Reading's 2012-13 Premier League campaign; what does Zingarevich's takeover mean? - originally
posted on Soccerlens.com
On Tuesday newly-promoted Reading announced that Thames Sports Investment has completed a 51 per
cent buyout of the club. The new owners, led by Russian businessman Anton Zingarevich, are rumoured
to be ready to spend the required revenue to help the Royals compete in the English top-flight, and
ensure their return to the big time is not on a temporary basis.
Having confirmed his intentions to part ways with Chelsea this summer, prolific striker Didier
Drogba has revealed that he would have likely stayed at the club had the Blues not won the
Champions League title on Saturday evening.
Chelsea were on the brink of yet another European heartbreak when Drogba powerfully headed home
in the final moments of regulation to send the match into extra-time.

We believe Bayern Munich is on the brink of something big and bulgy, Kickettes. In terms of
history and our predictions go, the face/body talent ratio has never steered us wrong, so we
probably shouldn't lose faith in our own system now, right?
Well, according to this llama who we'll call Larry from here on out at Ashdown Llama Park in
East Sussex, we may be wrong in due time.
The word on the street is that Fergie's Empire is crumbling and the Blue Moon of Manchester City is
on the brink of eclipsing their rival's long-held supremacy. Pundits talk of the dawn of a new era

Though Granada's match against Real Madrid began with the home side giving already crowned
champions a pasillo de honor, it ended with bitterness and flying Powerade bottles.
Real Madrid moved to within three points of a record 100 with a 2-1 win thanks to a Cristiano
Ronaldo penalty kick and a Granada own goal in the third minute of added time.
All signs point to another American joining the fold at Rangers, only this one won't be playing
on the field. He'll be sitting in the owner's box.
After a drawn out process that has seen the legendary Scottish club go into administration and
reach the brink of liquidation, the club's administrators have approved the sale of the team to
American Bill Miller, a Tennessee-based businessman.
7 years. We have all heard it, we are all suffering from the jibes and the media make sure it
repeated regularly. What has happened?
Many on the site will have sung with gusto:-
"Georgie Graham's Magic,
He wears a Magic Hat,
And when he saw the F A Cup,
He said I'm having that"
If you look carefully, BR is just below GG's shoulder!

Jose Mourinho insists his future lies at Real Madrid, despite media reports that have linked the
Portuguese manager to a return to England.
The former Chelsea boss was rumoured to be mulling over a return to Chelsea or Manchester City,
should the latter fail to win the Premier League, this season.
[T]his time four years ago Carlisle United stood on the brink of glory. A single win from their
last three games against Leeds United, Southend or Millwall would have been enough for the
Cumbrians to claim the final automatic promotion spot from League One and reach the heady heights
of English football's second tier for the first time in 20 years.
It has been a very difficult month for Tottenham who have seen there 10 point lead over 4th place
over turned by rivals Arsenal, and fingers of blame are starting to point towards Harry Redknapp
being linked with the England job.
It's easy to put two and two together and look for any old excuse but could there be any truth in
it?
AC Milan won't make a move for Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez in the summer this is
according to Milan vice president Adriano Galliani. Tevez who starred in City's 2-1 win over
Chelsea on Tuesday was on the brink of signing for the Italian giants this January however, City's
£25 million asking price proved to be to much for the cash strapped Italians.
There's a full slate of mid-week La Liga fixtures this week two matches today and the rest of La
Liga playing tomorrow. One of today's matches has Barcelona hosting Granada. It shouldn't
really be much of a contest Barcelona hasn't lost at home all season. Perhaps the only reason to
watch is that there's a good chance Lionel Messi will pull even with or even surpass César as
Barcelona's all-time leading scorer.
In amongst all of the filth and fury of this week, one simple truism has remained unchallenged:
it has to be like this. Although modern fashion likes to talk of football supporters as if we are
"valued customers" or even God forbid "stake-holders", the truth of the matter is that, by and
large, we're not.
Four SPANISH FOOTBALL matches scheduled today / tonight as part of Round 27 of the Spanish League.
Lets get straight into the summary of the main events, final results & all the goal scorers.
Agirretxe scored twice REAL SOCIEDAD won REAL ZARAGOZA 3 - 0 in 39 mins of complete match dominance
that puts Zaragoza on the brink of the 2º Division.
The contentious nature of politics drives even the best of politicians to the brink. It's at this
point, when sports have been brought up as a topic to bring levity to a broad audience and show a
more human politician.

