MLS is scheduled to release the 2012 schedule today at 2pm. We'll post the Union schedule as
soon as it is available.
Who will the Union play in their home opener? After using some logic based on what schedule
details are already known (the Union open the season at Portland on March 12, play in Chicago on
March 24, play in Toronto on May 26 and September 15 while playing host to Toronto on July 7), The
Goalkeeper writes, "I would not be surprised if it is against the New York Red Bulls, the Houston
Dynamo or David Beckham's Los Angeles Galaxy.
The blog that follows UVA sports, Streaking the Lawn, is reporting that Virginia sophomore
winger Brian "Cobi" Span signed a contract today with Djurgarden IF of Sweden's
top flight, Allsvenkan.

According to Ives Galarcap of Fox Soccer, Span is ranked as the 7th best player on
the 2012 MLS Draft Big Board.

In Goal.com's survey of the Eastern Conference there is this review of the the Union's 2011

I know I've been slacking on my college coverage as of late. But have no fear, my SuperDraft
items will really start to kick up in the coming weeks with the start of the NCAA tournament next
week.
The past several weeks have seen Reading eliminated by fellow Union-affiliate club Harrisburg
City Islanders from US Open Cup as well as lose their first Mid-Atlantic conference game to the
Long Island Rough Riders. After dropping two straight matches, Reading regained momentum and
rattled off three straights wins to reclaim the top spot in the division.
Reading United's win over Ocean City Nor'easters on Friday night put them in the US Open Cup. In
the four games the team had played up to that point, Reading has outscored their opponents 15 goals
to 3.
Westchester Flames
Reading United remained in the top spot in the the Mid-Atlantic Division with a dominating 4-1
victory over the Westchester Flames Wednesday night at City Park Stadium.
Union
Apparently the article in the Daily News by Kerith Gabriel we linked to yesterday about the Real
Madrid friendly was yanked for breaking some kind of an embargo. So now there is this article in
the Daily News by Kerith Gabriel saying the same thing: the Union will play Real Madrid on July 23
at the Linc.
