This was, for me, the big one. If Indonesia lost to a rapidly improving Malaysia side then it
would have been Goodnight Vienna. Or Hanoi. Or Singapore.
The game started scrappily as both sides struggled to find any rhythym or fluidity and it was
the Malaysians that drew first blood with a nicely worked move finished off by the hugely talented
Norsharrul.
Despite over 5,000 tickets being made available to Malaysian fans for last night's opening group
match against Indonesia in Jakarta it's probably fair to say that not were snapped by fans eager to
make the short trip south of the equator just to be roundly abused.
A couple of dozen did front up in the visitors enclosure and they were soon id'd by Indonesian
fans on the terrace above and welcomed with a round of boos that soon cascaded round the
stadium.
Six months ago, Inter Milan were one of the most feared teams in Europe. With Jose Mourinho at
the helm, the Milan outfit swept aside all those before them picking up the Scudetto, the Coppa
Italia and the Champions League to celebrate an unprecedented treble and, in the process, becoming
the first Italian side in history to do so.
When the final whistle blew at Anfield Wednesday night, the air was deafened by the sound of a
chorus of boos. That was followed by some in The Kop singing Kenny Dalglish's name and cheeky
"Hodgson for England" chants. In what was definitely Liverpool's worst performance of the season,
the team crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Wolves and gave a lethargic performance that can be best
summed up by considering the following four statistics.
Under-fire Roy Hodgson has blasted Liverpool's supporters for not supporting the team after his
side suffered another humiliating defeat at the hands of Wolves.
Mick McCarthy's Wanderers heaped further misery on the Anfield club after Stephen Ward's goal
condemned them to their eighth defeat of the season.
