Sent this to The Times today
Sir,
Unfortunately I will no longer be buying The Times due to your parent company's association with
the News of the World and its actions by standing by Rebekah Brooks. I know this scandal is nothing
to do with The Times and it is with a heavy heart I end my longstanding loyalty to your fine
newspaper however I have no other way of protesting and voicing my utter disgust at this vile
episode and the arrogance your parent company has displayed.
22 years later The Sun boycott continues. Every day of the week.
Liverpool supporters don't buy The Sun and haven't done so for 22 years. The decision in 1989 by
the then-editor of the ‘paper', Kelvin MacKenzie, to publish a catalogue of complete lies under a
massive headline proclaiming it as "The Truth" saw a boycott begin that still holds strong to this
day.
A stalwart of the anti-apartheid sport boycott movement, Isiah Stein, has passed away in the UK.
After serving time in prison with Nelson Mandela in the mid-1960s, Stein left South Africa for
Britain where he worked tirelessly with the exiled South African Non-Racial Olympic Committee
(SANROC).
Group hug!
I'm trying very hard to get this blog hopping again, and I really appreciate the welcome you've
all given me! I've never done anything quite like this before, so I hope you'll excuse any
blundering as I feel my way in the exciting world of sports blogging. Now, I know there's a whole
lot of you out there, passing your eyes over these words, but not commenting - the numbers tell me
so!
Yet another objectively evil regime was hosting yet another Summer Olympics, and someone asked
Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice about a boycott. She spoke out strongly against it.
Quote: "I do not think the boycott of the '80 Olympics was very effective. In fact, I think it
looked feckless," she said.
It had been hoped that, when Halesowen Town of the Zamaretto League Premier Division entered
into administration in September of 2009 that their problems might finally be starting to come to
an end. The club exited administration after having been bought by the brothers Graham and Godfrey
Ingram (Godfrey was a former player with Luton Town, just in case the name is ringing any bells)
and the Supporters Trust, which had been boycotting thee club on account of the mismanagement of
previous owner Morrell Maison, cautiously ended the boycott of the club that had seen crowds slump
by 70% to only around the 100 mark.
Ronnie Whelan and Ray Houghton were last night under intense pressure from Liverpool supporters to
withdraw from an RTE television program sponsored by The Irish Sun newspaper.
The two former Liverpool and Ireland players are being criticized by supporters of the club because
of their involvement in the planned live screening of Premier Soccer Sunday on May 1, sponsored by
the paper.
On Monday, shortly before RTÉ released a public statement about the issue, a text came through:
Ronnie Whelan and Ray Houghton would not now be appearing on the Sun-sponsored ‘Premier Soccer
Sunday'.
The decision to remove them from the show was thanks to the tireless campaigning of Irish Reds and
came as a huge relief.

This Week in Soccer History: 1976 - Ace comes for the Kicks
On April 26, 1976, the Minnesota Kicks signed South African great Patrick "Ace" Ntsoelengoe for
their inaugural season. During that season, Ace went on to score five goals in his first five games
and became an instant fan favorite for amazing footwork on the field and his shockingly shy
personality off of it.
Why Chelsea should threaten Malaysian boycott in wake of anti-Semitism
Chelsea are a difficult football club to love. Their default mode is one of snarling
introspection. Yet credit where it is due. They stood up for Yossi Benayoun's human rights. The
Malaysian FA's apology, for anti-Semitic abuse, didn't go far enough A threat to refuse any more
pre-season friendlies should do the trick.

Love ARSENAL... Hate SKY this is my new mantra as many of you will be aware following my
earlier rant. Now today the papers are full of "Crisis at The Emirates" If Gunners fail CL
challenge Arsene Wenger will be on borrowed time. John Cross of the Mirror had better apologise for
his article on 18th August 2011 where he trumpeted arrogantly "It's the Arsenal fans who are
turning on Wenger, not the media" well using the evidence of my own eyes today, I don't see Gooners
working for the tabloid rubbish that they issue as "copy".
After going seven years without speaking to the BBC, Sir Alex Ferguson has now put an end to the
boycott and will replace Mike Phelan as the voice of Manchester United on MOTD.
"Sir Alex and the BBC have put behind them the difficulties which led to Sir Alex feeling
unable to appear on BBC programmes.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has ended his 7 year BBC boycott
after agreeing to put the past behind them.
Fergie hasn't given an interview to the BBC since 2004 when they broadcast a programme which
insinuated his Son Jason was a corrupt football agent.
Fergie had received a series of fines last season as he went against protocol whereby managers
must make themselves available to broadcasters who pay to cover matches.

Don't Buy The Sun – the concert
Impressive line-up for the 24th September gig ONE campaign that always unites supporters of both
of Merseyside's Premier League clubs is a campaign that has been going for 22 years and remains as
strong now as it was the day it began.
Hillsborough families call on the Sun to reveal sources of disaster story
Demand comes as MPs consider e-petition calling for 'full government disclosure' over 1989
football ground disaster The chair of the Hillsborough Family Support Group has called on the Sun
to reveal the identities of its sources for a notorious story which in effect blamed Liverpool fans
for causing the 1989 disaster, in which 96 of the club's supporters died.
The Sun's Hillsborough source has never been a secret it was the police
I see that the Hillsborough family support group has called on The Sun to reveal the sources for
its notorious story about the 1989 football disaster in which 96 people died. The paper ran a
splash, headlined THE TRUTH, which blamed Liverpool fans for causing the tragedy.
Belgian side Racing Genk visit Stamford Bridge on Wednesday in what appears, at least on paper,
to be our simplest European match of the season. A win here and a win in the subsequent trip to
Belgium would probably wrap up advancement for us into the knockout stages. Lots to play for today,
then, plus it's a chance to get a proper look at the young attacking prospect below.

I read with some interest the news from Ivan Gazidis that away fans could potentially be moved
from their current position in the lower tier at the Emirates to the upper tier of the Clock End
that houses away fans in cup ties.
Whilst I think this is a great idea in principal, this suggestion has raised a few questions
that I'm sure will need addressing.
