The Injury Gremlins Strike Yet Again!

Arsenal Insider 16 November @ 08:40 AM EST

by VIC CRESCIT Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Somebody at the club must have repeatedly run over a black cat in a tank. Yet again the injury curse has struck. Robin van Persie will be out, as things stand at the moment, for at least six weeks. He did his right ankle ligaments landing badly after a tackle playing for the Netherlands in their goalless draw in a friendly against Italy in the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara on Saturday.

Rafa Deserves Better Treatment By Liverpool

Anfield Talk 09 October @ 11:05 AM EST
On May 17, 1990, Manchester United beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in the FA Cup Final replay to win the first silverware of Sir Alex Ferguson's 22-year reign at Old Trafford. It had taken the Scot three-and-a-half years to achieve it, but 32 trophies later the adoring Mancunian fans have no qualms about the bedding-down period Ferguson was granted. Stoke City vs Manchester United: Preview

Red Rants 26 September @ 01:27 AM EST

Having edged into the fourth round of the Carling Cup, albeit with an ultimately monotonous performance, the Premier League returns for United on Saturday and a somewhat tricky trip to the Britannia Stadium awaits.

Stoke have started the season in a pretty decent fashion having picked up seven points already and been extremely unfortunate not to have come away with something more last weekend against Bolton and previously against Chelsea too.

Las Fútbolistas (Great Grandma on the Left Wing)

From a Left Wing 17 September @ 11:54 AM EST
"Las Fútbolistas" Ángel Zárraga (Mexico, 1886-1946)
A friend recommended this painting to me - amazing, given the year it was painted and the commonly held view that women's football is a recent phenomenon spearheaded by post Title IX generations of American women. By chance, I happen to be just finishing Barbara Jacobs's incredible portrait of perhaps the most successful and famous side in English women's football, The Dick, Kerr's Ladies (see also this recent Guardian story). Rushden Preview

FC Boro 28 August @ 04:13 PM EST

Rushden & Diamonds are next up for Boro as they look to bounce back from their defeat last weekend to Oxford United. The 2-1 loss at the Kassam Stadium was Boro's only defeat of the season so far although the Hertfordshire club have also only won 1 match out of the 5 played. Rushden have faired slightly better recording 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat in their opening 5 games.

Does Fergie Have Time For One Last Revolution?

The Offside: Manchester United 23 July @ 03:02 AM EST

Regarding Manchester United and the transfer window, there have been a few points that have consistently weighed on the mind of many a United supporter. Perhaps most notably, there is the fact that United were (by all accounts) completely played off the pitch by a Barcelona side that were missing three of their big-time players.

Tamworth up first for Boro

FC Boro 03 July @ 04:21 PM EST

Stevenage's 16th consecutive season in the Blue Square Premier will kick off at home against newly promoted Tamworth on the 8th August. The opening week of the new season couldn't of been nicer for Graham Westley's side with a home fixture against a newly promoted club to start off with and then two away fixtures against two teams liklier to be at the bottom end of the table come April.

The H List - End Of Year Ramblings (Part 4)

In our brave, new, post Curbishley world it is fair to say that most were fairly underwhelmed by the prospect of an untried, untested Italian at the helm. Click to continue reading...

Anfield awakens Mardenborough memories

A View From The South Bank 21 June @ 11:43 AM EST
If you were only allowed to attend one Wolves game next season in the Premier League, what would it be?
For me, it's the Boxing Day trip to Anfield, provoking magical memories of my trip to Liverpool in January 1984.
No-one gave us a chance, even though Liverpool were without the injured Kenny Dalglish, as the team anchored to the foot of the table arrived on Merseyside. Click to continue reading...

2009/10 Fixtures released

| Post Match Pint 17 June @ 04:25 AM EST
It's one of the most exciting days of the football calendar, partly because there is little else going on!
The fixtures are out and we open up against........................
Arsenal!
A tough one but it should be a good game, at least we are at home, I love the buzz ahead of the first game of the season. Click to continue reading...

Congratulations David Moyes

EPL Talk 29 May @ 09:36 AM EST

No no I am not jumping the gun about the result of FA Cup Final.

