So, Bobby Zamora. He used to be shit, now he's not. Quite a transformation for
the ex-Brighton and Spurs striker. Uncle Woy Hodgson seems to have got the best out of Row Z, but
could Capello do the same?
Liam Bridcutt is another of those young players who have tried to make the break through at Chelsea
but never really made any sort of break through. Farmed out on loan during the later years at
Chelsea, Bridcutt was eventually released from the club this Summer.
Bridcutt tried to sort out a deal with another club after he was released but came into problems
for one reason or another.

Chelsea have this morning begun their search for a new assistant manager after abruptly
dismissing Ray Wilkins from his post during half-time of a reserve team game
yesterday.
A few candidates are being suggested by various sources but one name that keeps cropping up
again and again is that of Blues legend Gianfranco Zola, who has been out of work
since having his contract terminated by West Ham back in May although whether he'd be willing to
make the 'step down' to assistant may be a sticking point.
Giant overcoats In the past we have mocked Arsene Wenger and his knee-length puffa. We just assumed
it was the longest coat in football. That was until we spotted Gus Poyet's dugout attire for
Brighton's match against Huddersfield last weekend. The ex-Chelsea man wore the first bit of gear
we have seen that could truly [.
Kazenga LuaLua has hinted today he is not too happy with his current situation at St. James' Park.
Kazenga LuaLua time to leave Newcastle? The 19-year-old winger is now on loan at League One side
Brighton, and the youngster has not come through this season, as many had believed he would, for
whatever reason.
You've see the film The Damned United, or read the book by David Peace that inspired it. The
question that remains is, to what extent has the outspoken, charismatic and often times hilarious
manager left a lasting impression on you?
For me, Clough embodies what I think of when I imagine English football in the 60's and 70's and
he remains a true legend in the game.
Football games on consoles. FIFA vs Pro Evolution Soccer. There was a time when it was all so
much easier than it is now. EA Sports had spent all of the money for FIFA on the licences and
seemed to have very little left over for the game itself. Konami, on the other hand, knew that with
Pro Evolution Soccer, if you wanted something that felt like the real thing, you would put up with
Merseyside Blue playing against Connaught.
Darragh Ryan, formerly of Brighton and St Patrick's Athletic has joined Stevenage Borough on a
non contract basis until the end of the season. He is a left sided defender who can play both in
the centre or on the left and is boss Graham Westley's first signing of the January transfer
window.
Not a game that will live long in anyone's memory, but it's nice to feature teams outside the
Prem and the Championship for once. The stalemate result means both sides remain in the relegation
zone in League One. Of the two, Tranmere look in worse trouble, some four points from safety and
with a -22 goal difference only Wycombe and Stockport, the two sides below Rovers in the table,
have a worse goal difference.
Still not enough US players in action to get us back to our star system, but Brad Guzan got the
best result of the weekend in the FA Cup, backstopping Aston Villa to a 3-2 win over Brighton at
Villa Park. Villa seemed in control when they took a 3-1 lead through Fabian Delph in the
63rd-minute. Brighton's Nicky Forster scored in stoppage time to come within one, but that was it
for the offense.
My word, it's cold in Suffolk. Brighton, and, indeed, London, were positively balmy by
comparison. There is, however, still a light dusting of snow on the ground in the more rural
corners of the county, leaving a little bit of doubt over whether this match will actually go
ahead. Bury Town rather need it to.
Gary O'Reilly is a former defender for Spur, Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion who now
works as a commentator with TWI. He joined Kartik Krishnaiyer earlier this week, when he was
interviewed for this edition of the EPL Talk Podcast.
Don't forget that the EPL Talk Podcast is the only Premier League interview and analysis podcast
available for free.
There is something strangely appealing about a really bad pitch. In an age in which so many
aspects of football seem to be so sanitised, there is something quite comforting a pitch with
puddles on it or one that is completely and utterly devoid of grass. Colchester United have only
been at The Community Stadium for a couple of years, but the pitch there is in a ruinous condition
already.
Surely there is nothing to worry about regarding the future of Graham Westley is there? The Boro
manager's contract expires at the end of June and talks will begin this week about next season and
the possible extension of that deal. Westley was quiet about his situation when he was asked by the
media after the Trophy final against Barrow, but did confirm that he will meet with the chairman
this week and will go from there.
Do you think Southend is one of the best places to take a vacation? Is it a friendly place to be?
Would you consider our resort to be welcoming to visitors - whether they be day trippers or short
stay holidaymakers?
Well a survey out today suggests Southend is the 8th most "holiday friendly" destination in the UK.
With all eyes previously on Capello & Co, the national team's Bloemfontein humbling has been
something of a catalyst for the start of the new 2010/11 Football League season. Weeks gone by
have generated next to no news for those of us more interested in what's going on at Crewe or
Watford than seeing James Corden wriggle his way into Jermaine Defoe's affection, but these past
seven days have
Chris Hughton is still considering letting some of his talented youngsters out on loan next
season, to get first-team experience. Nile Ranger - on loan next season? It appears that Leeds and
Carlisle are keen on 19 year-old Nile Ranger, while Burnley wanted goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

