Chelsea is now five points clear at the top of the Premier League after their 2-0 win over
Wolves was followed by Manchester City's 0-3 loss to Arsenal. Now, three teams sit behind the Blues
with 17 points thanks to Manchester United returning to their late goals coring ways at the
Britannia.
For the second consecutive match day, the English Premier League has given us a slate full of
close, exciting matches. Whether it be a back-and-forth affair at Villa Park, leads being given-up
and reclaimed at the Britannia, gifted equalizers at White Hart Lane or dramatically salvaged
points at Goodison, the league was full of compelling fixtures.
Carlos Tevez is a doubt for next Sunday's Champions League crunch with Liverpool after making a
trans-Atlantic mercy dash to Argentina to be by the side of his expecting partner.
Her pregnancy has run into problems just weeks before she is due to give birth and Manchester City
have granted Tevez indefinite compassionate leave to be with her.

Get Behind ‘em!
A certain ex-pop star was delighted with Spurs' Champion's League draw but commented that he
thought Harry's men failed to get on top in Tuesday's clash and must get into their opposition more
in the second leg. "Get behind them!
Most ties this week look fairly underwhelming on paper next to the classic Manchester United
v. Liverpool match. But don't let that fool you into thinking that the Stoke City v. West Ham
United match is going to be a massive sleeper. Other matches could very well end in tear-jerking
boredom, while sum could very well experience an unforeseen upset presented to the football
world.
Arsenal needed until extra-time to dispose of Tottenham 4-1, while Owen Coyle's Bolton suffered a
shock defeat to Burnley in Carling Cup action on Tuesday night. League One hosts Brentford also
caused a major upset as they held struggling Everton to a 1-1 stalemate in regular time before
dumping the Toffees out 4-3 on penalties.

Like last Monday, today's journey into work took an unfamiliar feel. Same bus, same journey,
same dreary monotony...save one detail. Normally my morning routine involves catching up with the
latest football headlines on Sky Sports News, before casting my eyes over the online news on the
bus.
Not today, not last week.
What a dashing young man
Reports in the papers today suggest that Celtic manager Tony Mowbray is lining up a loan move
for Stoke striker Dave Kitson, which would see the player move north of the border until the end of
the season.
The striker moved from Reading to Stoke in 2008 for a club record fee of £5.
Tony Pulis saw his Stoke City side race into a three goal lead within the first 40 minutes and
then the Britannia side took their foot off the pedal and Fulham pulled a couple of goals back
before The Potters held out for a crucial win.

...The Asylum!
Quite simply one of the craziest post match interviews since Kevin Keegan went off his rocker
some moons ago. During this interview with Sky Sports he manages to say "27,000 people" eight times
and for the rest of the time tries to avoid answering any slightly difficult questions.

Could this be the 'bust up' in question?
Wolverhampton Wanderers have entered into negotiations with Stoke City after having a £3
million bid accepted for striker James Beattie. The former England man has not
been enjoying life at The Britannia recently after struggling to recapture the form he showed
after joining the club from Sheffield United last January.

Stoke City have reignited negotiations with Portsmouth regarding veteran 'keeper David
James' on-off loan move to The Britannia. Initial talks fell through last Friday as the
two teams could not agree over how much of James' £40,000-a-week wages Stoke would have to
contribute.
It's that time again. A tricky Cup tie is upon us, eleven first team players are unavailable and
we have a potentially decisive set of league fixtures lined up for the next fortnight. Le Boss has
to walk the tightrope once again and hope that the squad has enough depth and quality to get a
result.
Tony Pulis brings top notch keeper to the Britannia.

Stoke have signed Portsmouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on a four-and-a-half-year contract
for £3.
Arsenal 2 Sunderland 0
It is probably worth remarking now that whilst the three points dropped at the Stadium of Light did
not seem that bad at the time - Sunderland were in a great run of form - it now appears to be a
very costly result.
Having beaten Liverpool and Sunderland, Chelsea's lead has been cut to six points.
Tottenham and Aston Villa's wins on Sunday, combined with Manchester City's draw with Liverpool
has seen more change in the top four.
The Champions League qualification spot is now occupied by Spurs, but Villa are only a point
behind in seventh and they along with City both have a game in hand on us and Liverpool.
The Game Arsenal visit Stoke City in what can easily be described as a nightmare place to play in,
having lost their last two games at the Britannia. The Gunners will know that they simply cannot
...
That's it then. Arsenal have officially turned the corner. In the same way that Eduardo's
injury, Stuart Parnaby's dive and William Gallas's teary outburst reflected the collapse of their
2007-08 title challenge, so Ramsey's injury, Danny Pugh's waving arms and Cesc Fabregas's penalty
will reflect Arsenal's glorious rampage to the title.
Defence collapsing the moment pressure is applied. Young players out of their depth. Keeper all
over the place. Powerless manager with no idea how to respond. Don't know who that could possibly
describe. Oh hang on, it was us, the last time we played Stoke at the Britannia. It seems a whole
world away now, so [.
The definition of the word epic is as follows: heroic; majestic; impressively great. Such were
moments from a few brave Scots this weekend that saw their respective clubs gain a valuable three
points to either continue their pursuit of the title, or stave off a potentially feisty relegation
battle.
It seems we've got ourselves a squad. A colony, even. It's been spread pretty thin over the past
thirty games- numbers have been falling since day one- but the cogs have kept chugging and
stand-ins found at almost every turn. The colony remains: sturdy, functional and hoovering up
points like a god damn Dyson Powerball.

