Derek Lowe has been traded to the Cleveland Indians in a deal where the Atlanta Braves get rid
of arguably their most overpaid player. In return, the Braves received minor leaguer Chris Jones.
In addition to Lowe, the Indians got $10 million toward the $15 million Lowe is due next
season.
The Indians are obviously hoping Lowe can bounce back.
Welcome back, Matt Diaz. The Atlanta Braves sent a player to be named later to the Pittsburgh
Pirates for outfielder Matt Diaz. The 33-year-old played for the Braves from 2006 through 2010. He
signed with Pittsburgh last offseason.
So far this season, Diaz has been a bust. He's hitting .259 with no homers and 19 RBIs.
The Atlanta Braves have been aggressive during this year's trade deadline in an attempt to add a
big name to their team. On Sunday, the Braves finally got their man. Michael Bourn was dealt to the
Braves in return for four minor league prospects: Brett Oberholzer, Paul Clemens, Juan Abreu and
Jordan Schafer.
