Supplemental Draft

The MLS Supplemental Draft takes place at 2pm ET today. There is plenty of talent available this year since the SuperDraft was shortened to two rounds. The Union have the 13th selection.

Local club Reading United AC have five players near the top of the Supplemental Draft class: UPenn midfielder Christian Barreiro, Delaware winger Evans Frimpong, Virginia forward Brian Ownby, West Virginia defender Eric Schoenle and Creighton keeper Brian Holt.

Reading United fans may have noticed the absence of Brian Ownby in the team's 5-1 victory of the Central Jersey Spartans. Ownby, along with Reading and University of Virginia teammate Will Bates, is currently on a 10-day trial with Swedish team Mjällby. Apparently the article in the Daily News by Kerith Gabriel we linked to yesterday about the Real Madrid friendly was yanked for breaking some kind of an embargo. So now there is this article in the Daily News by Kerith Gabriel saying the same thing: the Union will play Real Madrid on July 23 at the Linc.
