The former Wizards season in MLS continues to wind down and while there weren't a lot of goals this
week by players, there was some news involving former Wizards. First I've added two new players to
the list, as the Jermaine Hue and the Jamaican league started up a little bit ago. And the Wizards
4th round draft pick this past year, Akeem Priestly is now playing in the top division in
Azerbaijan.
Chicago allows two first half goals in exhibition
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - Toyota Park was abuzz for Club de Futbol America during Wednesday night's
exhibition against the host Chicago Fire. Supporters of the Primera Division organization got what
they wanted to see as Las Aguilas won a 2-1 decision against their Major League Soccer opponent in
front of a crowd of 17,342.
Time to revisit my projections for the last time. Who will be available for the Philadelphia Union
to select? The rules were announced recently, and they're exactly the same as the past few
drafts.
The following players should graduate from Generation Adidas status: Alston, Beltran, Frei,
Gonzalez, Hall, Nyarko, Wallace, Zakuani, and Zayner.
Today#8217;s preview is brought to you by Irish Steve, one of the keepers of Chicago Fire Offside.
He#8217;s joined over there by Johnathan, author of a recent interview with former Fire player/icon
Diego Gutierrez. Be sure to stop by and say, #8220;Hey.#8221; Nuts and Bolts: Over the past few
years, the Fire have [.
There will be no debrief, as this game isn't even a U.S. Open Cup match. It's a play-in, and
frankly that's crap. I want games against the Islanders (of Pennsylvania), against the Battery,
against some team called Ajax that's from Baltimore. That's the U.S. Open Cup I love. This play-in
system against MLS teams that I see twice on other occasions just doesn't move me.
Another week of former Wizards updates. We have the return of a former Wizard, as it appears that
Edson Elcock has returned to the game, joining Yomby William again at Richmond. We also have the
appearance of another former Wizard who is not playing any more. Dionysius Sebwe, who the Wizards
drafted in 1996, is now a Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Defense in Liberia.
Time to revisit my projections of who will be protected and who will be left available. What's
changed in the past month? For last month's review, click here.
A few days ago I posted about when players graduate from Generation Adidas status, which is highly
relevant to this topic. Check out that post for further info.
Who to protect and who to expose is the guessing game for the Fire. (Getty Images)
This year unlike the last couple the expansion draft caught up with me here. I almost feel like
I am a little late getting these lists out for the draft which is a couple days after MLS Cup.
Starting today I will release a team-by-team list of who I think will be protected and who I think
will be left exposed.
If you'll pardon the double dip, allow me to re-purpose something I knocked out for MLS Insider
yesterday. I got to talking to Nick Rimando for a minute and he pointed out something that I didn't
think of; he basically closed out his buddy Brandon Prideaux's career with that save in the
shootout (they were teammates at D.
Five ties -- two scoreless, one 3-3. Only two decisive games, including Seattle's first loss. Kasey
Keller is still unscored-upon, but he departed early for the Sounders after handling the ball
outside the box. Lots of red cards.
Home teams first
Toronto 1, Dallas 1: Dwayne De Rosario showed off his underrated heading skills on
a long throw-in from Adrian Serioux to give Toronto the lead.
Another week of former Wizards updates. There's a new former Wizard added to this list, as Michael
Todd, who the Wizards drafted in the second round of the 2007 Supplemental Draft, is playing with
Long Island in the PDL.
MLS
Nick Garcia - San Jose Earthquakes - Started and played 90 minutes in San Jose's 2-1 win over Real
Salt Lake.
Shorthanded Chicago defense faces difficult challenge
Defense always is a high priority, particularly for a former defender such as Chicago Fire head
coach Denis Hamlett. On Friday night, Chicago's defense will be dramatically shorthanded as the
Fire (5-1-6) host the Houston Dynamo (5-2-3) for an 8 p.
GOAL OF THE WEEK: Rapids striker Omar Cummings is up for voting for MLS goal of
the week for his 88th-minute equalizer against Real Salt Lake on Saturday in Utah. Read all about
it at the Rapids Undercurrent. And vote for Omar at MLSnet.com.
FORMER RAPIDS PLAYER RETIRING: In Chicago, veteran defender Brandon Prideaux
announced that he will retire after this season, his 11th in the league.
First update for this week's former Wizards update. There will be some updates as Michael Todd and
Long Island play tonight, as well I'll try to get the minutes that Antti Sumiala played in his
team's Finnish Cup game today. Huge week for former Wizard, Byron Carmichael, who scored 6 goals in
his team's 3 games this week.
