In Praise Of… Floodlit Football

Twohundredpercent 30 September @ 04:42 AM EST

Since the start of the new season, there has hardly been week go by that hasn't seen a full roster of midweek matches take place. This, however, hasn't ever been thus and until surprisingly recently football under floodlights was all but barred by the Football Association. Much as many of us feel that three o'clock on a Saturday afternoon is the "natural" home for matches, there remains something special about matches played in the evening.

Ipswich Town

"There's just one or two areas where we are coming up short at the moment.

Liverpool Kop 10 September @ 04:06 AM EST
Before the likes of Gerry Byrne, Ron Yeats, Tommy Smith and Jamie Carragher, the defender who had his opponents shaking in their boots was Liverpool's original hard man, Walter Wadsworth from Bootle.
After reading through several match reports at the time it becomes quite evident that Wadsworth was the quintessential tough man who refs had on quite a few occasions give a talking to because of the severity of his challenges. Click to continue reading...

ÂŁ6m Shelvey Could be a Tottenham Star in the Making

Caught Offside 08 September @ 05:01 AM EST

Harry should make Charlton an offer they can't refuse!

17 year old Jonjo Shelvey may well have signed a new deal at Charlton but If I were Harry Redknapp I would work out a deal that suits all parties to secure the future of the hugely impressive teenager.

In much the same way that the Tottenham boss purchased Kyle Walker from Sheffield United and then loaned him straight back to Bramall Lane, Redknapp should attempt to orchestrate a similar deal for the Addicks man.

Harry's been a busy man!

Peter Crouch

Dirty old eagle – Neil Warnock

Soccer Pie 02 September @ 01:07 AM EST

The younger ones of us remember the old fox when he was at the helm of the modest Sheffield United squad in the Premier League, season 2006/07. No one expected them to almost survive in the elite, the team whose best striker was John Stead and best players Phil Jagielka and experienced back Keath Gillespie.

10 Footballing Cricketers (And Vice Versa)

Twohundredpercent 08 July @ 06:33 PM EST

Seeing as how the Ashes have started and England aren't - at the time of writing - being thrashed seven shades of black and blue by Australia (though there is plenty of time for that to happen over the next few weeks or so), we thought that now would be an appropriate time to have a quick look back at the (now dying) breed of sportsman that combined their summer sport with their winter sport.

Keogh sets standard for Harewood to follow

A View From The South Bank 14 April @ 05:53 AM EST
Some people just would not listen, but I always told you Andy Keogh was a good player.
So how poetic it was that the win which will define Wolves' season had the young Irish striker as its focal point.
Over 99 league appearances, no other Wolves player has so polarised opinion in the Mick McCarthy era. Click to continue reading...
