So Afonso Alves joins the departed list as Boro's record signing decided to follow the money to
Qatar and Al Sadd. Expectations were raised, even if only slightly, that the Brazilian may be the
one to spearhead Middlesbrough's Championship challenge when he remained a Boro player at the close
of the transfer window.
Boro have confirmed the loan signings of Sean St Ledger from Preston North End and Caleb Folan
from Hull City to strengthen the squad ahead of the promotion push.
St Ledger is a central defender who comes in to the squad as a replacment for Robert Huth.
Currently young Seb Hines is partnering David Wheater at the heart of the Boro defence so there is
a good chance of St Ledger working his way into the first team.

Jeremie Aliadiere came off the bench at the Riverside to score a second half brace which got
Boro back to winning ways. His two goals, a header and a neat finish into the corner of the net,
made the points safe for Boro against Roy Keane's struggling Ipswich Town.
