New president of AS Roma, Boston-based Thomas DiBenedetto, is making changes at his new
club.
Reports abound say that DiBenedetto will appoint Walter Sabatini as the new sporting director,
and after that, he is apparently turning his attention to bringing an American star over to
Italy.
During the first full week of the summer transfer window, New England Soccer Today will
examine three players that may be targeted by the New England Revolution for a summer transfer.
While the Revolution have revealed little in terms of which player(s) has been targeted, three
possibilities have emerged.
The Boston Globe has reported New England's Captain, Shalrie Joseph, has been dismissed from the
squad's Orlando training camp along with teammate Kevin Alston. Both players featured in Friday's
2-0 win over the University of Central Florida, but have not appeared in training for the past two
days.

With Steve Nicol's tenure on the New England Revolution sideline coming to an end, the search
begins to replace a coach who was a fixture with the organization for the last decade.
Former longtime Nicol assistant Paul Mariner has to be on the radar, even though he took a
position with Toronto FC as director of player development prior to this season.

It didn't take the New England Revolution that long to find a replacement for Steve Nicol. Today
the club announced the hiring of former defender Jay Heaps as their next manager.
The 35-year old Heaps is just two years removed from playing for the Revolution, where he spent
11 seasons.
The list continues to grow of former coaches and teammates who heap praise on the new coach of the
New England Revolution, Jay Heaps.

Juan Carlos Osorio has now BACKED OUT of an agreement to take over as head coach of Honduras. Late
last week it was announced that he had taken the job.
According to a report from the Boston Globe, the Revolution have reached a loan agreement with
Chacarita Juniors (Argentina) to sign defender Franco Coria to New England's roster. Terms of the
loan have not been confirmed, although it is believed that it may include language that will allow
the Revolution to purchase Coria's contract.

star Shalrie Joseph.
ORLANDO, Fla. According to a report from the Boston Globe, Revolution captain Shalrie
Joseph and defender Kevin Alston have been dismissed from the team's trip to Orlando for
disciplinary reasons.
Joseph, who was suspended last April for five games after entering the league's behavioral and
substance abuse program, and Alston both started in the club's scrimmage match against the

two full weeks to rue on yesterday before they take on San Jose at PPL Park.

While we wait for the power and heat to return to Hartford County, we thought it would be a good
time to take a look at some of the soccer coverage in mainstream media outlets around the country.
We'll start in New England, where the Boston Globe, via Revs beat reporter Frank Dell'Apa, takes a
look at the current state of the Revolution.
Let's start with the obvious... soccer bloggers, including (maybe especially) those that track
the New England Revolution, love a controversy.
Better yet, a conspiracy.
I do what I can not to jump on most of the conspiracy theory bandwagons. Really, I try.
I'll admit it though, some are hard to avoid.
The New England Revolution recently parted ways with long-time head coach Stevie Nicol, and it
appears they are going to stay within the Revs family for their new coach.
The Revs are preparing to name former defender Jay Heaps as the team's new head coach, the
Boston Globe reported on Monday.
UPDATE: Guys, this is real. No official confirmation from the team, but...look, you'll
have to trust me. It's real.
By now I'm sure you've all read the big news. The Boston Globe reports that Jay Heaps is set to
be named the next New England Revolution head coach.

Donahue/artdonahue.com)
According to the Boston Globe, Massachusetts native and former New England Revolution defender
Jay Heaps is set to be named the Revolution's sixth head coach on Tuesday. Heaps, who in 2009
retired from playing after 11 years in Major League Soccer, his final nine with the Revs, will
replace Steve Nicol who was relieved of his coaching duties after New England missed out on the
postseason for the second consecutive season this year.
I thought I might be writing about a coach tonight, but certainly not like this. I hoped to
offer commentary on Juergen Klinsmann and his lackluster start with the US Men's National
Team.
But since I've not even finished watching the USA v France game on DVR, and still don't feel the
US fan corner I watched the game from in France allowed me much perspective (too much fan-watching,
too bad an angle).
Congratulations to Jay Heaps, who appears to be the new Head Coach of the New England
Revolution.

reported in the Boston Globe.
