The defending champions Houston Dynamo are losing strikers left and right. Paul Daglish was
released at the end of last year. Nate Jaqua is supposedly looking for a job in Austria and it
was just announced that Joseph Ngwenya is on his way to Austria.
Ngwenya has just signed a deal with SK Austria and keeps him there until the end of the current
Austrian season with an option to add another full season.
Yesterday I posted about what the Wizards would do with the number 1 pick in the draft tomorrow.
Included in that list of things, was to trade it again for another player and/or pick. According to
Ives, Houston was also interested in acquiring the number one pick from San Jose before the Wizards
beat them to it.
Ives Galarcep on Soccer by Ives is reporting that Dynamo are actively trying to trade up for
tomorrow's SuperDraft to get a shot at Texans FC player Brek Shea, a left winger. Shea, pictured,
an 18-year-old from College Station, is a Generation Adidas player who apparently has already
expressed his desire to play for Dynamo.
Congrats to the Dynamo, who knocked off defending SuperLiga champ Pachuca last night, 2-0 at
Robertson stadium in Houston. Pat Onstad stood on his head early in the second half, blocking many
point-blank scoring opportunities by the Tuzos. Pachuca had an goal called back due to offside in
the 60th minute, and former scum Bobby Boswell knocked in a bouncing ball of a corner kick in the
77th to give Houston the lead.
CD Guadalajara 2 - DC United 1
Omar Arellano and Gonzalo Pineda scored for CD Guadalajara to get the winning started for the
Mexican Primera División side last night at RFK Stadium.
Luciano Emilio slotted home in the 76th for United and DCU looked to draw even one minute later but
Jaime Moreno's penalty kick was saved by goalie Luis Michael.
OK, so ..... a very short entry today and sadly none tomorrow, as I
have to go out of town on short notice for some family business. Just read the other Designated
Players sites for all the updates. See ya next week.
FC Dallas has sold midfielder Juan Toja to Steaua Bucharest in Hungary.
Brian McBride is all set to join Chicago when he returns from the Olympics. Chicago paid cash, a
draft pick and forward Chad Barrett to Toronto for the rights to McBride. Did they pay too much? I
don't think so.

If you watched the Dallas v LA game last night you may have noticed FCD forward Kenny Cooper
grabbing the game ball after full time had been called.
So I really am tickled pink that Dynamo has resigned Brian Mullan, their 2007 co-MVP. (Story here
and Dynamo's press release here.) I expected no less for the guy that makes the right side go. My
friend and fellow prawn-sandwicher Dimitri even goes so far as to say that as Mullan goes, so goes
Dynamo.
Carlos Bocanegra to Rennes in France? Sporting Life reports that L'equipe of France says
so.

Germany are the first team to advance to the Semifinals of Euro 2008. See details in the Euro

Matches & Scores:
-Wed Jun 18
New England 1-1 New York - NER goal by Steve Ralston.
The 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup begins tomorrow for MLS teams. Eight qualifiers will take on
eight lower league clubs in what is always one of the single most exciting days of the season. Last
year was not the greatest year for MLS in the tournament, as only 3/8 teams advanced. One of those
3, the Rapids, then lost 5-0 in the quarterfinals to Seattle.
This was the first non-Open-Cup game of the season that I didn't see either in person or on tv, and
that's probably a good one. Because aside from maybe the match at RSL early in the year, this was
easily DC's worst performance yet. I should have taken the Fullback approach and prepped for this
game with some red wine, or better yet, I should have been taking in the game with my arch nemesis
Jose.
The game that seemed like it would never be played finally was played last Wednesday and the
result left you wondering whether D.C. United got tired of waiting.
Houston man-handled D.C., 2-0, at RFK Stadium in a game that had been postponed twice and
was delayed for hours on the night it was finally completed.
I am very excited to see Houston & Pachuca battle it out once again. This time in the SuperLiga
semifinals! Every time these two teams meet it's a masterpiece of a game! Oh Yeah!

The frustratingly talented Arturo Alvarez has been sold by FC Dallas to San Jose. The
Earthquakes also gave up a future draft pick in the deal.
This is the Houston Dynamo we've been waiting to see.
The two-time MLS champions got off to a terrible start to the season but Houston is hitting its stride now, as evidenced by its 4-1-1 stretch in its past six MLS matches. The latest victory came against a short-handed TFC squad that is having some struggles after its own good run of form.

SECOND HALF: Really ho-hum especially after the outstanding goal by Brian Mullan that pushed the
Houston lead to 4-0. Rico Clark looked comfortable sliding up into the central midfield role in the
second half and Mullan and and Brad Davis showed some great understanding of each other as well, an
understanding that comes from playing [.
Abdusalam Ibrahim, the young Ethiopian boy from my town of Minneapolis, made his pro debut on
Saturday for Toronto. He came on at half time and did not disappoint, taking a great through ball
from Amado Guevara to beat the Chicago defense, then rounded keeper Jon Busch and put the ball into
an empty net.
Crew 0, Dynamo 2 Brad Davis(Brian Mullan) 13, Brian Ching(Nate Jaqua) 43 It's no fun to lose. I'm
most disappointed that the Crew drops to 1.6 Points Per Game, the same figure as Chicago. That's a
slide from 1.8 at the end of June. New England is at 1.9 PPG with two games in hand on [...]
