No Cooper. No Adu. No Altidore. Really? To the disappointment of many
American fans (myself included), Bob Bradley continues to call up players like Brian Ching, Eddie
Johnson, Frankie Hejduk, and Eddie Lewis over younger players. The most common excuse given
by supporters of Bradley's strategy is the experience argument.

Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey y Brian Ching anotaron para las barras y estrellas.
Another away qualifier, another dimly-lit stadium, another ugly performance against a weak
opponent...another three points! Despite struggling in their first two away qualifiers of the group
stage, the USMNT will return home with a pair of 1-0 victories to show for their efforts.
This time, it was a Clint Dempsey goal (from the run of play!
Eddie Johnson and Brian Ching celebrate a goal against Barbados, the only game which
a current US striker has scored a goal in the last 14 months for the national
team.
Bob Bradley's tenure as United States National Team manager has gone about as well as can be
expected: A CONCACAF Gold triumph, several victories in the "old world" and thus far a
smooth run in qualifying including an elusive win over Guatemala.
Here is an excellent article from Kartik Krishnaiyer on the MLS Talk blog that goes through the
differences between the managing styles of Bruce Arena and Bob Bradley, and also provides some
interesting thoughts on the recent callups that Bob Bradley has made for the U.S. National Team.
For the most part, I agree with Kartik's column, but I disagree with the comments he made about
Clint Dempsey.
The U.S. beat a clearly out of their depth Trinidad & Tobago Wednesday night, taking advantage
of their opponents' obvious inexperience (and lack of leadership as ESPN commentator and former T&T
goalkeeper Shaka Hislop pointed out numerous times) to comfortably win 3-0 in Chicago.
Some observations:
*Neither Brian Ching nor Eddie Johnson were particularly convincing (again) at forward.
This post is only tangentially related to the Galaxy, because of the presence of Landon
Donovan in the US Men's National Team Player Pool. But I thought it would be fun to go
through the candidates for player of the year and see what Galaxy fans thought about the choices.
(I totally stole this idea from Luis Bueno over at Sideline Views who actually gets to cast a vote
that counts in his capacity as a member of the media.
What a relief to see a USMNT game with multiple goals. A good showing at home, and now that
we have 9 points in 3 games, I hope that Bob calls in some younger players. But before we get
into that, let's talk about T&T. MIDFIELDERS Huzzah for Michael Bradley! Finally an all
around strong game from [.
I just finished the new DVD from Major League Soccer and A&E Home Video titled, Game Breakers: The
Stars of Major League Soccer and I've got to tell ya, I was quite impressed.
The DVD was just released on August 26th and so – like Kramer in Seinfeld – that
practically makes me the premier!
So, in about six hours the US team will take on Trinidad and Tobago in first round World Cup
qualifying after tallying a wins in Cuba and Guatemala. A win tonight in Chicago would give the USA
nine points and all but assure a trip to the CONCACAF final six.
Not to disrespect T&T, who put forth a fine effort in the 2006 World Cup (nearly nicking a point
from England) but they aren't quite the same squad these days under Francisco Maturana.
The Wizards are back on the field on Sunday when they travel down to Houston to take on the Houston
Dynamo. KC has been busy the past couple days, adding two forwards to their roster by way of
trades. Both Herculez Gomez and Abe Thompson are going to be available for selection for the game
on Sunday.
The US men won big over Trinidad and Tobago in World Cup qualifying tonight. I plugged in to the TV
at the Marriott Renaissance club room and enjoyed a decent crowd of interested business
travelers.
The match itself was not exactly riveting, as the US made pretty easy work of a young T&T who were
missing Dwight Yorke.
Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey tallied early in the first half, and Brian Ching capped the
scoring in the second as the United States men's national team cruised to a 3-0 victory over
Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday night in...
I have to hand it to Bob Bradley and the U.S. National Team, they really came through and took care
of business with the 3-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago. We even got to see a goal from Brian Ching
so you know it was a terrific night. Clint Dempsey got his 4th goal in 4 matches. The defense
looked really solid and Michael Bradley took his European success and showed what the hype was all
about with a nice goal.
It was a breath of fresh air (literally) to be back in Chicago on Wednesday.
After months of humidity in the Southeast, the cool and dry air of the Windy City offered a welcome
respite. Since there is no viable public transport from downtown to Bridgeview, we were forced to
battle the rush-hour traffic out to the stadium.
Roy Keane talking about Jack Warner: "He's a clown." Oh yeah! I have had my problems
with Keane but this is priceless. See video in the Jack Warner/Sepp Blatter/FIFA Idiocy & Scandal
News section.

