While staring at this photo of two Borussia Dortmund boys and their WAGs at a post-fashion show
party in honour of sweets and other high carb/high sugar delights, we were struck by one undeniable
truth: shop assistants lie. Oh, how they lie.
They lie to the innocent and cash-rich when they tell them, "Why yes, Mr Kehl, Palm Beach suits
are going to be huuuge this Spring.
We've semi-regularly tried to post a Friday "What to Watch this Weekend" (WtWtW) viewing guide.
Starting today, we'll aim to bookend that with a companion "What We Watched this Weekend" (WWWtW)
summary pulled primarily from weekend email chatter among the CultFootball crew, maybe spiced up
with some video highlights.
Tyler Polak's impressive resume should help ease his transition to the pros. (Photo Credit: Andy
Mead / MLSsoccer.com)
If Tyler Polak finds himself in the starting line-up on opening day at San Jose, the 19-year-old
should hardly be caught wide-eyed. The New England Revolution's second round draft pick has already
faced Major League Soccer competition in a meaningful match and trained with several professional
clubs.
Well it's happened again. Not even a full season back in top flight football and the "old dame"
Hertha has been embroiled in a soap opera of daytime TV proportions, where nobody ends up looking
good. Manager Markus Babbel and Sport Director Michael Preetz were entangled in a war of words
where one was trying to paint the other as a liar and claiming who did or did not say what,
when.
Everyone is doing it, so I thought we would too. Here is the OTWT starting 11 for 2011
- Goalkeeper: Joe Hart, Manchester City
- Left Back: Ashley Cole, Chelsea
- Center back: Vincent Kompany, Manchester City
- Center back: Nemanja Vidic, Manchester United
- Right Back: Gregory van der Wiel, Ajax
- Left side: Eden Hazard, Lille
- Central Midfielder: Javier Mascherano, Barcelona
- Central Midfielder: Xavi, Barcelona
- Right side:Mario Goetze, Borussia Dortmund
- Striker: Ronaldo, Real Madrid
- Striker: Lionel Messi, Barcelona
I know everyone does not agree with my starting 11, so let the trashing begin.
Bayern Munich are Autumn Champions. Barring a highly unlikely flurry of goals
for and against the right teams. More than the virtual trophy, Bayern will cherish the three-point
gap, they opened up at the top of the table, taking maximum advantage of the slip ups of both
Borussias.
The In The Stands goal of the week comes from Marseille winger Mathieu Valbuena after his screamer
against Borussia Dortmund sealed a 3-2 win for the French giants. Marseille came from 2-0 down to

thus earning himself the moniker 'Mr [.

The compendium of horrors first by Lukasz Fabianski and then Vito Mannone, his replacement
helped by a healthy dose of god awful defending allowed Olympiakos to romp home 3-1 in their second
leg against Arsenal. Unfortunately it was not enough for Greek club as Marseilles came back against
Borussia to defeat them 3-2 to secure second spot.

From almost out of the UEFA Champions League to topping Group E, it's been a crazy first
campaign for Chelsea manager Andres Villas-Boas.
Talks of crisis at Stamford Bridge seem to be dissipating after Chelsea routed Valencia 3-0 to

At some point today, someone is going to go home disappointed with these two teams level on points
in joint second place, and one point behind leader Bayer Leverkusen.

DerbysiegerBorussia Dormund 2-0 Schalke 04 (26:11:11)Yesterday, Nick Coppack went to see surprise package, Borussia
Mönchengladbach beat their near neighbours FC Köln to storm to the top of the Bundesliga (click
HERE for those photos). What could possibly beat that? How about being in a crowd of over 80,000, a
day later, at one of the biggest matches in world football, BVB v Schalke 04.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reserved special praise for midfielder Alex Song, who showed
tremendous dribbling ability to beat two Borussia Dortmund defenders en route to setting up Robin
van Persie's opening goal in Arsenal's massive 2-1 win.
The German champions took an impressive start at the Emirates in front of a strong traveling
support of seven thousand but after losing key midfielders Sven Bender and Mario Gotze in rapid
succession to first-half injuries, they looked exposed in the second half.
Wherever Arsenal finish in each competition this season, one thing that is almost certain is the
continuation of the attention paid to Robin Van Persie as supposedly the Gunners' main source of
success. Despite the Dutchman's colleagues performing equally as well in their own right, the solid
displays of other squad members are sometimes overlooked.

Match: Champions League Group Phase Away to the Arsenal
Result: 0-0
Standings after this 4th match
1.
The UEFA Champions League resumes tomorrow night as the fourth matchday of the group stage gets
underway, and there are several teams that could clinch a place in the round of 16 if results go
their way this week. It should be no surprise that the top three teams in Champions League
statistics in regards to goals scored are all in that bunch, in Barcelona (9), Real Madrid (8), and
Chelsea (8).

Our first trip to France since 2002 when we beat Auxerre 1-0. A similar scoreline tonight would
see Arsenal in the box seat in the group.
Marseilles are in the same type of form as Arsenal, lying 15th in Ligue 1 and struggling to get
back in touch with their last season's form. Their win over Borussia shows just what they can do
when playing well – our esteemed manager stating he was "surprised and impressed.

Champions League action resumes tonight with some very interesting match ups on card. However,
the match that has many people talking is the Bayern Munich v Manchester City fixture.
Both clubs are having a fantastic start to the season in their respective leagues and tonight's
match could stamp the arrival of the blues on the European front.

Hey everyone,
It's a big, big day for us. Though it feels like, until we get a few wins in a row, every game
will be a very big game.

into our opponents, the mighty Dortmund of Borussia.
Arsene Wenger's appeal against a two-match suspension has been rejected by Uefa and he will now
be banned from the dugout for the start of Arsenal's Champions League group stage campaign.
Wenger was originally given a one-game ban for the first leg of the Gunners' play-off round tie
against Udinese, following criticism of Swiss referee Massimo Busacca in the defeat to
Barcelona last season.

"LIVE: United's CL Group Draw" was originally published at The
Republik of Mancunia.
Despite the heatwave that has seemingly engulfed the whole of Italy, Arsenal
secured a place in the Champions League along with Benfica, Lyon and the winners
from Tuesday, Villarreal (seen above!) And the highly anticipated CL draw takes
place later today, where the 32 qualified teams allocated into eight groups of four teams.
The season gets more exciting tomorrow as the draw for the group stages of the Champions League
takes place in Monte Carlo.
Just a reminder of how it works there are four pots. Chelsea are in the first pot. We get a team
from each of the other pots. No one can draw a team from the same league.

Last week, Bayern Munich needed a last-second goal from Luiz Gustavo to avoid going winless
through the first two weeks of the season. This week, it took significantly less time for the
Bavarian giants to get on the board, and once they did, they never looked back.
