Highly rated Middlesbrough youngster Rhys Williams is at the center of a battle between Wales and
Australia for his long term International future. Williams, who has helped Burnley reach the
Championship play-offs during a successful loan spell at Turf Moor, has already played 10 times for
Wales' Under-21s, but the fact that he has yet to play a competitive game for the full National
side still makes him available for Australia.
Boro manager Gareth Southgate appears confident that deals will be reached that see both Mido
and Tuncay Sanli follow Stewy Downing out of the Middlesbrough exit door. Neither player travelled
with the squad to Scotland for Boro's 5-0 win over Dumbarton.

TURKEY 17 TUNCAY Away Shirt 2004 Small Size
NIKE £4.
Rhys Williams has returned to Middlesbrough after Burnley failed in their appeal to extend his loan
spell for the playoff period. The Boro youngster made 17 appearances in the Championship for
Burnley this season and can count his time at Turf Moor as a success.
We got a quick quote from Burnley fan and Editor of the Vital Burnley site, Phil Lea who
said:
Rhys has been very popular with the Clarets faithful and we were sorry that we couldn't keep him
for the play-offs challenge this month.
Results, once again, went the right way for Middlesbrough this weekend keeping our hopes of
survival alive. For weeks now we have needed help from other teams, losses to Arsenal and
Manchester United could have seen us cast adrift but the teams around us were not able to take
advantage of the situation leaving us with everything to play for with 3 games remaining.
News today is suggesting that Tuncay will be selected to give Sheffield United a test to their
defence.
Tuncay remains one of the most high profile players still on our books, with Southgate saying,
"I'm amazed" at the fact he's still here.
"We've told him all along that we would not stand in his way if the right offer came in,
but so far that hasn't happened.
The run down to the closure of the transfer window has seen Boro heavily involved in transfer
activity, sadly it is with news of imminent departures rather than squad additions.
Sky are reporting that Robert Huth and Tuncay Sanli are undergoing medicals ahead of a move to
Stoke City for a reported joint fee of around £11M.
Transfer talk is heating up ahead of the deadline this week.

Loan Watch - A look at the Boro youngsters out on loan
In light of our current plight and the very real threat that we may be playing Championship
football next season some websites have wasted no time in publishing transfer rumours linking Boro
players away from the Riverside.

Alves to Lisbon, Bates to Everton rumours fly as relegation looms
Whether it is club policy or whether they simply have not been able to strike deals with the
players, Middlesbrough continue to stall on signing Matthew Bates and Ross Turnbull to extended
deals.
I can see how leaving all contract negotiations until the end of the season may allow everyone
to concentrate on the task at hand but it is a risky game to play.
Leicester City are rumoured to be closing in on the free transfer signing of Middlesbrough
goalkeeper Ross Turnbull. Turnbull has turned down a new contract offer from Boro, it is rumoured
that Middlesbrough offered a basic salary much less than he was expecting to receive and that he is
now looking to find a new club.
Rumours are mounting regarding the future of want-away striker Afonso Alves.
Boro are believed to have already rejected a bid of £3million earlier this summer, and now if
rumours are to be believed, Boro have been subject to an undisclosed bid from Saudi outfit Al
Ahli.
Other clubs are mooted to show an interest, but it's Al Ahli that would be able to offer the
more lucrative terms, given his largely unsuccessful time on Teesside and other major clubs in
Europe reluctant to spend money on a player who could be past his best already.
So Afonso Alves joins the departed list as Boro's record signing decided to follow the money to
Qatar and Al Sadd. Expectations were raised, even if only slightly, that the Brazilian may be the
one to spearhead Middlesbrough's Championship challenge when he remained a Boro player at the close
of the transfer window.
Boro have confirmed the loan signings of Sean St Ledger from Preston North End and Caleb Folan
from Hull City to strengthen the squad ahead of the promotion push.
St Ledger is a central defender who comes in to the squad as a replacment for Robert Huth.
Currently young Seb Hines is partnering David Wheater at the heart of the Boro defence so there is
a good chance of St Ledger working his way into the first team.
Young defender Seb Hines has joined Championship side Derby County on a month long loan deal.

Seb Hines off to Derby for a month
Ok so things have gotten a bit mad over the last few days with Tottenham seemingly trying to nick
Downing on the cheap, being told to stick it where the sun doesn't shine, returning with a better
offer to find the same response and finally Stewy handing in a transfer request that was promptly
rejected by the club

Can Boro fans really blame Stewart Downing for wanting to leave?
The Daily Mail website has linked Boro with a January move for Newcastle flop Alan Smith. Where the
reporter gets his information from is anybody's guess but I just cannot see Gareth Southgate being
stupid enough to take Smith off Newcastle's hands.

Alan Smith?

Half time at Goodison Park and it all looked so promising, a David Wheater goal and a decent

Boro youngsters shine for
England
Didier Digard made a successful return from injury for the reserves tonight as Boro beat
Manchester City 2-0 at the Riverside.
Digard played just over an hour and looked sharp and comfortable, surely putting himself in
contention for the Arsenal game. It was young winger Adam Johnson who shone brightest for the
second string, scoring one and looking threatening throughout.
Boro fans could still be witness to new signings this summer, despite the arrival of Mark
Yeates, Leroy Lita and Danny Coyne, who've filled in at key positions that needed
strengthening.
The latest names in the mill are rumoured to be Marseille duo Elliot Grandin and Mamadou
Samassa, who'll both be available for fee's of less than £1million.
After the heartbreak of relegation; after a summer of uncertainty; after all the pessimism,
anger and frustration; after all of this, the run up to the Sheffield United game brought one thing
back. It brought back anticipation. It brought back that tingle of excitement. It brought back that
sensation of the hairs standing up on the back of your neck.
Middlesbrough's good early season form has seen them rewarded with two players in the Football
League's team of the week.
Jeremie Aliadiere came off the bench at the Riverside to score a second half brace which got
Boro back to winning ways. His two goals, a header and a neat finish into the corner of the net,
made the points safe for Boro against Roy Keane's struggling Ipswich Town.
Sky Sports are reporting that young Boro winger Graeme Owens is joining Championship side Blackpool
on an initial months loan deal.