I've started tweeting in earnest over the past few days, and while I can't deny that it has plenty

I tell y'what, when I see all these people, Mums and Dads and their young uns running around

The curtain raiser for the start of the season will take place tomorrow, the Community
Shield will be fought out by Premier League kingpins Manchester United and Chelsea at the much
criticisedWembleyStadium.
Here's a look at the Community Shield by numbers.
After weeks of trialists, it seems that Graham Westley has finally found his man. Chris Holroyd
is the striker that the Boro boss hopes will be able to fire the Conference champions back up the
League 2 table. The Argus reports that Holroyd is set to sign for Stevenage on a 3 month loan deal
and that it should be finalised by Thursday evening.
Tim Sills: Rushden bound
It's been a busy day at Broadhall Way. It's almost like they've just found out how to put news
on the new site and it's all come at once. First came the confirmation of Chris Holroyd's loan
move that broke yesterday afternoon via Brighton's local paper. Holroyd has signed a 3 month deal
until Boxing Day and is in line to make his debut at Lincoln tomorrow.
Just a quick post as I don't get home until tomorrow. A more detailed report and some pictures
will be uploaded tomorrow evening.
Chris Holroyd's debut goal was enough to give Stevenage their first away win of the season. Boro
were solid at the back, dangerous going forward and totally deserved their victory.

Had most people in Britain cupped their ears in a southwardly direction at just before five
o'clock on Saturday afternoon, they would have heard the faint sound of cheering coming from the
Withdean stadium in Brighton. In the midst of a desperate, crazy goalmouth scramble, six minutes
into injury time at the end of a match between Brighton & Hove Albion and Oldham Athletic which was
deadlocked at 1-1, Francisco Sandaza, whose previous career exploits had seen him play for
Valencia's 'B' team and Dundee United, bundled the ball over the line to win the match for Brighton
and send the Seagulls to the top of the League One table.
The 19 year-old winger, on loan from Newcastle United through early January, hit home his second
goal of the season for Brighton at home, against bottom of the table Brentford, last night. Kazenga

Chris Holroyd
You may or may not have heard that your on loan striker Chris Holroyd has taken League 2 by
storm since joining Stevenage a week ago. Unfortunately, I can confirm that this isn't true and
that the goals he is "alleged" to have scored were in fact scored by Peter Vincenti.
I know that you wanted Chris to come here and get his confidence back after a bit of a lean
spell at Brighton, so we thought we would give Chris the credit for some of the goals we scored,
even though he didn't score them himself.
Kazenga LuaLua has scored for Brighton against the MK Dons and Brentford so far in his loan spell.

The choice of which game to cover didn't take long this week. Reduced to picking a match from
Leagues 1 and 2 because of another tiresome international break (which unfortunately hasn't put a
stop to more inane Liverpool takeover talk), the Sky-televised contest between Brighton and
Bournemouth at the Withdean was an easy pick, not least because I'll probably be watching it.

With the Wayne Rooney shitstorm battering us all into submission, how about we retreat to League
One to enjoy the relative calm of some honest football, in the form of pics of Brighton's big win
at The Valley. We'll be safe there.
Gus Poyet is doing a brilliant job at Brighton: to thrash a Charlton side that previously was
undefeated at home this season is a brilliant result and one that keeps the Albion firmly on top of
the table.
The 19-year-old Congolese-English winger has been on loan at League One side Brighton & Hove Albion
since September. He has four goals and three assists.
In the nine games Kazenga LuaLua has competed in, Brighton has six wins and three draws.
Will a call-up into England's youth squads be upcoming or will LuaLua play for his African birth
nation?
Loans are all about exposure - whether it be an ageing or currently overlooked professional
reminding other clubs of his existence and attributes or a talented but raw youngster handed the
opportunity to gain valuable competitive experience. The three loanees we (Newcastle) have sent out
this season have all been of the latter variety, and to say they've enjoyed mixed fortunes would be
an
This weekend sees us reach the First Round Proper stage of the FA Cup. Over 40,000 people turned
out to watch the Fourth Qualifying Round matches, and there will be plenty of stories waiting to be
written over the next few days. For our part, we'll be reporting on the matches between Rochdale
and FC United of Manchester, Brighton & Hove Albion and Woking, and Southport and Sheffield
Wednesday.
The dark clouds on the horizon look threatening and not just in the sense that, in the uncovered
South Stand at the Withdean Stadium, we're going the get soaked to the skin at some point this
afternoon. Ticket prices have been cut to just ten pounds and this has pushed the crowd for this
match up to almost 6,000, but the nagging suspicion is that only the 900 or so Woking supporters
away to our right are the only ones that really want to be here this afternoon.
We're returning this week to a theme that we touched on a couple of weeks ago, with highlights
from some of the matches played in the non-league game over the last few days. We kick off with a
top of the table local derby from the Ryman League Premier Division that was played last Tuesday
night between Sutton United and Kingstonian.
