Through Ryu's Lens: Brazil v Denmark.
It's not unreasonable to say that Brazil are back to their best futebol, and coach Mano Menezes
is unleashing joga bonito once again. Brazil won this friendly 3-1, with Hulk smashing the
game wide open with two goals.

LANDOVER, Md. -- Herculez Gomez is not unfamiliar with taking advantage of opportunities, and
it appears he has made the most of a chance once again.
In his first start with the U.
Article by Luke LohrThe United States Men's National team was fresh off their 5-1 win against Scotland when they were
humbled by a feisty Brazilian squad. The match at FedEx field held over 39,000 fans and they were
witness to an American side of split-personalities.
The canary yellow jerseys were everywhere in the first half. Brazil obviously had done their
homework because every time Landon Donovan got the ball he was set on by at least two defenders.
The USA were also pinned deep in their half by a physical Seleção who used a full court press.
Against the swarm, the three man midfield of Maurice Edu, Jermaine Jones, and Michael Bradley were
not allowed to define themselves like they did against Scotland.
It was a decent start for the USA as the match was fairly even through about 10 minutes. In the
12th minute, there was some controversy as a penalty kick was given to Brazil for a handball on USA
defender Oguchi Onyewu. Replays show that it wasn't deliberate and probably a bit harsh as Onyewu
didn't even receive a yellow card.

LANDOVER, Md. -- The U.S. men's national team looked to their match against Brazil as a way to
guage just how far they have come in their first year under head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, and they
found out there is still work to be done.
Four days after routing Scotland to open their busy summer, the United States suffered a 4-1
defeat to Brazil in front of a crowd of 67,619 fans at FedEx Field on Wednesday night.
Hulk! Herculez! Neymar! uh. . Bradley!
In a minor appetizer to tonight's important match, the US is hosting Brazil on a football field.
After trouncing Scotland in their last match, I'm sure the US is hoping to just hold on and maybe
gut out a draw against the dangerous Brazilians. Match is on ESPN and ESPN3 online.
The U.S. men's national team takes on five-time World Cup champion Brazil tonight at FedEx Field
as a major tune-up for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala.
The match comes on the heels of a 5-1 victory over Scotland on Saturday, but the level of
competition will be taken to another level given the Brazilians' talent-laden roster.
Welcome to Selecao Bootcamp a Futbolita tradition on the Brazil National
Team! Following their 3-1 win over Denmark at the weekend, the Brazilians have arrived in
Washington DC to face the USA in a friendly tonight. It has been billed as a test for the upcoming
Olympics, and Jurgen Klinsmann hasn't shown signs of taking it lightly.
Brazil's national team are heaving a huge sigh of relief because the
Euro Championships are virtually non-existent for them and friendly matches
scheduled from now are the equivalent of a "férias" (vacation). Well, at
least until the Olympics come around and Brazilians start yelling "Gold Medal for
futebol!
Welcome to your Champions League Final Bumper Post, brought to you by the
squinting Fernando Torres and his post-flight mop. He brought just enough clothes
for the post-match dinner in Munich, so it looks like that epic house rave and beer fountain party
Jupp Heynckes has planned will only be attended by Mario Gomez (2
more goals, tipo, "zwei tore!
All right everyone, listen up María Gonzalez was officially the Girl
of the Hour at Raul's official "going away" party at the weekend and you'd better believe
it! Schalke paid homage to their favourite Spanish striker at the Veltins Arena on Sunday, where he
played his final match for the German side, but it was really Raul's 5-year-old
daughter who stole the show with her ridiculously adorable outfit.
The always controversial Paul Gardner writes about Chelsea's victory over Barcelona.
A couple of deja vu scenes present themselves. It's 1954 in Berne, and West Germany has just
won the World Cup by beating the invincible Hungarians (well, they hadn't lost a game in four
years). How could that happen?
Big thing for Brazilians, this whole World Cup at home business coming up in a little over two
years. Expectations will be a touch on the high side, and number six is certainly on the minds of
many.

