"An effigy of US President Barack Obama was burned over the weekend by members of the Conservative student association at St Andrews University.

As one of football premier characters, this is going to be Mario Balotelli's career. The Edenbridge Bonfire Society, a group comprised of bonfire enthusiasts, one would assume, had to decide upon a subject whose effigy would be worthy of a bonfire. Mario's behavioral issues and bathroom shenanigans took care of the rest of the process.

It doesn't take much to bring out the obsessive in many men of any age, and this is something that advertisers and hawkers have been aware of for a long time and acting upon this sort of impulse with greater and greater sophistication in recent years. Football supporters, of course, can be amongst the worst for obsessive behaviour, and one of the more obvious manifestations of this comes in the form of football programmes.

The real party, of course, was on Saturday. Brighton & Hove Albion marked their arrival at The Amex Community Stadium with a late, late win against Doncaster Rovers, but the celebrations continued this evening with a narrow win against Gillingham of League Two. After fourteen years waiting, though, could the new stadium possibly live up to expectations?

There has been, and will be, more significant wins, in a global sense, in this team's history. We have seen 2 U.S. Open Cups lifted, and we will see Supporters Shields and MLS Cups lifted in the future. The Sounders winning a competitive match in Mexico in CCL play would very well have more bigger-picture significance than yesterday's 3-2 win in a mid-season League match.

Don't believe the hype over yesterday's strikes. The lollipop ladies and nurses didn't cause this financial crisis so why are the government raiding their pensions? This article on New Statesman outlines exactly why these changes to the pensions are unjustified.
