Walking the plank?
I don't really like Bristol Rovers. As a Bristol City fan, that's not really that surprising. I
don't like their kit, their players, their ever-changing roll of managers, and I especially don't
like their branding of themselves as Bristol's "Friendly Club", despite the fact they attract only
a third of City's fanbase, and sold their old stadium to Ikea.

Liverpool were drawn away to League One side Exeter in the second round of the Carling Cup,
while city rivals Everton will host Sheffield United.
Meanwhile, Doncaster host Leeds in a Yorkshire derby, while Sunderland face a long trip south to
Brighton.
Shortly before 5pm this afternoon a 37-year-old man burnt a pair of football boots in a field in
Gloucestershire and in doing so brought the curtain down on an illustrious career spanning more
than 20 years and almost as many clubs.
Julian Alsop headed home a last-minute equaliser in Bishop Cleeve's Zamaretto South and West
season finale against North Leigh shortly before he took a blowtorch to his boots, ending his last
game in typically flamboyant style.
Diomansy Kamara started and played 75 minutes in Leicester City's 3-2 loss at
Nottingham Forest on Good Friday. He did not dress in the Foxes' 4-2 over Watford on Easter
Monday.
Kagisho Dikgacoi started and played 90 minutes in Crystal Palace's 0-0 draw

Earlier this week we looked back to the memorable 1994/5 season and the game that defined Rocket
Ronny Rosenthal's career. Going back a little further, 1977/78 saw Tottenham down to the old second
division, but for those who were lucky enough to witness the games, it was a memorable
campaign.

Plymouth Argyle face a fight to hold onto their talented 19-year-old Irish striker Joe

Manager Peter Reid has revealed a number of clubs have inquired about Mason and while Reid is

plight could force them into a reluctant sale.

I have celebrated Leicester City goals in many different ways.
With just two wins in their last fifteen matches, this season has turned sour on the pitch for
Sheffield Wednesday. Earlier on this season, the team seemed to be defying the clubs financial
position and looked as if they may have a reasonable chance of a play-off place or better at the
end of this season.
QPR's 1-0 victory at Doncaster on Saturday left them nine points clear of second-placed Norwich
City and, notwithstanding any possible points deduction from the FA for the signing of Alejandro
Faurlin, poised to return to the top flight for the first time since 1996. Yet whilst Neil
Warnock's side have undoubtedly been the Championship's outstanding side all season the question of
who will join them in the Premier League next season is as unresolved as ever.
When it comes to games between Spurs and Wigan there isn't a great deal of ‘previous'. No
obscure league cup ties from the 1970s crop up, so at the risk of being obvious when you think of a
memorable win over Roberto Martinez' men, there's only one place to go.
On 22nd of November 2009, Wigan travelled to the Lane and what happened that day astonished
every single member of the crowd.
Diomansy Kamara started, played 72 minutes, and scored a goal in Leicester
City's 4-0 win over Burnley on Saturday. I'd post his goal, but I can't find any video nor can I
access the BBC iPlayer. Today he started and played 76 minutes on the Foxes' 1-1 draw with Crystal
Palace.
Kagisho Dikgacoi started and played 90 minutes in Crystal Palace's 2-1 loss at
Ipswich on Saturday.

The Championship promotion race looks set to run beyond this weekend and with that same league's
relegation places all but sewn up, it seems like an idea to return to League One. That's not to say
that Accrington Vs Barnet a further division down doesn't have its appeal, but the likes of

Rarely have the bottom division's promoted teams started a season with so much expectation. The
rapid ascent of AFC Wimbledon on the English football ladder and big spending of fellow league
debutants Crawley Town means last year's elite Conference National outfits will be under close
scrutiny.
The financial strength of the Sussex club might mean they start the season as favourites in the
football betting.

With the division in general overviewed by Ian yesterday, it's time for the annual jinx that
is the official twohundredpercent pre-season previews. We've gone about them slightly differently
this season. With the transfer window affecting some managers psychologically to the point that
they build their team by the end of the transfer window, rather than the start of the season,
predicting how it all ends up before teams have finalised their squads is tricky, especially when
you consider that Bury started last season with fifteen players with league experience, only to add
five players to their promotion winning squad before the end of August.
A lot of people worked very hard for this moment. In modern football, a considerable amount of
time, paper and bandwidth is spent on celebrating a relative few, but at Wimbledon it was the
likes of Erik Samuelson, Kris Stewart, Marc Jones and Ivor Heller, who refused to let their club
die with a that was brought about by little more than carpet-baggers.

Football is the dream of many youngsters, but only a few get the chance to turn this dream into
a reality. Even among these few, there are those who need a second chance to showcase the talents
that are unique to them.
In an exciting project developing in Spain, coach John Gontier is leading the way for many of
England's struggling young football players to keep believing in their dreams.
Darryl Duffy's career trajectory may perhaps have left the striker wondering if he has perpetually
arrived too early for the party. Most notably, journeyman though he may appear to be, he has
enjoyed spells at two clubs which, not long after his departure, have attained Premier League
status. First, he joined Hull City in a fanfare of publicity five years ago, his 37 goals in just

Liverpool lifted the League Cup for the eighth time in their history after overcoming

The Premier League leaders twice took the lead at Anfield thanks to goals in either half from
Nigel de Jong and Edin Džeko but the hosts responded swiftly on both occasions with Steven
Gerrard's penalty and Craig Bellamy's strike booking a place in the showpiece on 26 February.
Manchester United have been drawn against Leeds United in the 3rd Round of the League Cup. The
last time the teams faced each other was in the FA Cup the season before last, with our hated
rivals leaving with a 1-0 win. They brought out t-shirts to mark the momentous occasion, replacing
the "0″ with their own club badge.
The Carling Cup 3rd round draw was made today with some interesting match-up's

In a prime example of the worth of the old "do your research" adage, Crystal Palace midfielder
Andy Dorman got a rather nasty surprise after agreeing a loan move to League Two side Bristol
Rovers.
On learning of a potential move to the Pirates, the Welsh international jumped at the chance,
but in his eagerness to secure some regular playing time, he forget to do his research and expected
to be moving down just the one division.

Tim Howard and Everton find themselves in a logjam in the middle of the English Premier League
standings, but if the U.S. national team goalkeeper and his team want to make a run at the top
teams in England, they will need a win today against Stoke City to make that happen.
Everton is currently in a four-way tie in the middle of the Premier League table, but the
Toffees hold two games in hand on the pack, and wins in those two games could pull Everton within
range of arch-rival Liverpool, among others.