MLS
Nick Garcia - Toronto FC - Started and played 90 minutes in Toronto's 3-2 loss to Columbus. Started
and played 90 minutes in Toronto's 1-0 loss to Puerto Rico in the CONCACAF Champion's League.
Taylor Graham - Seattle Sounders FC - Did not dress in Seattle's 0-0 draw with Chicago.
Will Hesmer - Columbus Crew - Started and played 90 minutes in Columbus' 3-2 win over Toronto FC.
Time for this week's weekly update on former Wizards. A few goals were scored this week, but
overall not a good week for MLS former Wizards, as the majority did not even get games for their
teams this weekend. Also, check out the end of this post, as I'm listing the players that I believe
are still playing, but do not know where they are at now.
With most former Wizards outside of USL off this week due to the international break, there wasn't
a whole lot going on, but a few players did make their appearance worth it.
MLS
Nick Garcia - Toronto FC - Started and played 45 minutes in Toronto's 1-0 loss to Colorado.
Taylor Graham - Seattle Sounders FC - Seattle did not have a game this week.
Another week of former Wizards updates. The USL playoffs are inn full swing right now. Still
looking for a few former Wizards still, and since Carlos Marinelli hasn't even appeared for
Argentinos Juniors at all, I'm doubting he actually signed for them, so he joins the list of former
Wizards I'm searching for, along with Alex Zotinca, Doug DeMartin, Jose Burciaga, Neal Kitson,
Scott Sealy, and Will John.
Donovan pushes L.A. into first in the West
Chicago Fire players were colliding with each other - Jon Busch and Wilman Conde (right), Mike
Banner and Calen Carr. There were some open gaps within the Fire's defense, including leaving Los
Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan wide open a couple of times above the box.
Another week with your former Wizards update. The USL season is almost over with the finals coming
up this next week. The MLS season as well is starting to get close to the end of the season. We do
have a first time appearance for Chris Konopka as he made his debut for Sporting Fingal.
MLS
Nick Garcia - Toronto FC - Toronto did not play this week.
The Chicago Fire wrapped up a successful two-game road trip (1-0-1), and now they have the comfort
of Toyota Park to come home to. The Fire host the New York Red Bulls (0-1-1) at 2 p.m. Sunday
(televised on My50) for their home opener.br /br /a onblur="try

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. - The Chicago Fire weren't purposely looking for another defensive challenge, but
they created one Sunday during their home opener against the New York Red Bulls.
Chicago (2-0-1) overcame an early John Thorrington red card and subsequent one-man disadvantage.
Then Marco Pappa (left) scored a shorthanded first-half goal as the Fire topped the Red Bulls, 1-0,
in Major League Soccer action at Toyota Park in front of 11,633.
Once again I'm getting an update out early, which means that there will be an update to this post
after tonight's MLS (KC-DC, RSL-LA) and Nutrilite Canadian Championship games (TFC-Vancouver).
MLS
Nick Garcia - San Jose Earthquakes - Started and played 90 minutes in the Earthquakes 1-0 loss to
Chivas USA.
Most of the big European leagues are done, but the summer leagues around the world are going
strong, and that includes leagues with a few former Wizards in them.
MLS
Nick Garcia - San Jose Earthquakes - Started and played 90 minutes in San Jose 3-1 loss to Houston
on Saturday. Garcia started and played 90 minutes tonight in San Jose's 2-1 loss to Columbus.
Chicago defender's 2009 campaign is his last
On Tuesday, Chicago Fire defender Brandon Prideaux announced he is retiring following the team's
2009 Major League Soccer campaign.
Prideaux has played in 240 games and is 64 minutes away from reaching 20,000 minutes on the pitch,
or nearly the equivalent of playing soccer for two weeks straight without a break.
It's been a fairly slow week for Wizards news, not a whole lot of interesting stuff, but here is
your weekly former Wizards update. As has become routine now, there will be an update, as 3 former
Wizards teams are competing tonight in the PDL playoffs.
MLS
Nick Garcia - Toronto FC - Started and played 90 minutes in Toronto's 1-1 draw with Houston.
Chicago earns draw, nearly pulls off upset in closing minutes
The script would have been perfect for Chicago Fire defender Brandon Prideaux:
The Renton, Wash., native playing in Seattle, in his final Major League Soccer season, in his 241st
game without having scored a goal (an MLS record), and getting a chance in the closing minutes to
put an end to that string and give Chicago a late lead in front of a packed Qwest Field.
