Stevenage's first month in League 2 has been pretty mixed, but overall I think it's safe to say
that we are going in the right direction. The opening day draw with Macclesfield was a bit of an
anti-climax after all the hype, but Boro have responded with some good performances that see them
sitting comfortably in 10th place.
Stevenage visit Cheltenham Town this weekend. The Robins, now managed by former Kidderminster
boss Mark Yates, will be looking forward to getting back to winning ways after a disappointing
defeat against Barnet last weekend. I've caught up with Mark from the Robins Nest Forum to have a
talk about Cheltenham's aims for the new season, what they remember from their days in the
Conference plus their thoughts on former Boro star Barry Hayles.
League leaders Torquay United are the visitors to Broadhall Way this Saturday. It will be
another stern test for Boro, who have found life difficult so far in League 2. As Graham Westley
has said previously, the team isn't far away from being a good side at this level, but we need to
start scoring some goals as well as cut out the silly mistakes at the back.
Stevenage have taken Billericay's young striker Danny Charge on a two week trial. Charge joins a
long list of strikers that have been on trial with the club during the summer, as Graham Westley
continues to explore the options available to him.
I've had a quick browse of the internet to see what this lad is about.
Middlesbrough-based consumer financial services organisation, Ramsdens, has signed four-month
sponsorship deal with English Championship soccer club Middlesbrough F.C. The largest family-owned
pawnbroker in the UK, Ramsdens has backed the club's unique shirt sponsorship initiative by signing
a four-month, six-figure deal, making it the club's biggest front of shirt sponsor this season.
Just a quick post as I don't get home until tomorrow. A more detailed report and some pictures
will be uploaded tomorrow evening.
Chris Holroyd's debut goal was enough to give Stevenage their first away win of the season. Boro
were solid at the back, dangerous going forward and totally deserved their victory.
Well somehow after yesterday's poor performance, Chelsea have come out smelling of roses after we
maintained a decent points lead over Arsenal and United after Arsenal lost at home to West Brom and
today United were held to a draw at the Reebok against Bolton.
Somehow we still have a three point lead at the top of the league!
Watford impress again
Last week I said it was time to stop treating the North Londoners like plucky underdogs; after
the 3-1 win over Middlesborough, when do we start treating them like contenders? To see off Boro
inside twenty minutes sends an awesome message out to the rest of the division.
After picking up our first away win on Saturday against Lincoln, Boro are back on the road
tomorrow evening when we make the trip to Edgar Street and Hereford. As usual I've spoken to a
supporter of the opposition ahead of the clash on Tuesday night. Take a look.
It's been a poor start to the season for you.
The Boro fans playing keep-ball from the Watford stewards was the highlight of our visit on
Saturday as we witnessed a 20-minute spell of the worst defending which handed the Hornets three
goals on a plate.
As we walked away from Vicarage Road at the full-time whistle, I couldn't help but smile when
one particular home fan thought that his team had completely outplayed Boro and that the only time
we had the ball was when the away end kept the match-ball for five minutes.
