It's that time of the year again when local pride is at stake in the numerous state
championships which are prevalent in the opening months of the Brazilian football calendar. From
Amapá in the far north to Rio Grande do Sul in the south, from Acre in the west to Paraíba in the
far east of the country, twenty seven regions of Brazil will be involved in their own local
championship, mixing the big boys with the smaller village teams, with each club hoping to win
their respective title and qualify for a place in next year's edition of the national cup, Copa
Brazil.
Ricardo Teixeira, the CBF president for 23 years and the man behind Brazil's 2014 World Cup bid
stepped down citing health concerns. It was a great day for football.
Romario, the former footballer and now elected official who campaigned on reforming football

Ronaldinho threw a birthday party over the weekend at his mansion in Barra da
Tijuca, which is quite typical of the Brazilian star since he arrived back at home last
year. Brazil's "O Dia" reported the fact that two women were thrown out of the party
(which ended at 7am the next day) for talking loudly and subsequently throwing punches at one

Vasco da Gama defender Deda has ruled out a move away from Brazil.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a string of club from throughout Europe.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United have reportedly expressed an interest, but Dede is ready to
reject any advances for the time being.