Here's this week's former Wizards update. We have the return of one of our Fall-Spring season
former Wizards to play, as Matt Taylor and FSV Frankfurt started their season in the DFB Pokal. We
also have news that looks like it will effect two former Wizards, as the Argentine league has
suspended the Apertura season.
A good week for many former Wizards, as Stephen Armstrong and Ryan Pore both scored multiple goals
this past week, Eddie Johnson seems to have gotten himself a place as a sub on Fulham's bench, and
Khari Stephenson is trying to add another cup winner's medal to his 2004 US Open Cup medal. More of
the European leagues are kicking off.
Here is this week's former Wizards update, we have a new addition to the list, as Chris Konopka has
been found in Ireland again, having signed with Sporting Fingal FC. Also appears that Scott Sealy
was trialing in Turkey with Ankaragucu after leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv. Still trying to find Alex
Zotinca, Doug DeMartin, Eloy Colombano, Jose Burciaga, Neal Kitson, and Will John, if any of them
are still playing.
The list of former Wizards currently playing is getting smaller and smaller as more of the American
team's seasons come to an end. The first round of the MLS playoffs are half over, so next week will
be the end for even more former Wizards.
MLS
Taylor Graham - Seattle Sounders FC - Did not dress in Seattle's 0-0 draw with Houston.
EDIT - BREAKING NEWS! Preki re-nominated for Hall of Fame! Feel free to factor in his performance
over the weekend. (Yes, I know you're not supposed to.)
Now that I've got my head out of the oven, let's warm up with some trivia.
Depending on what happens Friday night, one bit of statistical weirdness will fall.
Lots of Wizards to keep up to date on now with most of the Scandinavian leagues playing again,
along with the rest of Europe and MLS. Next week with USL-1 returning will be even more
players.
MLS
Nick Garcia - San Jose Earthquakes - Started and played 90 minutes in San Jose's 2-0 loss to the
Earthquakes.
Rolfe's late goal salvages tie, keeps Chicago unbeaten
The Chicago Fire had to battle back all game and wound up with the final tally en route to a 3-all
draw against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday in Major League Soccer action at Buck Shaw
Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Chris Rolfe's long strike from a little more than 20 yards out tied the score at 3-all in the 85th
minute.
Another week of updates for former Wizards. This week probably has the most former Wizards playing
since I've started keeping track of the former Wizards results with MLS, USL, and most foreign
leagues going on.
MLS
Nick Garcia - San Jose Earthquakes - Started and played 90 minutes in San Jose's 3-3 draw with
Chicago.
The Fire go into this game as the only undefeated team in the Eastern Conference on the back of
a 3-3 draw against San Jose in sunny California. The Fire welcome back Wilman Conde and Johnny "Hot
Rod" Thorrington from injury and suspension respectively. Both men's presences were missed in San
Jose where defensive mistakes resulted in the Fire giving up 3 goals in a game for the first time
since October of 2008 against Toronto.
Got this week's former Wizards update out early today, but I'll be updating it tonight, as there is
one MLS game (Toronto-Chivas USA), one US Open Cup game (DC-Dallas), and I'm waiting on the result
of Gefle IF game today. So there will be an update tonight to the players listed.
MLS
Nick Garcia - San Jose Earthquakes - Started and played 90 minutes picking up a yellow card in San
Jose's 1-1 draw with LA.
Here's another update on former Wizards, this one will get an update later as the San Jose-New York
Open Cup Qualifier is about to start, and Ivan Trujillo's club, Deportes QuindĂo is currently
playing.
MLS
Nick Garcia - San Jose Earthquakes - Started and played 90 minutes picking up a yellow card in San
Jose's 2-0 loss to Seattle.
Another week where I'm getting an update on former Wizards early. There are some PDL games and
games in Colombia that have former Wizards in them that I'll be updating. Here is the first update
though. Two former Wizards saw red this weekend, both in the same game, as John Wilson and Amir
Lowery both were red carded in the Charleston-Carolina game this weekend.
Another week of updates on former Wizards. The big European leagues are winding down as Eddie
Johnson's season is over and Matt Taylor's will be over soon. I'll be providing an update to this
write up as Vancouver and Charleston are both playing tonight.
MLS
Nick Garcia - San Jose Earthquakes - The Earthquakes were off this past week.