Luxembourg scored one of the great upsets of all time on Wednesday, beating Switzerland 1-2
Zurich.

Three points is three points I suppose. But tonight's game unlike last months qualifier in
Guatemala City has me very concerned about the state of play regarding the US Team. Against a side
that in its own stadium last month gave up three relatively quick goals to Trinidad and Tobago, the
US had to grind out a result again dependent on some clutch goalkeeping and quite frankly some
mistakes by the Cuban team.
Well Bruce is gone on some sort of bus trip so I'm here to give you a short USA vs. Trinidad and
Tobago World Cup 2010 Qualifier Preview. The USA come off a 1-0 win over Cuba that could have been
2 or 3 to nothing, but at the same time could have been 1-1 if not for Howard's heroics. Home
Crowd, Stats in our Favor The "workman like effort" the media saw in Cuba should surface
again today at Toyota Park.
Sporadic commentary will follow ...
USA lineup: GK Tim Howard, D Carlos Bocanegra, D Oguchi Onyewu, D Steve
Cherundolo, D Heath Pearce, M Clint Dempsey, M DaMarcus Beasley, M Michael Bradley, M Sacha
Kljestan, F Landon Donovan, F Brian Ching.
On the bench: GK Brad Guzan, D Frankie Hejduk, D Dan Califf, M Ricardo Clark, M Eddie Lewis, M
Maurice Edu, F Eddie Johnson
Not playing: D Michael Orozco, D Marvell Wynne
Not called in: M/F Freddy Adu, F Jozy Altidore, D Jimmy Conrad, etc.
I think many of us get really bored when ESPN feed us a steady Champions League diet of
Manchester United & Chelsea every round. But at least this week they are taking on two opponents
who are very worth taking a look at. Villarreal (sadly without Jozy Altidore who is not on their
group stage roster) and Bordeaux with Loren Blanc at the helm playing really great looking
football.
The storm blew and blew here at Nutmegged World Headquarters, and even though Dynamo will somehow
have to fit a rescheduled L.A. Firpo game into their criminally crowded fixture slate, Houston
still is surviving well.
Power is still out across most of the area, but the energy from Brian Ching's little "Hey,
we're responsible for the stars on your jersey as well as our own" performance as a late sub
in drawing even with the Bay Area Wanderers last weekend ought to power up Robertson all on its own
this weekend.
To highlight the sheer volume of players missing from action this weekend due to international
call-ups, here's a complete list of absences by game:
Chivas USA @ Toronto FC - 1 p.m. ET
TFC - Greg Sutton (Canada)
TFC - Jim Brennan (Canada)
TFC - Marvell Wynne (USA)
TFC - Carlos Ruiz (Guatemala)
TFC - Amado Guevara (Honduras)
TFC - Tyrone Marshall (Jamaica)
TFC - Julius James (Trinidad & Tobago)
TFC - Jarrod Smith (New Zealand)
TFC - Carl Robinson (Wales)
CHV - Sacha Kljestan (USA)
CHV - Shavar Thomas (Jamaica)
New England @ Columbus Crew - 7:30 p.
It was supposed to be some historic match, but it was just a 1-0 win.
Which is great. Three points on the road. Whoo.
Qualifying is all that matters right? Brian Ching knocks down a mistake by the Cuban defense
to Deuce, who buried a 12-yard shot.
That's all you need to know.
Not much to say here. A decent win at home against an overmatched opponent.
They're all overmatched. It'd be sad if the Americans don't sweep the semifinal stage.
Michael Bradley 9', Clint Dempsey 17' and Brian Ching 57'.
Six shutouts in a row is pretty impressive, considering one of those is against Argentina.
