Friday night in Philadelphia, PUMA and Women's Professional Soccer unveiled the new 2010 WPS Home
and Away Uniforms, including the official kit debut of the newest franchises, the Atlanta Beat and
Philadelphia Independence. The launch event, which took place hours after the 2010 WPS Draft,
highlighted veteran players from the league's nine teams as well as newly drafted professional
players who proudly wore their team colors for the first time.
On Friday, Carly Peetz, a defender with the Colorado Force and the University of Nebraska, was
selected by the Boston Breakers in the Women's Professional Soccer draft. Her Force teammates, CU's
Nikki Marshall and Kansas' Estelle Johnson, also were drafted.
ColoradoSoccerNow.com caught up with Peetz after she had some time to celebrate being
picked.

As many had expected but the Atlanta Beat had yet to confirm until Draft Day, North Carolina's
Tobin Heath (Basking Ridge, NJ) was the first player selected in the 2010 WPS Draft on Friday by
Atlanta at the Philadelphia Convention Center. Heath was the first of four North Carolina
Tarheels selected during the first round (and a total of 7 UNC players) including defender Whitney
Engen at No.
Kristine Lilly is often referred to as the USA's Iron Woman, and for a good reason. Not only has
she played in 342 matches for the USA (the most capped player on the world) and scored 129 goals in
her national team career, but she has played on both professional leagues that have existed in the
US and she has done it all over the course of more than 20 years (her first international
appearance was in August 3, 1987).
Catching up on the day:
*U.S. Soccer said today a USMNT Feb. 24 exhibition at home against El Salvador is under
consideration. The U.S. has confirmed games before the World Cup begins against Honduras Jan. 23 at
Home Depot Center and the Netherlands in Amsterdam March 3.

second division Mexican team Tijuana.
While I wait for the Eagles' decisive defeat of the Cowboys tonight to get underway, I thought
I'd do a little catching up on the WPS front.
The 2010 season gets underway in April. The Breakers' home opener is Sundat, 4/18 at 6PM
against the Philly Independence who'll be bringing Heather Mitts, Kelly Schmedes, Sue Weber, and

to great players with every pick in Friday's WPS Draft.
If you go to the site of any WPS team these days you're likely to see a counter displaying the
days, hours, and minutes before opening day. We're something like three months away, with a bit of
March Madness in between, but with the days getting longer, you can definitely feel the soccer in
the air!
