Flashforward

The Footbal Tragic 10 October @ 10:30 PM EST
The premise of Channel 7's new sci-fi series might not lie in the realms of fantasy after all. Last night, watching the Australia v. Netherlands game, I had a vivid premonition of how Pim Verbeek's side will approach games against superior (or even peer) opposition in South Africa next year.
Plenty of shuffling the ball across the back four. Click to continue reading...

Tim Cahill takes Ireland early – Ireland 0-3 Australia

goalpost.tv 13 August @ 02:30 AM EST
.

Thomond Park hosted Ireland and the Socceroos last night in a game that Ireland should have taken in their stride. Cahill got the Aussies in front after 38 mins. Giovanni Trapattoni had obviously given a good pre match speech because Ireland did give it all they had , but with so many premiership players on the pitch it was definitely a night of "Could have done better".

Ronald Koeman debuts as AZ coach with a cup! AZ won the 14th edition of the Johan Cruyff Trophee in the Amsterdam Arena, against cup winner Heerenveen. This is the first time AZ won the JC cup. Koeman's team led 3-0 after 30 minutes of play, goals by Aussie Brett Holman, Click to continue reading...

Beyond 2010

The Footbal Tragic 10 June @ 09:31 PM EST
Another clean sheet, another couple of goals, in a dead rubber, no less! Pim Verbeek can afford a little chortle of satisfaction.
And the Socceroo performance, on the whole, wasn't too bad. As in the Uzbekistan game at the same venue, Australia were languid and short of ideas in the first half, but became more cohesive and incisive as the game wore on. Click to continue reading...

Socceroos win, but which players impress?

Football in the Capital 10 June @ 07:29 AM EST
Socceroos win 2-0 with a comfortable victory over the ninety minutes.
David Carney scored, and the old faithful Mile Sterjovski popped one in.
We have maybe 50 plus players fighting to get on that plane, over the next twelve months, and Australian players will be doing their utmost to get in the 23. Click to continue reading...

Welcome home Australians

Football in the Capital 28 April @ 06:29 AM EST
Welsh...you're joking, Greek..me never, Scottish...not after last weeks results in the World Cup.
Guess who is going to the World Cup in 2010..Australia...and suddenly Rhys Williams (Wales) Dean Bouzanis (Greece) and Brad Inman (Scotland) Shane Lowry (Ireland) have all decided they are AUSTRALIAN. Click to continue reading...

AIS: When did Australia last create a player with flair?

Football in the Capital 06 April @ 06:59 PM EST
No AIS creative player since Zelic!!!
Aussie media have been whinging for months about the Socceroos style of play...and I'm from the school that it's not all about the Coach.
If you don't have the tools it's hard to paint a picture.
But, until recently, our so-called best of the best came through the AIS, and therefore it's worth noting who is our most creative player to come through such an organisation. Click to continue reading...

Half time Aussies 1 Uff said!

Football in the Capital 10 September @ 11:20 AM EST
Type your summary here
First Half:
Australia defended well against the expected Uzbek onslaught. It never came, not early and it wasn't until Australia had scored that the Uzbeks were able to get some sustained pressure and corners.
The feared Uzbek's seemed to fear Australia and maybe they should. Click to continue reading...

Socceroos draw, Bosnich back today

Football in the Capital 19 August @ 06:43 PM EST
Socceroos drew 2-2 with South Africa (read FFA report below) and I'm expecting Mark Bosnich to be announced as a Central Coast Mariners player today. Isn't that fantastic. A-League entertainment factor about to go through the roof. Welcome back Bozza!
The Qantas Socceroos have drawn with South Africa 2-all in an enthralling match at Loftus Road Stadium in London tonight. Click to continue reading...

Australia Argentina: This one could hurt.

Football in the Capital 09 August @ 03:37 PM EST
Big game tonight. Can Arnie's defence hold out? and perhaps more importantly can we create....anything!
Australia earned a point, outplayed generally by Serbia in the opening game, but yet if the fastly improving Billy Celeski had scored rather than unluckily hit the post we would surely have won. Click to continue reading...

Socceroos; Tuggers boys to start?

Football in the Capital 18 June @ 11:14 PM EST
Tuggeranong United fans are heading to Sydney in big numbers for the Australia China game on the weekend.
And they are expected to be rewarded by seeing Carl Valeri and his former Under 11 Tuggers team-mate Nikolai Topor-Stanley in the starting line-up.

Armchair fans win it for Australia

Football in the Capital 16 June @ 04:01 AM EST
Australia 3 Qatar 1
Australia marched into the next round of the World Cup thanks to the loud and passionate "Armchair Aussies."
Pessimistic Pim played it safe last week against Iraq, got criticised by all the armchair fans back home, and saw his team lose 1-0.
Tonight he played a few attackers and the Aussies romped home 3-1. Click to continue reading...

Middle Week Reaction

Australian Football 09 June @ 06:21 PM EST
The press is really starting to get on Verbeek's back after the loss to Iraq. In terms of results, the Dutch coach probably has a right to feel a bit bemused after only losing one game and conceding the first goal of his reign. In terms of recent performances, I don't think he has too [...] Click to continue reading...

Mid-Week Reaction

Australian Football 09 June @ 06:21 PM EST
Euro 2008 Germany and Portugal looked good, maybe even too good. Portugal made turkeys of the Turks, playing some wonderful football as they hammered in two goals and bit the bar three times. The Germans didn't look aesthetically as good but they were typically efficient in deposing of Poland by the same scoreline. Click to continue reading...
