victory
and lift them out of the bottom three.
December is always an important month in the Premier League, as the lead up to Christmas hands
all teams a frantic and testing fixture build-up, and gives an inclination into how the season will
shape up. Spurs have impressed so much that a top four finish is being overlooked in favour of the
a potential title contenders tag; a number of difficult games will test Harry Redknapp's men over
the next month.

A silly booking You know how continental referees love to deliver their yellow cards with a bit of
a flourish? Well, German official Florian Meyer hadn't counted on the blustery conditions generated
by the Britannia Stadium's missing corners when he tried to show off during tonight's Europa League
match between Stoke and Dynamo Kiev.
Ladies and Gentl... The sombre atmosphere at Stoke City ahead of a tribute to Gary Speed before
their Europa League clash with Dynamo Kiev was briefly lightened by some PA system comedy. The
Potters' stadium announcer was eager to introduce the tribute to Speed to the Britannia Stadium
faithful. But every time he attempted to [.

Stoke City continue to impress in their debut European season, as a 2-1 win over Maccabi Tel
Aviv in Israel on Thursday night sees Tony Pulis' side on the brink of qualification from Group E
of the Europa League.
Martin Skrtel believes Liverpool are the right club to harness the potential of fellow centre-half
Sebastian Coates.
The Uruguayan has featured just three times for the Reds since signing in the summer for £7m with
Coates' last outing his most encouraging appearance to date.
Although the 21-year-old's mistake led to Stoke City opening the scoring in last month's Carling
Cup fourth round tie at the Britannia Stadium, the Montevideo-born player was otherwise outstanding
against Tony Pulis' uncompromising outfit.
Jonas Gutierrez is often seen running all over the pitch to leave it all out on the field for
Newcastle United but following the Magpies incredible 3-1 win away to Stoke City, the Argentine
acknowledged that the club's strike pairing stole the show.
Summer signing Demba Ba struck a brilliant hat-trick to silence the fortress known as Britannia
Stadium but Leon Best was equally effective in threatening the Potters' goal.
Venue: Britannia Stadium, Sir Stanley Matthews Way, Stoke-upon-Trent. Date: Monday, October 26th,
2011. Kick-off: 8:00pm. Referee: Mike Dean. Demba Ba's second hat-trick of the season powered
Newcastle United to a 3-1 victory at the Britannia Stadium and up to 3rd place in the Premier
League. Stoke usually start apace at home but it was us [.

Why I'm predicting a tough test for the Toon at Stoke
Playing Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium is like being body-searched at the toughest airport
security in the world. It is an experience that requires patience, perseverance and a great
deal of purpose. On Monday night Newcastle United must withstand such a comprehensive and
personal examination if Alan Pardew's men are to continue their fabulous unbeaten start to
their Premier League season.

over Stoke in the Carling Cup.
Return of the Comeback Kings
It is rare in football that one result ever goes on to be defined as a turning point in the
season of either team involved. While the concept is frequently discussed, the reality in terms of
the performance of the team lies more firmly in their continued application and sustained
confidence.
Steve Clarke believes it would have been impossible for any goalkeeper to save what he describes as
a 'very special goal' from Luis Suarez on Wednesday night.
The Uruguay international fired both goals as the Reds progressed to the Carling Cup quarter-finals
with a 2-1 win over Stoke City.
But it was Suarez's first - involving a nutmeg on Ryan Shotton and a sensational curl beyond Thomas
Sorensen - that drew looks of awe from all four stands in the Britannia Stadium.
Jordan Henderson wants to focus on beating West Brom in the Premier League on Saturday rather than
worrying about who Liverpool will meet in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.
Kenny Dalglish's men secured a spot in the last eight after coming back from a goal down to beat
Stoke City 2-1 on Wednesday night.
A second-half brace from Luis Suarez sent Liverpool through to the quarter-finals of the Carling
Cup with a 2-1 win over Stoke.
Both managers named strong teams, and a crowd of just short of 25,000 at the Britannia Stadium were
rewarded with a first half full of chances that ended with Kenwyne Jones heading in the opening
goal after Jon Walters had robbed Sebastian Coates.

Stadium.
Kenny Dalglish has Luiz Suarez to thank after his side went in one-nil down at half time due to a
Kenwyne Jones headed goal on 44 mins.
This was despite Liverpool having shots saved by Sorensen from Andy Carroll, Martin Kelly and
Suarez who was a problem for Stoke all evening.
