The Oscars they're not

There's been a slew of awards handed out in recent weeks to honour those who have made the Premier League season just passed a memorable one. Wayne Rooney won the PFA and FWA awards for his outstanding campaign up front for Man United, while Harry Redknapp and Roy Hodgson were chosen by league sponsor's Barclay's and the League Managers Association as their respective managers of the year.

The following piece by Pedro45 from Charlton Athletic Online was originally left as a comment to a post looking at Jonjo Shelvey. Given the insight that it provides about the midfielder signed from Charlton, I thought that it deserves a post of its own.
This was a funny year for Jonjo, and it really didn't go as we all hoped or maybe expected.

On the eve of a new Premier League season, two sides are enjoying a free-ride from many football observers. I aim to set the record straight, but I maintain an open mind, so if you think I am wrong, please comment.
