Pia Sundhage will leave no stones unturned, people! Today, the preliminary roster for the USWNT
training camp that will determine the (from what I understand) two different sets of eighteen
players for two separate friendlies against China in October... was announced today. And, as
various WPS teams get kicked out of the playoffs, Pia will then nab a few from those squads as
well.
*Chicago Fire defender Gonzalo Segares, who blatantly smacked Galaxy defender Leonardo in
Saturday's game, received an additional fine and one-game suspension today by the Major League
Soccer Disciplinary Committee.
Segares was sent off, but the committee "determined that due to the reckless nature of the
action that endangered the safety of his opponent, additional sanctions should be levied.

Goal.com's head-to-head preview of Saturday's match against Chivas USA has the Philly guy
predicting a 2–0 Union win and the Chivas guy a 3–1 Union win. Our preview predicts a 2–1 win
if Jonathan Bornstein plays, a 3–1 win if he doesn't.
The Daily News takes a closer look at what the Union will be doing with the $50K it won for high
school soccer in Chester.
The only thing cooler than making a roster for a Women's World Cup qualifying tournament is making
it to an actual Women's World Cup, but the former can often lead to the latter, which is why the
upcoming training camp for the U.S. Women's National Team is so important. U.S.head coach Pia
Sundhage has called in 30 players to the camp, although several will be arriving at different times
during the training period due to the WPS playoffs.
Week 21 of Women's Pro Soccer gave us six games to mark off the schedule, and a better playoff
picture. With only one week of action left in the regular season, three teams (FC Gold Pride,
Boston, and Philadelphia) secured a playoff spot, while Chicago and Atlanta were officially left
out of the playoff race.
The regular season is over, and the second year of Women's Professional Soccer saw a 23% drop in
overall average league attendance. Only the Boston Breakers were able to improve on their average
from year one, going from 4,183 per game to a league-leading 4,490. The league average went from
4,684 to 3,588, a drop of more than a thousand per game.
The Super Semifinal in the WPS Playoffs is over, and no matter if the winning goal was scored with
a hand or not, the final 2-1 result for the Philly Independence means that six Boston Breakers will
be joining U.S. WNT camp on Sunday. The USA will say hello to Lauren Cheney, Stephanie Cox, Amy
LePeilbet, Kristine Lilly, Alyssa Naeher and Lindsay Tarpley.
The final four teams standing after WPS ended its regular season were FC Gold Pride in first
place, the Boston Breakers in second place, the Philadelphia Independence in third place, and for
the second year in a row, the Washington Freedom in fourth place.
In a playoff system that gives home advantage to the top three playoff teams, the Washington
Freedom traveled up to Philadelphia to take on the Independence in the First Round.
For the first time since the folding of the St. Louis Ahletica, Women's Professional Soccer went
a week without any mid-week games, so only 3 were played on Week 20. The first match-up was not
really a match up if you only look at the score. FC Gold Pride earned the biggest win of the year
(and in both seasons of WPS) against the Atlanta Beat with a final score of 6-1.

Lindsay Tarpley (Madison) is back in form, and now she's back in camp with the
U.S. women's national team.
The Boston Breakers forward is one of 30 players named by coach Pia Sundhage to
the preliminary roster for two friendlies against China early next month.

Goal.com have a head-to-head preview of Saturday's match against the Chicago Fire. They predict
a draw. As always, our preview is much better.
Kerith Gabriel thinks Seitz may finally be sat. Nowak says who will start in goal will be a
game-time decision.
The Sons of Ben's recent send up of Kansas City coach Peter Vermes have been internationally
recognized.
Although the Independence have made the playoffs in their inaugural year, they could hardly have
done so in a less encouraging fashion.
Coming off of three losses in a row, the Independence traveled to the West Coast to face Marta
and FC Gold Pride, a team that over their first two meetings they had managed only one goal while
conceding five.

The final week of the WPS regular season determined the fourth team to grab the last playoff
spot, and who would host the Super Semi Final. Sky Blue FC and the Boston Breakers battled it out
to a scoreless draw, while FC Gold Pride finished the season as strong as ever with a 4-1 win over
the Philadelphia Independence.
It was a game that, at times, it looked like Philadelphia should have had four or five goals on
the board. Instead, it took 120 minutes for the Independence to score the only goal of the match
and earn a well-deserved win.
Sometimes, you just got to do it the hard way.
The Philadelphia Independence hosted Washington Freedom on Sunday in the first round of the WPS
playoffs and it was a nervous start for both teams.

A ten day break means time for a number of Union players to get healthy. Mwanga, Coudet and
Gonzales are all expected to be fit for Saturday's match against Chivas USA.
More on our very own Jeremiah White, who regularly follows how the Union are doing from Poland,
where he now plays. Happily, he likes what he sees.
