Sir Alex Picks Brazil For World Cup 2010

WorldCupBlog 21 November @ 09:46 PM EST

Didn't Sir Alex just finishing lecturing the FA on their media overexposure of Wayne Rooney? Apparently, shedding a little bit of limelight his way isn't much of an issue at all. The Scot didn't mince words when picking his favorite to win the 2010 World Cup.

"I can't see past Brazil, actually," Ferguson was quoted in the Daily Mail.

(Now) I Know What You Did (Since) Last Summer, Part III

The Offside - Arsenal 19 November @ 11:32 PM EST

Finishing up our "what did we miss out on?" series today:

FELIPE MELO Arsenal were probably linked with Felipe Melo this summer more than any other player. The biggest difference between Arsenal's 2007-2008 season and our 2008-2009 season, which saw the club take a large step backwards, was the absence of Mathieu Flamini.

  • For the love of Kun, the Rojiblancos have been slapped with a fine of 150 euros (about the cost of a decent La Liga ticket these days). Anyway, RFEF meted out that small punishment after Atletico's fans were said to have thrown objects at Pellegrini from the stands during the Madrid derby on November 7.

Fabio Capello's comments: "Spain less strong than Brazil"

Soccerblog 15 November @ 11:39 PM EST

It is hard to see England overcome Brazil even if they were at full strength with Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, and Glen Johnson given how the Brazilians moved with ease around the pitch. Meanwhile, the English attack was barely able to make a dent.

Fabio Capello probably knows by now that Brazil is the team to beat.

Robinho does not want to "spend another day" at City

Soccerblog 12 November @ 12:03 AM EST

The carpet bagger wants to leave but an angel waits in the wings.

Something about Brazilian music not being good enough for the neighbours.

Mark Hughes seems to be doing a good job of getting rid of all the Brazilians in the team. Elano, Jo, and now Robinho. We can also look forward to the African clique, Adebayor and Kolo Toure, being broken up.

Football and Canadian Nationalism

A More Splendid Life 11 November @ 08:00 AM EST
There's been an interesting exchange on the Canadian soccer front, with Jason de Vos and Paul James both writing articles about Canadian players who have chosen to play for other national teams, and Duane Rollins responding in kind.
While this might get me into all sorts of trouble, my own view is that while I am sympathetic to those who are angry at players like Begovic and Lensky for switching national allegiances at this late stage, and for misleading Canada fans over their intended decision, I have trouble accepting that they should play for Canada "no matter what," as in "no matter if the CSA actively supports both them and the national program in a meaningful way or not. Luke Young gets picked for England V Brazil, and then retires!

WDKF | Qualified Football Arm Chair Managers Slash Pundits 11 November @ 06:38 AM EST
Fabio Capello had a quandary this morning when Glen Johnson pulled out of his squad to face the Brazilians. He thought he would give Luke Young a quick phone-call and tell him to go get his kit and boots. Nobody says no to an England call up (unless you are Jamie Boo-Hoo Carragher) However the Villain [. Who likes goals?

No Short Corners 09 November @ 04:46 PM EST
As you probably noticed, we've had some S365 machine ghosts to bust this weekend. That obviously slowed me down, and thus, this is late. It's still videos of sweet goals, though...Let's begin with some dude named Ricky at Real Madrid. Apparently, he doesn't mess around.Speaking of single moniker Brazilians, it seems Corinthians have a goal-sniffin' fella name of. Click to continue reading...

Milan show signs of progress

Futbolita 05 November @ 05:00 AM EST

Despite the plethora of Champions League games available to me this week I flicked my sports channel over to the game in Milan to see whether the Milanistas could re-create their spectacular victory in the Bernabeu two weeks ago. And, despite their failure to upset the football betting odds and re-enact their Madrid heroics following 90 scrappy but passionate minutes, there were still signs that they have turned the corner.

Greatest World Cup matches: Sweden-Brazil (1958)

Football Fanaticos 23 October @ 08:54 AM EST
Brazil didn't start the sixth World Cup in Sweden very well: on their first two matches they had defeated Austria 3-0 and tied 0-0 against England (this was the first goalless draw in a World Cup), and it came down to their last first round match where they were facing a strong USSR side that still had a chance at the quarterfinals. CSKA vs United: Twins vs Twins

Republik Of Mancunia 21 October @ 04:00 AM EST

10-Man Ghana Take Out Brazil on Penalties in the U-20 Final

WorldCupBlog 17 October @ 10:10 AM EST

Yesterday's U20 final, Brazil vs. Ghana. So much potential for excitement. Ghana's Black Satellites (the baby version of the Black Stars) came into the final having scored 16 goals in the tournament. Brazil stood at 14. Surely a goal-fest was in order.

But no.

The game-changing moment happens at about the 1:10 mark in the video, when Ghana's Daniel Addo is sent off in the 37th.

No points from three games, eight goals conceded, only two scored. On the face of it, a pretty miserable showing by the Young Socceroos in Egypt.

Milan – The end of a spectacle?

Ronaldinho, the Wrong Promise?

Top Ten Richest Football Players In 2008

David Beckham is by far the richest footballer but I personally feel that either Kaka or Ronaldinho should top the list.