The equation in Group 2 going into the last group games was simple. Lanús were already through as
the top team in the group. The winner of the game between Olimpia and Emelec in Paraguay would join
the Argentineans in the knockout rounds.
Japan cemented their position as World Champions last night
when they defeated the Selecao feminina (Brazil) 4-1 at the Kobe Stadium.
Que aconteceu, irmãs? (what happened, sisters?) Granted, it was
only an exhibition match to commemorate the Kirin Challenge's Cup and everybody
knows how the Japanese love inviting friendly teams under the pretext of
winning a "grand" trophy.
Well well, if it isn't Barcelona's new "Club of Ten", comprising of
the most-capped players in the club's 112-year history. Indeed, Puyol, Xavi,
Victor Valdes and Iniesta have officially joined the ranks of Barca's legends, with Xavi as the
most capped player (619 games).
An angry Maradona called a group of Al Shabab fans "cowards" after he jumped into the stands to
defend his partner, Veronica Ojeda (Maradona calls her his wife, but it's unclear if that's
official), from verbal abuse after Al Wasl's 2-0 loss on Thursday.
From Gulf News:
Ciel, a Brazilian striker, who set up and then scored in the 2-0 win was the subject of much
fury by Argentinean supporters from Diego Maradona's entourage, which included Maradona's partner
Veronica and Al Wasl player Juan Mercier's other half.
Real Madrid's awareness over the strength of their opponents in the Champions League, APOEL
Nicosia, reaps its reward as they shut down the Cyprus representatives 3-0 with Karim Benzema
bagging a brace, while Ricardo Kaka adding another one.
It wasn't actually a ride in the park for Los Blancos, although the were totally dominating the
match, but the goals didn't arrive until the last 15 minutes into the game.

"In my time as manager, it is the best team we have faced," said Sir Alex Ferguson after
Manchester United were comprehensively dismantled by Barcelona in last year's Champions League
final. Three-time European Cup winner Graeme Souness went further, saying: "I think they are the
best team ever and, in Lionel Messi, they have the best player ever.

It's a bit premature to say Didier Drogba's days at Stamford Bridge are numbered. At least the
striker thinks so.
Drogba said Wednesday that he would like to stay with Chelsea for "as long as possible.

What's wrong with Barcelona these days? Jake Meador has a few ideas:
In his tribute to Dutch soccer, Brilliant Orange, journalist David Winter writes of how
the Dutch brand of attractive, free-flowing beautiful soccer always seemed to be overcome by a more
utilitarian, pragmatic (German) approach.

Corinthians, Brazil's second most popular club with an estimated 24 million supporters, are
trying to increase that number by signing Chen Zhizhao, a 23-year-old midfielder who will be the
Brazilian Serie A's first ever Chinese player.
With no international caps and previous stints in the Hong Kong first division and Chinese Super
League, Chen -- already renamed simply "Zizao" by the Brazilians -- might seem a curious signing
for Corinthians from a footballing perspective.
Yesterday, Bosnia-Herzegovina took on world powerhouse Brazil in an international friendly in
St. Gallen, Switzerland. The Brazilians took an early lead when Marcelo scored in the 4th minute.
The early goal suggested that Brazil might ultimately overpower the Balkans side, but in the 13th
minute Vedad Ibisevic picked the equalizer for Bosnia-Herzegovina.
If you ever develop an unexplainable craving for pancakes on a Sunday morning, be sure NOT to
head to the home of United's Da Silva twins! A hilarious video shot in their
Manchester homes proves that although the Brazilians love proclaiming their cooking abilities, a
ready-made Pancake mix from Marks and Spencer tragically failed to do justice for
these irmãos.
Less than a week after bringing American Edson Buddle back to Los Angeles, the team has
bolstered the roster further by unveiling two Brazilians.
Earlier this week, the Galaxy officially announced that the club had reached an agreement with
Brazilian club São Paulo FC, allowing midfielder Juninho to return on loan for the 2012
season.
Brazil's master of funk dance and part-time footballer, Neymar, has expressed
interest in playing at this year's London Olympics. Strange, considering the fact that Brazilians
don't particularly care for this tournament! At Beijing 2008, heads rolled when
Ronaldinho and co' picked up a bronze medal instead of gold.
We're now officially 30 months away from the World Cup in Brazil, which means
there isn't much time for the country to start finalizing some basic rules. When it comes to
football of course, 'basic rules' really range from the sale of beers to deciding on how much
'fiesta' (partying) is allowed in the stadiums.
Last season a small tweetmeme of #TheTrialist started after Seattle Sounders FC reported
non-drafted, non-contracted players as "trialist" in their reports of pre-season scrimmages. There
were occasions when "Trialist 1" passed to "Trialist 4." Due to Major League Soccer's various
player acquisition methods this was done to reduce the chances of said player being claimed prior
to Seattle claiming the player as their own.
Obviously, the atmosphere at a derby held in such high esteem such as that of 'Derby

