In January, I cast an eye on the unending cacophony of abuse in online football communities, with
a section on Doncaster Rovers website Viva Rovers, and provoking a compelling spate of comments
involving Leeds United blog, The Scratching Shed. The problems are not confined to Yorkshire alone,
but as an important follow up, Michael Wood here provides an epitaph on the Bradford City site, Boy
from Brazil, one of the very best chronicles online and one that closed towards the end of 2011.

The FA Cup has lost some of its prestige with the rise of the Premier League but Sunday's clash
between Manchester United and Manchester City was a glimpse at the drama knockout competitions can
provide in a 3-2 win for United.
United were up by three goals before halftime thanks to two goals from Wayne Rooney and a
stunning strike from Danny Welbeck.

Shooting practice Football club calendars are usually a selection of 12 action shots of players
fronted with a nice corporate cover (unless you're Bradford City, of course). But no so at Napoli.
The Serie A outfit got their players to don an array of strange costumes as they shot their quirky
2012 calendar.

Following the recent untimely demise of Bradford City blog, Boy from Brazil, our latest guest post
comes from Bantams fan Richard Beecham . Richard is a trainee journalist who was recently published
by the Leeds Scribbler site – follow him on Twitter at @RichardBeecham. 'Why don't you just
support Leeds?
That Bantam's a Tiger Here's the Bradford City 2012 calendar: the perfect Christmas present for
Bantams supporters. And Hull fans too, it would seem. A lazy designer has created a cover for the
calendar that features an array of Bradford player, plus Hull City's Dele Adebola. The mix-up
happened because the photo of Adebola [.

Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear. Bradford City have requested that their 2012 calendar be removed from
stockists after being alerted to the fact that it featured Dele Adebola on the cover Adebola being
a Hull City player.
Sorry.
Those are the toilets area in which one is supposed to dispose of bodily waste of Ebbsfleet
United, the club which became famous as part of that fan-ownership experiment some years back,
leading to the theory that the common man doesn't care much about the loo. They're taking part in
and currently leading a competition to find the worst restrooms in English football, the "winner"
of which will get £100k in order to spruce up the facilities with a nice TOTO setup, one would
imagine.
The Forgotten Story of ... the English Super Cup | Jacob Steinberg
After English clubs were banned from Europe in 1985, the Football League created a consolation
competition for them Have you heard the one about the English Super League featuring Liverpool and
Manchester United?
"Soccer attracts more hackneyed hyperbole than most sports. We talk about "tragedy" when we mean
"disappointment" and "disaster" when we mean "defeat". When real tragedy and disaster occur, we
tend to be stuck for the rights words." Those words, written by David Lacey of the Guardian a
quarter of a century ago, ring as true today as they did when they were written in the aftermath of
the Bradford fire of 1985.

Bradford fire survivor attacks judge over Hillsborough comments
• Criticism of Hillsborough families branded 'disgraceful' • Retired judge told them to drop
'conspiracy theories' A survivor of the 1985 fire at Bradford City in which 56 people died has
profoundly criticised the judge who conducted the official inquiry into that disaster and who this
week unfavourably compared the response of families bereaved by the Hillsborough disaster to those
of Bradford.
First John Henry and Fenway Sports Group were out to destroy the glory of English football. Then
there was Suarezgate—at least until the long needed debate on Hillsborough in parliament bumped
that to the back burner. In the midst of all that there was the small matter of a match against
Manchester United to round things out.
Retired judge tells Hillsborough families to drop ‘conspiracy theories' and sparks
fury among campaigners
Sir Oliver Popplewell chaired the public inquiry into the death of 56 fans at Bradford City's
stadium in a fire in 1985, and tells those affected to act with 'quiet dignity'

Former judge tells Hillsborough families to drop 'conspiracy theories'
• Sir Oliver Popplewell says families should move on • Says Bradford disaster families
showed 'quiet dignity' A retired judge has sparked fury by calling on the Hillsborough families to
drop their "conspiracy theories" and behave more like the relatives of victims of the Bradford City
stadium disaster.
A former judge has controversially called on the Liverpool families involved in the Hillsborough
disaster to behave more like the relatives of victims of the Bradford City stadium disaster.
In an ill-advised letter to The Times, Sir Oliver Popplewell, who chaired the public inquiry into
the 1985 fire at the Valley Parade stadium that killed 56 people, argued:
"The citizens of Bradford behaved with quiet dignity and great courage.

here's the League Two preview!
Who's Looking Good?
Crawley Town: Most bookies favourites, Crawley have the biggest budget in the
league, momentum to die for, and probably the deadliest striker in the division in Matt Tubbs.

Klasnic rolls away after finishing the performance
And the Whites go marching on, on, on through their preseason with an impressive showing against
Bradford City AFC at Valley Parade in front of 295 Wanderers supporters among the 2,943 in
attendance. The 4-1 scoreline provided Bolton with their third consecutive win this preseason.
It's the preseason that doesn't stop! Just yesterday the squad returned from their (highly
successful) U.S. tour (deemed to be the "longest trip ever" by Marcos Alonso) and today they travel
to the fantastically named Valley Parade to take on Bradford City. It won't be foreign ground for
Robbie Blake, who spent 5 years at the club.

FC Dallas midfielder Eric Avila may soon be playing in Mexico.
Avila is on his way to Guadalajara to potentially seal a six-month loan to Primera Division side
Atlas, FC Dallas announced on Friday. Should he join Atlas, he would be the second MLS player to go
there this season after Chicago sold Gaston Puerari to Atlas a couple of weeks ago.

"I am not a man of many words but I can honestly say that playing football is all I have

24 major honours later, it comes to an end.
Paul Scholes is a "great role model for any young English midfield player," mused Jack
Wilshere on Twitter this morning and indeed that is an accurate reflection of the man who must go
down as England's finest midfield player of this generation.
Ten years ago, Bradford City were a Premier League Club. Since then, they have dropped to
League Two, had two spells in administration, and it still doesn't look as if their future is
getting any brighter. Jason MacKeown reports on their latest woes.
Following a decade of regular failure, Bradford City supporters have become used to seeing
pre-season expectations shattered by this point of the year.
Having already added a boatload of new faces in the off-season, Toronto FC has found one more
European player to bring in and bolster the defense.
TFC has brought in defender Richard Eckersley on loan from Burnley. A right back by trade,
Eckersley previously played for TFC director of player development Paul Mariner at Plymouth
Argyle.
