Kaká, Dunga and Adriano ponder tonight's clash with Argentina
Brazil head to Argentina today knowing that a win could see them qualify for next year's World
Cup in South Africa. Dunga's men need the three points in the estádio Gigante in Rosario and
require Colombia to beat Ecuador in Medellin earlier in the day.
Globoesporte.com are saying that Corinthians Ronaldo turned down official offers from Premier
League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Blackburn Rovers. While the article gives no details of the
offers, it does state that the forward has no interest in returning to Europe as he wants to stay
with Corinthians for next year's Libertadores campaign.
Saturday night saw the big South American clásico in Rosario as Argentina hosted Brazil in the
qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup, and Diego Maradona's reign as manager will be marked forever by
the result: Argentina lost a qualifier at home for only the second time in their history. The first
was the 0-5 loss [.
Here's our latest installment from the Musa do Brasileirão competition. Again, it's a beauty (and
more) competition of sorts featuring young ladies representing each of the teams competing in the
Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (the top tier of Brazilian football). Today's featured contestant
is Simone Fescki of Coritiba.
Dunga has called up 22 players for Brazil's final World Cup qualifying matches against Bolivia
in La Paz on October 11th and Venezuela in Campo Grande three days later.
Brazil are leaders with 33 points and have already qualified for the finals in South Africa next
year. With this in mind, Dunga was expected to bring in some fresh faces for the remaining two
games.
Some good news has already come Argentina's way prior to Saturday night's clásico against Brazil
in the Gigante del Arroyito in Rosario. Both Ecuador (0-2 away to Colombia) and Uruguay (0-1 away
to bottom placed Peru) lost, meaning Argentina are guaranteed to still be in the top four even if
they suffer their second ever [.
Luisão heads home for Brazil
A headed goal by Luisão and a brace from Luís Fabiano earned Brazil a deserved 3-1 against
Argentina in Rosario. Dátolo scored Argentina's consolation goal. This was Argentina's first home
defeat in 41 matches. The result ensured Dunga's team a place in the World Cup finals in South
Africa next year with three rounds to spare.
Robinho discovers trees a crowd
A muscle problem will keep Robinho out of Brazil's World Cup qualifier against Chile in Salvador
on Wednesday. The player underwent an MRI scan and squad doctor, José Luiz Runco, decided to err
on the side of caution.
With Lúcio, Ramires, Kaká and Luis Fabiano all suspended, Dunga may call up a replacement
striker – possibly Palmeiras' Vagner Love or Atlético Mineiro's Diego Tardelli.
Nilmar scores three against Chile
Even without the suspended Luis Fabiano, Brazil still managed to find the net four times against
a spirited Chile in Salvador on Wednesday night.
All eyes had been on Flamengo man, Adriano, but it was Villarreal's recent acquisition, Nilmar,
who put away three of Brazil's goals.
In August, FootBrazil caught up with Palmeiras' Diego Souza and now you can see our
feature on the highly talented but volatile midfielder right here. The interview was recorded just
before the crunch meeting between Palmeiras and archenemies São Paulo, and before Souza was called
up by Brazil.
Fernandão celebrates against Corinthians
On Saturday, just two points separated the top three sides in the Brasileiro. But even though
Palmeiras were not in action, they stayed top after Internacional lost away at Vitória and São
Paulo were held away at strugglers Santo André. Now just three points separate the top five.
You've probably heard the names. But you may not have seen them in action. Now here's your
chance to see Douglas Costa – the player who Manchester United have been linked with for over a
year – and Santos' highly-coveted teenager, Neymar. The two appeared on our weekly magazine show,
FootBrazil, and now you can watch the feature here.
You thought you'd read everything worth reading in preview to this weekend's World Cup qualifying
matches, didn't you? Well you're wrong (unless you've already read this). Because this week, in our
second interview, The Enganche have been talking to Mario Kempes, and asking him about making his
Argentina debut at altitude away to Bolivia, what [.
As you may be aware, Argentina play Brazil later on Saturday (kick off at 21:30 local time, 01:30
Sunday morning UK time) in a qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Brazil don't
need to win but Argentina, if they're going to keep alive realistic hopes of qualifying
automatically, have to.
Argentina travel to Asunción to take on Paraguay later tonight, with the team unlikely to be
announced until very shortly before kick off. Whether Diego Maradona has any idea what it's going
to be himself is anyone's guess. There are some educated guesses to be made, though. There's also
some discussion to be had of [.
Leonardo set for a Milan exit? (Clearly the image below is of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle
with the same name and not of the Brazilian football coach)
He has only been in the job for a few months, but Milan coach Leonardo may start feeling
the pressure to provide immediate results.
Neto Berola scores Vitória's second against Palmeiras
Palmeiras went down 3-2 away to Vitória but second-placed Internacional failed to take
advantage by losing by the same score at home to Cruzeiro.
Goals from Uelliton, Neto Berola and debut boy, Derlei, earned Vitória three deserved
points.
FootBrazil spoke to Diego Tardelli before his call up by Brazil. The Atlético Mineiro ‘bad
boy' is currently amongst the Campeonato Brasileiro leading scorers with 13 to his name. Tardelli
started his career at São Paulo before moving on to Real Betis, São Caetano, PSV, Flamengo and
Atlético Mineiro.
- Barca coach Pep Guardiola stars in a new book entitled "Paraula Pep", or "The World of Pep". The
book is the result of the success of a television program by TV3 under the same name, which was
broadcasted in the week before Barca's CL victory in Roma. Editor Ernest Floch was quick to take
the initiative to commision the book, which records the phrases that have been considered
outstanding in the path of Guardiola on the bench of FC Barcelona, and that define his philosophy.
Last month we talked to São Paulo front man, Washington, about his career and the Morumbi
club's dramatic surge up the table. Brave heart talks about his time at Ponte Preta,
Atlético Paranaense, Japan, Fluminense, and tells us that São Paulo can still clinch a
record-breaking fourth league title in a row.
São Paulo gift Ronaldo a goal in the Morumbi
A 2-1 victory over strugglers Atlético Paranaense plus São Paulo's and Internacional's
failures to win their games has left Palmeiras in a commanding position in the Campeonato
Brasileiro.
Chile international Figueroa made the best of his first start for Palmeiras scoring the Green's
opener in the Palestra Itália.