Diego Milito's wonder strike for Inter in the 54th minute (there's no denying him,
really) the game last night was .

Before the U.S. men's national team begins its World Cup qualifying campaign this summer, it
will be tested against one of the world's best.
The United States will host Brazil in a friendly on May 30 or 31, the Brazilian federation (CBF)
announced on its website on Thursday.

The Original Ronaldo 'O Fenômeno' (without ego and all that
guapo swag) visited the PSG training ground and facilities yesterday, where he was
enthusiastically welcomed and embraced.
So as Messi basks in the glory of winning a third straight FIFA world player of the year title,
attention continues to be centred on the players who missed out.
One such Player is Neymar. According to Brazilian legend Ronaldo, Neymar not only has the
potential to win the Ballon d'Or, but he can become better than Messi.
Marcos, goalkeeper of the Brazilian team who won the World Cup 2002, announced his retirement,
at age 38. He retires after a career of 20 years, playing only for one team: Palmeiras; the team
informed that no other player will wear jacket #12, the one Marcos used to wear; also, there plans
of building an statue of Marcos to be planted at the stadium of Palmeiras.
A WINNER IN BRAZILIAN HEARTS SOCRATES
We were stuck in transit at an airport when the news broke that Brazilian football legend
Socrates passed away on Dec 4 and couldn't write a tribute to him in time. Many
football-loving fathers, brothers and grandads out there speak highly of this man whose legacy is
well-documented by the passion of the Brazilians.
The U.S. Women's National Team has ended 2011 as the top-ranked team in the world according to the
year-end FIFA rankings.
The USA remained at #1, just ahead of Germany and third-place Japan, which has achieved its highest
ranking ever.
The Nadeshiko benefited from Brazil's inconsistent performances: two draws against Canada (7th, up
2), narrow wins over Mexico (21st, up 1) and Costa Rica (41st, up 3) and a defeat by Denmark (12th,
up 2) not only leave Brazil with a loss of 28 points and in 4th place, but see the Brazilians slip
out of the top-3 for the first time since June of 2008.

It's a common sight everywhere in Brazil to see the fun-loving natives get together spontaneously
for a game of kick-about on any space they can find.
Be it that it could be an obscure back alley of any street, the famed Copacabana beaches or on
those lush manicured pitches dotted around this football crazy nation, so long inches of space are
made available you bound to see the Brazilians coming together to enjoy a game of street soccer.
Kashiwa Reysol's FIFA Club World Cup dream ended today at the hands of South American champions
Santos FC. Neymar was amongst the goals for the Brazilians as they claimed a 3-1 win against the
J-League champions whilst earlier in the day North and Central American champions Monterrey CF won
the 5th/6th place play-off, getting the better of African champions Espérance Tunis by the odd
goal in five.
