I just wanted to include a link and comment on this article by Kartik Krishnaiyer on the Major
League Soccer Talk blog about Sven Goran Eriksson's early success with the Mexican national team
and how the U.S. National Team could learn from that. I essentially agree that Eriksson has done a
good job with Mexico and that I too was somewhat skeptical about this appointment when it was made.
Paris was practically at their doorstep when Brian McBride and his family lived in England. The
rest of Europe, too. Now there are cousins next door, with more just down the street. McBride's
brother lives nearby, and wife Dina can make it to the home of pretty much anyone in her family
within 10 minutes.

One team is in desperate need of some offensive help while the other team might just be raising
the white flag.
That's one way to look at the Colorado Rapids trading of forward Herculez Gomez to Kansas City
for allocation money and draft picks (4th rounder and 1st round supplemental in '09).
Tonight the Galaxy tries to keep its flickering post-season hopes alive in a must-win showdown
in Bridgeview, IL against the Chicago Fire. Chicago has been struggling of late, losing the last
two games by a combined score of 6-1, but the legendarily leaky Galaxy defense might be just what
they need to get back on their game.
Here is an excellent article from Kartik Krishnaiyer on the MLS Talk blog that goes through the
differences between the managing styles of Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley, and also provides some
interesting thoughts on the recent callups that Bob Bradley has made for the U.S. National Team.
For the most part, I agree with Kartik's column, but I disagree with the comments he made about
Clint Dempsey.
Nick at We Want Rapid Man takes a look at Bouna's situation. The Denver Post also covers it here.
It looks to be headed down the same path that lead Herculez Gomez to Kansas City. Will things turn
around? Will we see Bouna in nets for the Rapids again? Or could we see him traded to a team
looking for a goalkeeper?
ESPN2 will be all Chi-town down tonight when the Galaxy comes to town to finally give us the
Becks-Landon-Lewis vs. Blanco-McBride-Mapp match that we missed out on a few weeks back. Even
though both teams haven't exactly been pissing excellence as of late (LA's result against D.C.
aside) I'm more excited to watch this than any of the CONCACAF Champions League games/ass-whippings
that were on this week.
After watching the Fire get dismantled by Dallas last Sunday I decided that it would be better
if I forgot about the game completely and not write about it. So with that being said lets move on
to the next game which happens to be tonight against everyones favorite team to make fun of: The LA
Galaxy.
Toronto FC has signed forward Chad Barrett to a four-year extension, club officials announced
Wednesday. Barrett was brought in by Toronto on July 27th as part of the deal that sent Brian
McBride's rights to the Chicago Fire; Toronto also received a 2009 first-round draft pick and
conditional future considerations in the trade.
The Fire come into this game on the back of their worst performance of the season against
Colorado last weekend. With the playoff's just around the corner this is not the time to be in a
slump and the Fire will be looking to do that against a Dallas team that if fighting for their
playoff lives. Perhaps the most surprising and disappointing thing for the Fire has been their poor
performances at home.
Admit it. You wrote off the Los Angeles Galaxy, didn't you?
Bruce Arena took over too late to fix the problems this season, you figured.
David Beckham is worn down from too much travel, and Landon
Donovan can't do it alone. You're not even sure who's playing in goal for the Galaxy now
-- the young prospect is hurt, the guy with the big hair didn't look so hot, and they just called
up this guy from the USL.
A Lesson in hardwork, humility and respect. It's only appropriate on a holiday designed to give
"the working citizen a day off", to recognize two of the hardest workers in MLS. So
here's a tip of the hat to Brian McBride and Ben Olsen. According to Fulham's manager,"Brian
McBride has been a fine ambassador for Fulham Football Club.
Wednesday's World Cup qualifying went well for ...:
- The CONCACAF power elite. The USA, Mexico and Costa Rica have a maximum 27
points from nine games. Goal difference is +20. (Standings)
- Central America over the Caribbean. Guatemala crushed Cuba and is now ahead
of Trinidad and Tobago on goal difference.
1. Why Are We Here Again?
Not an existentialist query, just a plea for confirmation.
Jesus, what a couple of weeks.
Managers being sacked, speculation swirling around Upton Park, well-dressed Italians consolidating
their influence, the mutated offspring of once-dead court cases rising from the grave, West Ham
scoring freely at home with good football and the US Government stalling over a $700billion package
to move Wall St in it's entirity to Jerusalem where Paul McCartney plans to symbolically batter it
down with his ex-wife's prosthetic leg whilst singing 'Give Peace A Chance'.
The Colorado Rapids look a very settled team. Something has happened since the
coaching change and the Rapids finally look like they have a rhythm and the personnel to keep that
rhythm going all the way to the playoffs. The team emerged victorious yesterday, dousing the
Chicago Fire with an own goal and a splendid individual effort by Omar Cummings, both goals coming
in the first half.
It was nice to see the Rapids pick up their 3 win in 5 games with Gary Smith in charge on Sunday.
The only other time the Rapids have gone into half-time with a 2-0 lead this year was the July 4th
game against New York Red Bull. That game was also at home at Dicks Sporting Goods Park.
With better finishing and possession against Chicago, the Rapids could have done more damage to
the league's best road team.
Hey all, we've teamed up with the Chicago Fire, Nothing But Nets and a few players you've probably
heard of for a cool ticket offer for the October 5 match. If you're not already a season ticket
holder, this is a great way to become one. If you are, this isn't a bad way to renew. Check out the
details below from the press release:
Kansas City Wizards Announce All-Star Autograph Experience for October 5 Match Against Chicago
Fire
(September 19, 2008) – The Kansas City Wizards announced Friday an exciting post-game
opportunity and ticket package for their October 5 match against the Chicago Fire.
Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan has been chosen as MLS Player of the Week for his
three-goal, one-assist performance in the Galaxy's 5-2 win over D.C. United this past Saturday. It
is the fourth time this season that Donovan has earned the award and the ninth time in his
career.Donovan's stellar performance propelled the Galaxy to a much-needed victory - the first of
Bruce Arena's tenure with the club - that helps keep LA in the hunt for the eighth and final
playoff spot.
Ok all, I wanted to answer a question posed as a comment yesterday on the reserve recap from the
Toronto match. Someone asked if fans will be able to stick around after the Chicago Fire match and
watch as our reserves look to improve upon their 6-1-2 record. The answer is yes, please stay. We
will be keeping at least a couple of concession stands open and would very much like for fans to
stay and watch the reserve squad.
