November 8, 2009 Stade de Gerland, Lyon 3:00 EST (21:00CET, 20:00GMT)
Sunday evening it's back to work. But hopefully, it's not one of those usual Monday morning,
sloping, sluggish, I need a liter of coffee to get through the day, back to works, because aside
from the heart wrenching matches against Cesspool in the CL, Lyon have been afflicted with a
general malaise probably since week eight in the PSG match, and need this victory to put some pep
back in their step.
Click to continue reading...
Olympique de Marseille emerged triumphant against FC Zurich on Matchday 3, and Matchday 4 was no
different, as the Ligue 1 side comfortably eased past their opponents on home soil. Silvan Aegerter
scored an own-goal to begin the proceedings, while Fabrice Abriel, Mamadou Niang, Hilton, Benoit
Cheyrou, and Brandao added one each to showcase the dominance. Click to continue reading...
France's Ligue 1 is in full effect and its hottest team is Olympique Lyonnais. Brazilian playmaker
Michel Bastos scored the game winner in Lyon's 1-0 home win against Lorient. Claude Puel's team
have won 4 straight matches to move into 2nd place behind Bordeaux on goal differential. Lyon have
been doing it with defense allowing only 1 goal during their winning streak. Click to continue reading...
Note the day in your diary: Sunday 30th August 2009 – the day Bordeaux's record breaking run of
consecutive wins finally came to an end. Not that it saw a change in leader at the top of the Ligue
1 table – Les Girondins' 0-0 draw at Marseille means they remain the team to beat in France. Bordeaux's run of fourteen back-to-back league wins that started in mid-March 2009 finally ended
following a goalless draw at the Stade Velodrome. Click to continue reading...
French Ligue 1 is as exciting as ever even though we didn't see too many surprises last weekend.
Marseille are the only one of the title contenders that failed to win in round 3, while four teams
are yet to take any points this season. To cut a long story short, here is the Team of the Week for
round 3.

With team-mates like this, who needs an opposition? This has just had me doubled up in laughter, so
hopefully it will have the same effect on you. It has often been a criticism levelled at Boudewijn
Zenden that he drifts in and out of games too much, but this really takes the biscuit. Bolo found

4 seeds are the new 3 seeds; or, Transylvanians, Cypriots & Belarusians are legit. BATE were very
fortunate to be eying a blonde Austrian rather than a turban-sporting Italian in net, but they were
never predicted to sneak a deserved point. Cluj proved their Roma win was no fluke, even if they
used a vastly different [. Click to continue reading...
Group standings. Group A FC Porto 1, Liverpool 1 Jermaine Pennant was sent off with 30 minutes

Gordon Strachan's Celtic side continued their abysmal run of away form in the Champions League. The
Scottish side were unable to transfer their domestic form to the Champions League. The match was
effectively over as a contest before it was ten minutes old, after five minutes Brandao put the
home side ahead, putting a through ball [...] Click to continue reading...
In a match that will never be confused with the word 'classic', Shakhtar Donestk pulled out all the
stops, dirty or otherwise, to get the job done and make Cristiano Lucarelli's Champions League
dreams come true. Despite being gift-wrapped by the officials, it was still a little too close for
comfort as the Girnyky needed probably the only aesthetically-pleasing play of the second half to
seal the deal. Click to continue reading...
