Roy Hodgson wants to give youth a chance but Liverpool's stars of the future may have to wait a bit
longer to get a Premier League opportunity.
Securing the likes of Dani Pacheco, 19, and Martin Kelly, 20, on extended two and three-year
contracts showed how keen the Merseysiders are to hang on to their up and coming players.
LIVERPOOL, England Liverpool is giving away free tickets to youngsters accompanied by a paying
adult in the latest bid by the team's American owners to win over supporters. Boston Red Sox and
Liverpool owner John Henry is trying to repair the Premier League club's frail relationship with
fans after buying the team in October [.
You know a manager is feeling the pressure when he starts to blame the fans, and that is exactly
what Roy Hodgson did today.
Hodgson's side are only three points above the relegation zone after last night's 1-0 defeat at
home to bottom side Wolves and he was not happy to hear the Kop singing the name of former player
and manager Kenny Dalglish, a living legend at Anfield, and also ironic chants of "Hodgson for
England".
According to multiple reports, the Boston Red Sox are close to acquiring Adrian Gonzalez from
the San Diego Padres. The Red Sox have long coveted Gonzalez and it appears as if a trade could be
consummated any day now. The 28-year-old first baseman hit .298 last season with 31 homers and 101
RBIs.
Over the last four season, Gonzalez has emerged as a superstar in the National League.
In a surprising development, the Washington Nationals have inked Jayson Werth to a seven-year,
$126 million deal. It's surprising that the Nationals opened up their wallet and it's also
surprising that Werth decided to sign with a team that isn't a contender. The Philadelphia Phillies
were interested in re-signing him and a number of other teams, including the Boston Red Sox, wanted
to sign.
The Boston Red Sox weren't happy about not making the playoffs last year. So far this offseason,
the Red Sox have taken major steps to get back to the postseason. First, Boston traded for Adrian
Gonzalez. Next, the Red Sox signed Carl Crawford to a $142 million deal over seven seasons.
The left fielder who has spent his entire career with the Tampa Bay Rays gets a whole lot of
money but the Red Sox are getting a good buy.
Now that those idiots Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr are finally out the door at Anfield, it
appears that the time has come for the new Liverpool owners to rebuild that rift between the owners
and the fans with good cheer this holiday season. John Henry, also the owner of the Boston Red Sox,
recently decided to give away free tickets to children as a "small gesture of our appreciation of
the welcome we have been afforded so far" according to club chairman Thomas Werner.
US Soccer Players' columnist Jason Davis works through the early issues facing New England Sports
Ventures, now in charge of the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC. By Jason Davis - WASHINGTON, DC
(Dec 15, 2010) US Soccer Players -- As an abstract concept, the same group owning both the Boston
Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club makes a lot of sense.
Liverpool FC has moved to allay fears the ownership structure of the club could lead to a repeat of
the deadlock which gripped the tenure of Tom Hicks and George Gillet.
A statement on the club's website reveals principal owner John Henry and club chairman Tom Werner
of New England Sports Ventures have 50% voting rights each.
