And you thought New York had beef with Beckham last week? Please. Hatred from the opposing fans is
one thing, but hatred from the home supporters who feel a bit like a woman scorned is some whole
other sh*t. After enduring more than a little stick from the Riot Squad during last night's
friendly versus AC Milan, Becks apparently lost the plot for a minute and challenged a fan to take
it outside --or take it to the field as it were since they were already outside.
According to TMZ, "David Beckham didn't grab the mechanical bull by the horns -- but dude
definitely appreciated the busty, jiggling ladies who did last night at the Saddle Ranch." What, no
love for Alan Gordon? The only thing featured more prominently in this clip than his mug is the
bull's ass.
The world "escape" is just so dramatic, even when it is not attached to a story involving
hardened criminals, mental patients or tigers from the local zoo. It is particularly dramatic when
applied to a pair of well-paid soccer players and their troubled club. Mark Zeilger brings the
Broadway.
It took less than 30 minutes for Beckham's banger against Barça it to make it to the interwebs.
This was scored in the 44th minute and as I type this we're less than 5 minutes into the second
half. As unsavory as some of his traits may be, dude can get it done on the field (scoring dead
balls) and off the field (scoring attention) like no other.
Something called World Business --which you could assume is like Forbes for foreigners--does their
take on the always popular "Is soccer succeeding in America?"-piece. They never get tired of that
one do they?
"Beckham Punks Out." That's the title of Forbes.com's blog post on David Beckham today.
Kinda crass, but so much more awesome that it came from a publication as uppity as Forbes. The only
thing in the piece that equals the first line is the last line: "Never offer a big contract to
an athlete that has a line of fragrances.
Let it be known that in return for extending David Beckham's loan to AC Milan, Major League Soccer
received Arab money"Jozy Altidore money". The Don revealed it all today and basically said he
doesn't care who's paying him just as long as he's getting paid. So gangta. Glad to see that they
didn't give up the cash cow with putting something else into the pasture.
At the end of this clip dude says that we have to admit that soccer is becoming an American sport
and I feel a little uneasy about agreeing with someone on Fox Hate Network about anything. This is
easily a low point for me, even worse than the night I drove around Dallas in a white Humvee
limousine with Korn looking for topless bars.
I've remained mum on the whole Becks-A.C. Milan thing for far too long. After seeing this clip of
Fabio Capello (courtesy of Dave The Hedgehog) being treated to a lap dance on a talk show I think
he should stay; if this is they way they treat managers, God knows what kind of debauched
delicacies await Becks when he visits the Vinny Vedecci show.
There were three main parties involved with the Beckham loan/sideshow: LA Galaxy/MLS, AC Milan and
Camp Beckham (obviously). Now there are positives and negatives for each side in this thing but no
matter what tehy say in the press I don't think that any of them left the negotiation table feeling
wholly satisfied.
With less than a week out from the release of Grant Wahl's The Beckham Experiment, further
revealations come to us via The Associated Press. Among them are that ESPN paid Beckham's
Management to produce an hour-long TV special in 2007, Alexi Lala's over-ruled the voting results
and gave the team MVP award to Chris Klein which allegedly cost Landon Donovan $25,000 in bonus
cash and that David Beckham is good to stay in the Seacaucus Sheraton (which, let's be honest, most
of us are).
Sorry to bring up old sh*t but the Grant Wahl intro, subtitled response and closing comments to
this video really makes it worth the rewind. Add this to his SI.com piece today and I think people
will cease to remember the feud with Donovan pretty quicky because all the talk may soon be of his
feud with Grant Wahl.
I would like to see Landon and David as a tag team wrestling duo. No masks though, because they are
too pretty for that and it would take away from the gate receipts (got to keep the ladies, and AEG
--who would be the exclusive promoters for all of their bouts-- happy). The could each have
signature moves though; Landon could cross himself before he jumps from the top rope and David
could deliver a paralyzing free kick to the groin.

For some time now, SI.com's Grant "I was on Charlie Rose once" Wahl has been working on a
book about Beckham's time in America entitled "The Beckham Experiment". I haven't heard
it from Grant himself --I don't really know him but I've sat in the same room with him on many
occasions--but people tell me he was given a decent amount of access to Becks, his people & and the
Galaxy organization for the project.
So the LA Times is reporting that Brand Beckham, LA Galaxy & AC Milan have worked out some bizarre
scenario to get everyone what they want; Milan gets Becks for the remainder of the season, Becks
gets out of LA (eventually) and LA still gets to milk the man for all he is worth.
The basic rundown is that he finishes the season in Milan, sits out six weeks waiting for the MLS
transfer window to open on July 15th.
In addition to his Sportscenter bit, Beckham also spent some of the morning with Matt Lauer. You
have to do The Today Show to get back in the good graces of America's retirees,
stay-at-home Moms and shut-ins. Will they buy it? I dunno but I bet they just loved that bit with
Al & Merideth painting those nudes.
