It's one thing to have supporters or analysts tell you who the best players, teams, or leagues are.
Depending on who you ask or which metric you use, you can have endless arguments about quality. But
why not go directly to the source and ask the professionals themselves? After all, they have to
play the game week in and week out and see things on and off the field that spectators often don't
or can't.

Japan slipped by Qatar 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup behind a Masahiko Inoha game
winner.
The Kashima Antlers midfielder jumped on a loose ball in front of net and slotted home the
stoppage time winner. Shinji Kagawa added two goals in the effort for the Blue Samurai.
Steve Cherundolo started and played the full ninety for Hannover 96 in a disappointing Friday
encounter at the BayArena. Hannover trailed from the 21st minute and Leverkusen doubled their lead
in the 42nd. Hannover finished with three shots on goal. The result keeps them third in the
Bundesliga, trailing second-place Leverkusen by five points with both teams on 20 games played.

Which are the best soccer teams or leagues in the world? Of course we can see which teams win more
matches, and for leagues, UEFA's league coefficient allows us to answer that question with a fair
amount of precision. Less systematic but popular ways of determining league or team quality
involves looking at international head-to-head competition, or evaluating which leagues attract the
best players and managers.

The description of this week's matches has to be somewhat abbreviated because I'm busy packing
for a week-long trip to Washington and New York City. We will tell you, though, that there are two
matches bookending this weekend that feature a pair of ranked clubs. On Friday, the German
Bundesliga returns with a bang as Bayer Leverkusen hosts leader Borussia Dortmund.

Or maybe it should be Players You Were Going To Watch Anyway?
In typical FIFA fashion, they didn't quite go off grid with their selections, rather plucking
from a Wonderkid Top 10 found somewhere in the bowels of the internet, even if they did
their typical FIFA duty and picked those still plying their trade in South America and Asia (sorry,
Africa & NA) before the great navigation to Europe.
A turgid first half turned into a blistering second half, including a six minute period where
Grosskreutz scored twice and Goetze scored a third for the league leaders. A late goal by Stefan
Kiessling could not even cosmetically cover up an abject performance from the home side.
- If you want to beat the team with the stingiest defense on the counter, you can't sit back and
allow the team with the most proficient attack to come at you all day.
DORTMUND, Germany — Borussia Dortmund extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to 13
points on Friday, blitzing second-placed Bayer Leverkusen with three goals in just six minutes for

Though the club at times has looked far from invinvible this year, the fact remains that
Manchester United has gone undefeated through its first 22 Premier League matches. Perhaps the
biggest factor in the Red Devils' success so far has been the form of Bulgarian striker Dimitar
Berbatov, who added three more goals to his league-leading total of 18 in the club's 5-0 thrashing
of Birmingham City on Saturday.
He's one of the most in-demand players in Europe, plays as an attacking talent for Japan and proved
decisive in their 3-2 quarter-final win over hosts Qatar at the Asian Cup.
And his name is not Keisuke Honda.
Japan relied heavily on Borussia Dortmund star Shinji Kagawa to see off the stubborn Qataris in a
pulsating quarter-final, as the diminutive playmaker scored twice and set up the winner for
Masahiko Inoha in a come-from-behind victory.

Borussia Dortmund were playing trophy holders Juventus in Munich, and had built up a 2-0 lead by
the half, which was soon halved by an excellent and sometimes forgotten Alessandro Del Piero goal
(also a substitute).
