Laurent Blanc is flavour of the month at the moment after winning the league with Bordeaux and
currently standing top of his Champions League group, which contains Juventus and Bayern
Munich.
Back in May, RoM looked at the reasons why Blanc should replace Sir Alex Ferguson, but Eric
Cantona wants him to be the next manager of France.

We continue to edge closer to United related news, but this was too difficult to pass up. When
the King speaks we have to listen:
"I think that Raymond Domenech is the worst coach in French football since Louis XVI. If it was
up to me, I'd put (Bordeaux coach) Laurent Blanc in charge of the France team," the former
Manchester United hero continued.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud admits he has no idea if Marouane Chamakh will sign a new
contract.
Chamakh's current deal expires at the end of the season and the Morocco international has been
offered terms to stay with the French club.
Arsenal, Sunderland and West Ham have all shown an interest in the 25-year-old in the past, while
Manchester United have recently been linked with a bid.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger could revive his bid for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh over Robin
van Persie's ankle injury.
Van Persie is upbeat over his setback, confident he'll be back in "four to six weeks", however
scans today will reveal the true extent of the ligament damage.
The Sun says fellow striker Nicklas Bendtner is already out until the New Year after groin surgery
and Wenger could be forced to spend in the January transfer window.

It seemed that every year you'd hear Paul Doyle on the Football Weekly podcast give his Ligue Un
summary with everyone dozing off as he concluded that Lyon were pulling away to win their next
inevitable title even though they'd long been jacked out of the Champions League.
That changed last year, with Bordeaux winning the league, and French football has been on a tear
since.

Derby games are always passionate affairs and they generate a lot of excitement
but the match itself tens to disappoint the viewers, mostly because the managers are always too
cautious and they prevent the players from giving their attacking best. The games between
Lyon and Marseille have not been exception to this rule in the past and no wonder
nobody expected too many goals when these sides met on Sunday, but we saw a remarkable match and no
less than 10 goals, five on each side.

Stade de Gerland, Lyon

Sunday evening it's back to work. But hopefully, it's not one of those usual Monday morning,
sloping, sluggish, I need a liter of coffee to get through the day, back to works, because aside
from the heart wrenching matches against Cesspool in the CL, Lyon have been afflicted with a
general malaise probably since week eight in the PSG match, and need this victory to put some pep
back in their step.

The fourth round of group stage matches took place this week and a number of teams booked their
places in the knockout stages. Although after this round of games there are no perfect sides left
in the competition.
Bordeaux dominated Bayern Munich for a second time in a fortnight. They beat the Germans 2-0
with goals from Gourcuff and Chamakh which puts them in the knockout stages.

Ligue 1 teams had an amazing week in the Champions League (not so much in the Europa) that somewhat
validated my prediction of French teams being real contenders this year. While Bordeaux won with
class and Lyon once again upset Liverpool in the same manner they did 2 weeks ago, Marseille
destroyed Zurich and are now in a position to make Real and Milan sweat.

3 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat for Bundesliga clubs in Europe this week. The good news is that
five out of six have it all in their own hands to progress to the next round. The odd club out is

Champions League View: Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC could get 10 points and still not
qualify.
An entertaining set of Champions League games threw up some unexpected results, great games and
the odd ninja (but not a very effective one). Almost all of the big names have a chance to reach
the knockout stages, even though the likes of Bayern and Liverpool have made it very, very
difficult for themselves.

Liverpool had to defeat Olympique Lyon away after losing 1-2 at home in the previous round. But
last night the English team only managed a 1-1 draw, and with 4 points it is now almost impossible

Bordeaux earned a 2-0 result at the Allianz Arena to cruise past Bayern Munich and ensure a place

What a great show the tifosi put on last night! Perhaps they couldn't
all contain their whistles when Ricky got hold of the ball, but they certainly
showed their cuori che sono grandi (big hearts) nevertheless. On the pitch, it's safe to
say that Los Blancos played strikingly better than the first leg, even without the sadly
missed Greaseano.
