When Major League Soccer teams make their draft picks in Thursday's amateur draft, several
players with local ties are sure to go off the board. You may not have three former Reading United
players go off the board in the first round, as happened last year when that burgeoning soccer
factory churned out C.
The blog that follows UVA sports, Streaking the Lawn, is reporting that Virginia sophomore
winger Brian "Cobi" Span signed a contract today with Djurgarden IF of Sweden's
top flight, Allsvenkan.
Streaking the Lawn | UVA Soccer Standout Brian "Cobi" Span Signs With Djurgarden IF of Sweden

The past several weeks have seen Reading eliminated by fellow Union-affiliate club Harrisburg
City Islanders from US Open Cup as well as lose their first Mid-Atlantic conference game to the
Long Island Rough Riders. After dropping two straight matches, Reading regained momentum and
rattled off three straights wins to reclaim the top spot in the division.
Reading United fans may have noticed the absence of Brian Ownby in the team's 5-1 victory of the
Central Jersey Spartans. Ownby, along with Reading and University of Virginia teammate Will Bates,
is currently on a 10-day trial with Swedish team Mjällby. Mjällby plays in Sweden's first
division, the Allsvenskan, and currently sits in thirteenth place in the standings.
Reading United's win over Ocean City Nor'easters on Friday night put them in the US Open Cup. In
the four games the team had played up to that point, Reading has outscored their opponents 15 goals
to 3.
Westchester Flames
Reading United remained in the top spot in the the Mid-Atlantic Division with a dominating 4-1
victory over the Westchester Flames Wednesday night at City Park Stadium.
Union
Apparently the article in the Daily News by Kerith Gabriel we linked to yesterday about the Real
Madrid friendly was yanked for breaking some kind of an embargo. So now there is this article in
the Daily News by Kerith Gabriel saying the same thing: the Union will play Real Madrid on July 23
at the Linc.
