I've been remiss in not posting this picture of HollyCornblog's Hop Trellis circa April
2009!
As you can see, she's done an awful lot of work (backbreaking work, I might add) to give these
hops a fighting chance at thriving.
I for one am quite interested to see how hops do under the Obama administration.

Saturday morning ... last morning before we go back to daylight savings time. I'm having some
smooth, dark coffee and catching up on the news of the world while the sun comes up here. Scary
times, as the economy's woes seem to be accelerating with no end in sight. Maddow had a great
explanation of the [.

Pat Summitt's Lady Vols gave her a solid, at-home victory over Georgia ... and her 1000th win last
night! She wanted to hit the milestone at home on the court named after her - and she did -
thanks to her "Baby Vols" - a team that includes 7 freshmen! How does she do it?

Yesterday President Barack Obama repealed the Mexico City Policy - the infamous gag rule that
pulled funding from health care providers who offered (or even just talked about) certain health
care options for women. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. Obama's Day Three ...
was a mixed bag, reminding me that change is a process [.

How refreshing to write a headline focused on the letter P and not have Sarah Palin come to mind
(except as an after thought, just now - like a toothache remembered). So these are heady,
miraculous times. The Hudson River miracle jet has been fished out of the water and Obama is
in DC and will [...

Fingers crossed here for another good NFL day for the bird teams. The Ravens I had with a
win. But the Cardinals? Wow. I just hope they didn't steal the Eagles'
mojo. (Nah ... an unworthy thought to be having this snowy NH Sunday.) If Ravens can
bring down Titans, certainly Eagles can bring down [.

There is actually women's soccer on TV this Sunday - amazing! On the national team side of
things, the Youth National Team is in Chile, where they play in the finals of their World Cup in a
game that is being televised live on ESPN2 this Sunday afternoon (4:30 ET). Yeah! Pia
has joined them [..

First off, get well wishes to HollyCornblog who is recovering from a bad ankle sprain sustained in
a nasty fall at work. Keep it iced and raised ... and, as we like to say to Willie (and to
Ruby - but with much less effect), "Heel!" [sic] Between HollyCornblog and Hope Solo,
things have been a [...

It really wasn't a contest at Dodger Stadium last night ... and wasn't one at Hofstra, either. The
Phillies clinched their sixth-ever World Series berth in just five games, with a 5-1 win over the
Dodgers, behind good offensive production and the strong arm of NLCS MVP Cole Hamels! I'd
love to see them face the [.

The USWNT beat Ireland 2-0 in the final game of their post-Olympic tour. Here's the write-up
and the quote sheet from US Soccer. Kate Markgraf scored the first goal of her international
career ... almost on Boltgirl's pace. The Bobcats had a tough day down at Amherst. (Don't
worry- you'll all bounce back!

So Rachel Maddow's new show premiered last night and while I didn't see the whole thing (had
a meeting) and didn't see Boltgirl there (not yet, that is), what I saw I liked a lot (not
surprisingly). Way to go Rachel! Ariana Huffington has written about Sarah Palin as the
Trojan Moose who distracts the electorate [.

It's my kind of Sunday! First, this is an excellent sharp retort from Boltgirl to Rudy's bull
about Obama's record. Truth will out (I hope). On the first full day of NFL action the Pats
pulled out a scary win - and it remains to be seen what Brady's status will be. He walked off
... but [...]

Call it change. Call it luck. Call it redemption. Call it bravery. Call it what you will - it's
gold and it's real and it stays! The USWNT defeated Brazil 1-0 yesterday in extra time after
putting on a gritty performance on the pitch on a wet, humid, Beijing night.

Here's Beulah's match report. I'm always so pleased when one or two things I noticed show up in
Beulah's write-up! I continue to be impressed with HAO's play - and was also very glad to see Mitts
playing more like her old self. Hope A-Rod gets her scoring started against New Zealand

... and the US is looking better. Here's Boltgirl's analysis of Wed's game ... 22nd minute
and too much boom ball, still. But overall better ... and Brandi sounds happier, too!
PS John Edwards? Oh my god ... the haircut really did reflect something significant
about his soul ... Sphere: Related ContentSHARETHIS.

John McCain made another Bush-worthy geography gaffe yesterday - this time on "Good Morning
America." Sorry, John, Iraq and Pakistan don't actually share a border. (As an aside, I've
always wished that some brave member of the press would ask Bush, during a press conference, to
point to Iraq on a map.