Almost. Almost. With a four-goal swing to overturn from the first leg in Milan, Arsenal
scored three first-half goals (Laurent Koscielny, Tomas Rosicky and a Robin Van Persie penalty) at
the Emirates last night to bring themselves to the brink of the improbable though, with AC Milan
erratic and chaotic after an hour on the ropes, the Gunners were unable to land that crucial killer
blow before their ailing opponent's began to regain a foothold.
David Estrada Is Sounders' Hardest Working, Most Fit Player
The more you read about David Estrada the more you like him. This Seattle Times story does a
good job of illustrating how he's moved himself to the brink of a starting role.
Alliteration for the win. More, after the jump:
Time to re-up that Rosetta Stone collection
Get this: Barcelona are upset.
Apparently, the idea of losing another crop of high-quality young players this summer (almost a
certainty) has many in the Catalonian corner of Spain vexed.

Back and forth, back and forth, 120 minutes, late 'winners', players out on their feet,
last-gasp goal-line clearances, even later equalisers to brink it back from the brink and
then penalties after which Liverpool emerge as the 2012 Carling Cup champions!
Blackburn fans really don't like manager Steve Kean. They've expressed this through signs,
protests and even planes throughout a season that has the Rovers teetering on the brink of the
relegation zone. Their vehemence in their position has only grown the longer Kean remains in his
position and since large segments of humanity aren't able to keep football in perspective, Steve
Kean now feels the need to keep a karate expert with him at all times.
Feb 13th:
It is quite conceivable that two poor performances in the next week could land us on the
brink of a Champions League exit and out of the only trophy we have a real chance of winning, the
FA Cup.
Well here we are. We face an almost impossible task at the Emirates against Milan and lost on
the road to Sunderland in the FA Cup.

Just months ago, New York Red Bulls centerback Wilman Conde stood on the brink of recovery
without a club to call his own. Ushered out of Mexican Primera side Atlas and fresh off
rehabilitation from surgery to his left instep, the former Chicago Fire and MLS Best XI defender
was in search for a new opportunity.
With four weeks until the deciding match in the two leg aggregate series against Santos Laguna,
the Seattle Sounders have a dual focus in preseason -- winning that CONCACAF Champions League round
and preparing for a full year of matches. During yesterday's interview on KJR with Gasman and
Elise, Coach Sigi Schmid noted the importance of the CCL match against Santos.
So often the fate of a season comes down to a run of three or four games, slip up during this
period and you can undo months of hard work, look at last season for example in all four
competitions, doing well, a couple of bad results later we are left with bugger all.
We have six absolutely huge games coming up.

What a return it has been for Kenny Dalglish. Only Cardiff City now stand in the way of
Liverpool lifting the Carling Cup at Wembley later this month and thus securing the club's first
trophy in six years. King Kenny has brought the buzz back to the city. And thankfully, whatever the
dramas off the field, everyone at Anfield appears to be pulling in the same direction once
again.
If you've paid any attention to the Bayern Munich news bits over the past years, you'll know
that they've got some characters running the show. Thus their public persona isn't exactly seen as
the cuddly teddy bear, smiled-at-least-once-in-their-lives types. So to hear that they gave
Borussia Dortmund, a direct competitor, a loan which saved them from bankruptcy in 2003 is
just.
Putting footballing rivalries aside for the benefit of the greater good isn't something that
happens too often, but if it's happened anywhere, it's not surprising that it would be in the
Bundesliga. Praised as "a model of financial virtue and good governance," the league has rejected
gluttonous spending in favor of actually turning a profit.
Arsene Wenger is on the brink of becoming the longest serving manager in Arsenal's 125 year
history not to have won a trophy, we can reveal.
History shows that assuming we do not win anything this season which given our current form and
the general malaise about the club seems unlikely (at this point I offer a disclaimer should we win
both the FA Cup and the Chamnpions League) - on Sunday July 5, 2012, we will have gone seven
years and 76 days without winning a trophy.

At this point of the MISL season, it's safe to say that barring an unprecedented collapse by one or
both teams, the Milwaukee Wave and Baltimore Blast will win their respective divisions. While it's
no surprise that either of these teams will likely be the top seed in their respective semifinal
playoff match ups, the biggest shocker may be that the race for the top spot in each division has
virtually been secured this early in the season.

Assistant Kevin Bond was giving little away in terms of team news yesterday while he did confirm
that there were injury doubts over Scott Parker, Younes Kaboul and Gareth Bale,
"Younes missed training on Wednesday, while both Gareth and Scotty had to come out of training
early with slight muscle problems," he said.
On the eve of one of the more important matches of the season for Real Madrid, manager Jose
Mourinho is making headlines again for all the wrong reasons.
According to reports out of Spain, Mourinho is letting it be known that he wants out of Madrid
at the end of this season, which would be two years into his four-year contract with the club.

That's according to Sky sources, who understand that the ex-Arsenal captain is on his
way back to North London and is set to sign a 2-month loan deal with The Gunners. The deal is
expected to be announced within the next 48 hours.