But even if Everton lose on Saturday David Moyes can have the consolation of collecting a personal piece of silverware this season - The LMA Manager Of The Year Award.

It is the first time a manager has won the award three times, after the Scot received the accolade in 2003 and 2005 - even Sir Alex Ferguson hasn't done that!

Managerial Overconfidence And Rookie Mistakes Leave Hull City On The Precipice

Just-Football 13 May @ 03:28 AM EST

Football on Easter Sunday? Heaven forbid!

OK Football Finder 14 April @ 02:00 AM EST

Football and religion

Dr John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York, has criticised the Premier League for scheduling games on Easter Sunday, saying it should be a day to spend time with those we love. I like Dr Sentamu. He speaks a lot of sense, most recently suggesting that making St George's Day a national holiday could promote unity in England.

I want my granny back

Spurs musings from JimmyG2 30 December @ 10:57 AM EST
.You can always tell what sort of match it was by where it comes on the Match of the Day running order. I watched the Fulham game and knew we would be on last even though there was the traditional full programme, just like the good old days on Saturday afternoons.
A 0-0 draw is almost certain to be last anyway, even Hanson, a defender, still finds it hard to appreciate the qualities in a goalless encounter, though not as much as Lineker and Shearer obviously. Click to continue reading...

Click to continue reading...

Snakes and Ladders

Spurs musings from JimmyG2 17 December @ 12:11 PM EST
Last season it was Roller Coasters: this season its Snakes and Ladders. It certainly was this week; we got four points to go up the ladder, but lost Woodgate and Jenas to possible serious injuries. We gave an excellent team performance to take a point off Man. U but with Newcastle winning at Portsmouth we slid down the snake again to hover one point above the relegation places. The 50 Best Players in the World

Nothing else to talk about, so I will fall back on this for today. Thankfully, it's La Liga preview tomorrow, so I won't have to spend ages on another list.
This list is the 50 best players now. It therefore will not include any has beens who's talent might be rekindled (sorry R10) and no wonderkids who remain just that. Click to continue reading...

Premier League in Preview: Late Season Survival

The Third Half 08 August @ 12:55 AM EST

So here we are again taking a look at the upcoming season. I would like to thank those who took the time to let me know how much they enjoyed the first round of previews.
It's funny when I was coming up with the names for the categories I am fitting these teams into, late season survival was one of the first ones I came up with.

Euro 2008 Top Six: Missing Turkey players

Who Ate All the Pies 25 June @ 09:26 AM EST
Just like after Boxing Day supper, Turkey are down to the bare bones. Here's the six players they could have done with to help them beat Germany tonight 1. Arda Turan Arda would be in my team of the tournament, but he won't be in Turkey's team tonight. Despite being a skilful winger rather than a tough-tackling midfielder, the youngster has acquired the dreaded two yellow cards and will have to watch the semi-final from the stands. Hull!

Craven Cottage Newsround 16 June @ 04:07 AM EST
Hull away to start the season! It's illegal to copy fixture lists so here is the link. Then Arsenal home and Man Utd away. My birthday fixture is Sunderland away (following Sheffield Utd away and Bolton away in the last two seasons). Boxing Day is Spurs away again.  Pretty good. We finish the season Stoke home, Chelsea away, Villa home, [. Click to continue reading...

Boxing Day Bonanza

Some People are On The Pitch 27 December @ 05:51 AM EST
Boxing Day. A national holiday in British Commonwealth countries whose traditions relate to the giving of Christmas boxes (or presents) to friends and family. Nothing to do with Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali or any other famous pugilists, for that matter.
In England, another Boxing Day tradition is the playing of football matches as part of the Christmas festivities, and yesterday was no different. Click to continue reading...

Newcastle Will Thinking Outside The Box

Magpies Zone 25 December @ 12:03 PM EST

Newcastle United away form on Boxing Day were always inside the box and already suffering seven defeats and three draws. Tomorrow we will have Wigan and their new boss, Steve "the Geordie" Bruce.

Without being negative, we are also have poor away records at JJB Stadium.