Would-be St. Louis expansion club investor/operator Jeff Cooper stumped for his bid, and MLS in
general, on the BBC. I'm sure he's a nice guy and he certainly seems media-trained but the goatee
coupled with his apparent ease with being filmed in such casual attire and in the courtyard of a
local apartment complex do little to dispel the notion that his is a low-dough bid.
I saw this clip on Sportscenter and nearly spit out my drink*. It's one thing for The Beckham
Experiment to get all this attention in the soccersphere but it's some whole other sh*t for it to
make it on to ESPN. Maybe John Anderson is right; Oprah's couch --with an assist from Dr. Phil--
just might be the place to get this beef squashed.
Well thank God that's over...
Allegedly. According to Kelly Ripa.
Speaking with Grant Wahl yesterday he joked that he now has as many publicist as David Beckham.
Judging by the amount of TV appearances, interviews, articles and attention the guy has had in the
last two weeks I would say they are doing a bang up job; these days the dude is as omnipresent as
bruises on a barfly.
I'm impressed by two things in this clip. First and foremost it has to be said that for all his
faults, ol' Goldenballs is easily the best dressed dude to ever appear on Sportscenter; have you
seen some of the things Michael Irvin has worn on there? Good God!
The other thing I like is that the first question asked was about his back and whether he'll be
able to go against Barcelona.
Becks and Noel Gallagher, formerly of Oasis, are set to boldly go where no Adidas advert has gone
before. All I ask is that Snoop Dogg play the role of Khan. If we can get that worked out I'm good.
Just so long as he's not a Klingon as that would just be so obvious as he kind of looks like a
Klingon.
You may have recently read that Bruce Arena received the award for Coach of the Year for rescuing
the LA Galaxy from the depths of the last few seasons all the way to the Western Conference final.
The most high-profile part of his salvage job was the healing of the San Andreas Fault-sized rift
between Lando & Becks.
Finally. I was beginning to wonder if they would ever announce the terms of Landon's loan. Seems
short --like Becks'-- to me but at least Galaxy fans might breathe a little easier knowing that
they won't be starting from scratch this season. Not that it got them anywhere last season but
still it's better than nothing.
Which is more dramatic? Becks second goal for AC MIlan --which by the way is the type of set piece
wonder he's yet to unleash in MLS -- or all the "will he stay or will he go" back and
forth between MLS, The Galaxy and the Italians?
The answer is neither: MacBecks is where the real drama is.
You can pretty much ignore the "Is he really back with LA?" bit at the beginning of the
clip because that seems to change by the day. More interesting is the money talk in the middle. As
the Leprechaun™ points out, MLS is a frugal league to begin with so while it may have to make
some cutbacks it may not suffer as bad as some other sports during the recession; if you're used to
eating off of the McDonald's dollar menu it ain't no thing to start eating Ramen.
See that guy in the photo above that looks like a pc? His name is Cathal Kelly and he's a columnist
for the Toronto Star. Today he's written one of the most misinformed reads about MLS (and David
Beckham) that I have ever laid brown eyes upon. I don' t know how many minutes he spent doing
research.

And so begins the next phase of the David Beckham charm offensive. You may recall him taking to the
Sportscenter and Today Show airwaves a few months ago at the onset of his Italian tryst to calm the
nerves of the nation's obviously disappointed cougars and soccer fans. With the Serie A season now
over and his Los Angeles-based work release program due to resume next month, dude is out on the
campaign trail trying to win back broken hearts and disinterested minds from a swank Milanese hotel
with the help of my all-time favorite Price is Right afficianado own Kyle Martino.
Unnecessary. That is all.
First off I apologize for the lack of & brevity of posts lately; trying to grind on the jobhunt and
take advantage of some time with the family so I haven't been chained to the computer as per usual.
Please forgive me (and the multiple spelling errors due to the rushed nature of my recent output).
Shaka Hislop, Adrian Healy and Middlesbrough legend (if such a thing really exists) Robbie Mustoe
on the current Shaq and Kobe-esque issues between Goldenballs and Lando. To be honest (and a jerk)
I can't say I didn't see it coming. Shaka seems to think alot of it is down to cultural differences
between U.
Talking about the return of Brand Beckham is like playing peewee soccer: everybody gets a chance to
play. Looks like it's the Extra Time crew's turn.
In addition to Regis & Kelly, Becks was on the Today Show this morning...where he gave Matt Lauer
the suit off his back.
Video: David Beckham's Exclusive Interview
16 minutes with Nick Webster and some bloke.
OK, I think it's gotten out of control now. Not my constant posting of Beckham-related video
because that sh*t is a traffic goldmine only rivaled by posts whose titles contain a combination of
the words "hot" and "teen" in a way that could get you an unwanted cameo on "To Catch A Predator".
The Beckham Experiment media blitz rolls on and if you live in Brooklyn it's rolling your way
tomorrow night. Author Grant "Watch how I ball" Wahl will be in D.U.M.B.O at the Varsity Letters
event alongside ESPN writer Wright Thompson and New York Times writer Bruce Weber, author of As
They See 'Em: A Fan's Travels in the Land of Umpires, at Gelf Magazine's free event at Jan
Larsen Art Studios.