Maul Britannia. I was at the reverse fixture of this. I remarked at the time that the most
memorable thing about the encounter was the bloke relieving himself in the sink of the South Stand
toilets at full-time. Cocking his leg like a spaniel, he hardly seemed to notice the stockpile of
people cramming in behind him, cueing for the usual facilities.
Stoke City's FinestSome onlookers may think we're playing Stoke on Trent RUFC, especially if Pulis
sends his men out to bash us up a bit. After all, they've got the personnel to do us in. I don't
want to say that class is defined by the amount of wins your team can muster up at stadia like the
Britannia, but I wouldn't be far off the mark if I did.
Stoke striker can almost smell his move away from Britannia Dave Kitson was almost certain to leave
Stoke City this summer. But to make extra sure that he gets his transfer, the misfiring striker has
launched a public attack on manager Tony Pulis. After the Potters boss hit out at Kitson's reaction
to being substituted in the [.
Gooood morning, Vietnam. Or at least that's how it feels. A whole box of public
relation hand-grenades have been popping off this weekend as Peter- all round bloody nice
guy- Crouch has been caught with his pantaloons askew. And eight-hundred bucks lighter for his
troubles.
That's the question I want readers of EPL Talk to pay special attention to over the course of
the next few weeks as each club will get a chance to open up a new season at home. As the new
campaign starts, every club has ambitions and feel like world beaters as they begin anew. Whatever
the result teams earned last year, either good or bad, the slate has now been wiped clean.
Stoke City have confirmed the capture of striker Jon Walters from Ipswich Town. The Potters have
paid Ipswich an initial fee of £2.75 million as manager Tony Pulis continues to bolster a front
line that has already benefited from new signing Kenwyne Jones.
A club statement released to the media confirmed that Walters, a 26 year old Ireland B
international, signed a four year contract with Stoke following his move.
It has been an excellent day so far for two North London youngsters who have truly made their
pace count down the flanks. Arsenal's Theo Walcott and Tottenham's Gareth Bale have both struck a
brace to hand their respective teams an edge going into half-time.
In Walcott's case, the advantage that his club holds is a bit more than just an edge, to say the
least.
And what a pleasing weekend that was. A dogged, Stoke-shaped obstacle lay between ourselves and
three points last Saturday afternoon, and, while we didn't float majestically over the blockade
with the grace of an Olympic hurdler, we did, at least, roll our sleeves up and clatter our way to
the other side.

People are fond of claiming that Stoke is a tough place to go, but the truth is that they lost
six games at the Britannia last season and their overall home record ranked 13th in the league.
Villa were 12th if you're interested.
We haven't beaten Stoke at the Britannia yet, the last league win on their own turf being a 3-1
win at the old Victoria Ground in 1984.
Had it not been for the arrival of their boss at halftime, Stoke probably would have fallen
victim to an under-performing Aston Villa side. Tony Pulis flew back to Wales early Monday morning
after his mother passed away.
Heading into halftime, Stoke found themselves down 1-0 after Villa's Stewart Downing used his
head to put the Villans up.

For most of the nineties, Stoke City and Port Vale seemed to be battling it out for Potteries
hegemony, but those days seem very distant now. Tony Pulis has converted the Britannia from a nasty
place to visit on most fronts to a nasty one on all fronts and the Potters' excellent reaction to a
dreadful start is typical of their determination as a club.
Who: Erik Edman When: April 16th,2005 Where:
Anfeild, in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool. What: An unstoppable 38 yard
strike.
In his first season Erik Edman successfully established himself as Tottenham's first choice
Left-back.
There wouldn't have been many worse places to go than Stoke had Wayne Rooney not bottled his
move to Manchester City. This hateful bunch of supporters, who put more time and effort in to
slagging off the opposition than supporting their own team, would have had a field day if Rooney
had left.
As it is, they will start the day very deflated, unable to sing their well rehearsed songs they
had been penning together on their football forums.
"You're shit and Rooney said you are!" the Stoke fans chanted after scoring their equalising
goal against United at the Britannia yesterday.
Five minutes later, Chicharito stepped up to score the winner.
Stoke are now 1 point above the relegation zone whilst United are 3rd, with Arsenal's +3 goal
difference keeping us off 2nd.
