For all the frustrations of the past season - missing the playoffs again, struggling offensively at
the wrong time, etc. - I thought the Columbus Crew fielded a pretty solid defense in 2007. It turns
out, however, the 44 goals they surrendered tied them for sixth in goals-against; middle of the
pack sounds all right, [.
Back from the little hiatus, time to get right back to it: Covering the Crew posted the latest full
roster for the 2008-vintage Columbus Crew. You can check the post for names, details, plus more.
I'll steal his roster layout to frame the discussion, but I won't borrow the commentary...that'll
come after [.
Last year Brian Carroll and Bobby Boswell lost their roles in the starting lineup (and
eventually their place in United's locker room) due to a drop in form. Many people couldn't figure
out why this happened, after Boswell had won the Defender Of The Year, and Carroll had been such an
important part of the last three seasons.
(*Which, if you think about it, could also serve as a Franco-phone alternative for "Crew Cat."

signed a new player...well, almost. Gino Padula came on board...or, rather, will once he gets his
visa situation sorted.
Look for a tough one in Houston tonight. It's hot in Texas. The Crew is missing Rogers and Ekpo for
the Olympics. Hejduk is out for yellow card accumulation. Lenhart is out 2 games for a flagrant
foul and red card. Last week's game against the Rapids was the first without Rogers and Ekpo. Sigi

US Soccer announced this morning that Bob Bradley has called in Chris Rolfe and Brian Carroll to
replace two players who suffered injuries in their Sunday matches, Robbie Rogers (sore back) and
Pablo Mastoeni (knee). It's a shame I was looking forward to seeing Rogers play. And I
was about as excited to see Mastroeni play [.
On May 25th, the Chicago Fire beat the Red Bulls 5-1 earn a spot at the top of the table, tied with
Columbus and New England. That bright spot came in the midst of a poor run for the Fire: It's their
