For people who come from other parts of the country, particularly in the Football
League-saturated midlands and north-west of England, it might be hard to grasp the peculiar
mentality which comes of supporting Brighton and Hove Albion. Their geographical catchment area is
the envy of almost any of their rivals you could care to mention, having been the sole League
representative for the county of Sussex for over 90 years.
The collective hangover had barely cleared on Wednesday morning before Brighton and Hove Albion —
and their manager Gus Poyet — were preparing for the dawn of a new era.

Spanning our coverage to three divisions would always present problems when deciding upon this
season's best team. Just as the WBA, IBF and WBC versions of international boxing competed for
eminence in the 1980s, Queen's Park Rangers, Chesterfield and Brighton and Hove Albion possess
equal claims to be the top canines thirty or so years on.

The cheeky rascal builders working on Brighton and Hove Albion's new, 22,300-seater Falmer
Stadium pulled a fast one when installing the seating, modifying the club's seagull logo with a few
carefully placed white seats...
Sadly, the guano-based prank didn't last long, with a Brighton spokesman confirming that ‘a
clean-up operation has taken place and the seats have been re-arranged to show the seagull in
flight'.

Brighton & Hove Albion played Doncaster Rovers in the last ever game at the Goldstone Ground. Fast
forward to the present day, and they were at it again - for the first ever league game at The
American Express Community Stadium.
Brighton & Hove Albion v Crystal Palace - The thoughts of Kevin Day.... Brighton entertain their
fiercest rivals Crystal Palace tomorrow for the first time in six years. European Football Weekends
has one foot in the Brighton camp. On the other side of the fence is Match of the Day 2 regular,
Kevin Day.

Ever since Charles Alcock (no jokes from us on that name, EFW is a family publication and
remains strictly above the waist) suggested on 20 July 1871: ‘That it is desirable that a
Challenge Cup should be established in connection with The Association, for which all clubs
belonging to The Association should be invited to compete', the great and good of the footie world
have been up for the cup.
The Seagulls That Kicked The Hornets' NestWatford 0-1 Brighton (29:01:11)It was so nice of Southern Rail to get in on the act. They chose to celebrate the Seagulls
progression into the 4th round of the FA Cup proper by laying on a fleet of (Gus) buses to ferry
3,649 Brighton fans to Vicarage Road.

it was soon time to pack away (for the time being) the silver foil FA Cup trophy and get back to
matters of a more serious nature.

Good Bobby Joe, pardon me;
Though I am bound to every match of football,
I am not bound to that which even slaves are free to.
Seagulls are the Bee's Knees Brentford 0-1 Brighton (08:03:11) We sent roving reporter Nick Goodwin
to Brentford to watch the mighty Albion.... Since EFW's last League 1 outing in February, Brighton
and Hove Tika Taka FC have notched up five league wins, scoring four goals in four of those games
to boot.
My Favourite Ever Goal Tonight at Griffin Park, Brighton and Hove Albion will trot out onto the
pitch to try and maintain their push for promotion into the Championship. For myself, and I suspect
2,000 other Brighton fans that were there that day, a trip to Brentford will always evoke memories
of an FA Cup tie in 1987 and that goal, my favourite ever goal.

County Stamp Out Relegation Threat Notts County 1-1 Brighton (07:05:11) A warm welcome back to
Brighton fan and all-round genius David Hartrick.... Okay, I suppose we better address the EFW
match-report shaped elephant in the room. My last article from the Oldham vrs Brighton game this
season may have contained one or two factual errors.

It'll be all-white on the night With Brighton's stadium due to be completed for the start of the
new season, you might have thought that the builders would be working flat out to get things
finished. Not a bit of it. Instead, workmen added a few white seats below the club's logo so that

American Beauty Brighton & Hove Albion 2-3 Tottenham Hotspur (30-07-11) Brighton's new stadium is
landmark architecture, designed to inspire. Premier League calibre. Beautiful inside. A mansion for

years to be precise - to see Brighton play in a "proper" home stadium again that I promised myself

Regular readers of this site will be all too aware of the recent problems that have beset
Plymouth Argyle Football Club. Plymouth's supporters, in conjunction with whose of Brighton & Hove
Albion, are now planning a protest on the twenty-fourth of September to which supporters of all
clubs will be welcome.
Things went horribly, horribly wrong on Sunday, but we've already covered that. Perhaps it
doesn't come as a huge surprise, though, that a lot of the places that talk Liverpool have gone a
touch quiet following their obligatory (and rather depressed) match reviews in the wake of Sunday's
sad showing at Spurs.

All of a sudden, the Carling Cup trip to Brighton and Hove Albion looks a great deal more important
than it once did.
Liverpool will of course be desperate to stay in the hunt for silverware this season, especially
with no European football on offer.
But equally importantly, it is a chance to produce an immediate reaction to two disappointing
league results.
Brighton's new Falmer Stadium... Liverpool travel to the home of the seagulls tomorrow for their
league cup fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion. Promoted from league one last season, the
seaside club are finding themselves in a bit of good form. The Reds on the other hand will be
looking to quickly forget about their embarrassing defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on the
weekend and

Kenny Dalglish said he was going to field a strong side for tonight's match against Brighton and
Hove Albion and he's certainly not picked a weak one. Injuries and suspensions meant he would have
to make at least three changes – Daniel Agger is injured with Martin Skrtel and Charlie Adam
suspended – but he's also made a couple of further changes.

Liverpool came out firing, looking to put doubts to rest in the wake of Sunday's shambolic visit
to White Hart Lane—or, for the players who had been left out against Tottenham, perhaps
attempting to show the manager that they were more deserving of starting roles.
All is not lost as Brighton find a way forward under Poyet
Ultimately they lost, but it can no longer be said of Brighton and Hove Albion that they are
lost. Two years ago this week the Seagulls were 19th in League One.

Bellamy scores his first goal back in a Liverpool shirt... It was end to end stuff last night in
Brighton as Gus Poyet's boys looked to cause an upset for Liverpool. An inspired performance from
Brighton was threatening to take the game from the Reds on several occasions but in the end the
home side had to settle for a consolation goal from the penalty spot.

Former Manchester United and Leeds defender Gordon McQueen (59) has been
diagnosed with Cancer of the Larynx and will have treatment at the James Cook University Hospital

In the last week, both Steve Harper and Peter Lovenkrands have made very strong suggestions that
their days at Newcastle United are numbered. Firstly, speaking in an interview with Brighton and
Hove Albion's website, and also in the club's match programme, currently on loan goalkeeper, Steve
Harper, has once again become weary of his peripheral [.
Liverpool has always been concerned with tradition, and they have good reason.
The history behind their multiple European Cup wins and the tragedy of Hillsborough among other
notable events means the club will always be highly thought of.
The club's relationship with the League Cup, not always a competition held in the highest regard,
has led to Kenny Dalglish fielding his strongest team this term, despite the inferior opposition.

Brighton and Hove Albion are facing an uncertain future as the Goldstone Ground has been sold as a
result of an asset strip from a board led by a man with little to no regard for the club.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish says the club is delighted with the recovery of captain Steven
Gerrard, but are refusing to put a date on his return.
The 31-year-old has been ruled out of the weekend's visit of Manchester City after being blighted
by injury problems this season, having made just five appearances for the Reds.
