Overall Chelsea didn't play that well against Marseille (twas a classic 6/10 display), but even
without Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard they were much too strong for the Ligue 1 side. French
youngster Gael Kakuta caught the eye with a lively performance shame he was taken off midway
through the second half; I wanted to see more, but by then Marseille were threatening to score and
Ancelotti wanted to consolidate his side's 2-0 lead.

You've got to hand it to Chelsea.
Four games, four wins. They've been incredible. Before Scott Parker's lovely effort on Saturday,
the last time Chelsea's rearguard was pierced in the Premier League was way back when Gareth Bale
blew last season's title race wide open at the end of April.

Jay DeMerit's search for a club has taken yet another turn.
Canadian Newspaper reports claim that the expansion Vancouver Whitecaps have joined the race for
the USMNT defender's signature. The reports claim that DeMerit and the Whitecaps have been in
conversations, but there is still a "significant distance to bridge.
The Ultimate Football BlogEditorialWell, I must say I got it wrong last week. I claimed that Chelsea were only winning games so
convincingly because teams were lying down and dying before they even stepped on to the pitch to
play the Blues. In fact, some teams last 72 seconds before collapsing.
I was able to get some shots of the stadium construction last Friday. More shots here...More and
more glass going in...Looking across the stadium...Bridge and supporters section...Looking down
from the bridge at the supporters section...Stage end...West side stands and roof...The east side
stands...The roof in front of the suites.
I talked with David Ficklin (OnGoal Vice President of Development) for a few minutes on Friday. I
asked him about the status of the stadium construction and the meaning of the phrase "the First
Authentic American Soccer Stadium" that is used to describe the stadium. Ficklin
interview...Standing on the "bridge" over the supporters section.
Chelsea went down fighting to Newcastle United in one of those classic matches that only a
competition as irrelevant as the Carling Cup can provide. The Toon deservedly won the game 4-3 in
what was the most pulsating encounter at the Bridge this season.
Let's get the negatives out of the way first.
As reported this morning and yet to be officially confirmed by Chelsea, Frank Lampard is OUT of
tomorrow's game against Manchester City. The Independant are running an article that
states Lampard has suffered a setback in his recovery from his Hernia operation and will miss the
big clash at Eastlands and possibly Arsenal at the Bridge next week.
There are some players who are just meant to stay with a certain club all through out their
career. The thought of them leaving, is well, just unthinkable. We have seen it in the past with
Shevchenko, Henry and most recently Kaka where these players after leaving failed to make an impact
in their new clubs.
We can all laugh about it now that it's over. And we've got the three points.
A sometimes exhilarating, mostly flaccid 2-0 win for the Chels over I'OM at the Bridge on
Wednesday. So, that's two Champions League group games two wins.
It wasn't exactly HD viewing.
